  1. Read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and find out how horrible these boxed cereals are on our environment and economy not to mention our health. Great book!
  2. I used to carb cycle and on my high carb days I'd get a strong, fast heartbeat. Looking back I think it might have been a reaction to all the gluten I was eating.
  3. I've been using my kefir grains in canned coconut milk, I get the kind without any preservatives. It tastes pretty good!
  4. I intentionally glutened myself after a year and a half gluten free, just to see what would happen. Nothing really obvious. Except a kind of lingering malaise, no energy, kind of depressed for over a week now. I didn't link it to the gluten at first but now I think it was.
  5. I think about that too, except in our case the doctor says to keep doing it and thinks we're nuts if we stop! Sheesh, the world is upside down.
  6. I've heard the "Gluten Free for Dummies" is a helpful book. I think the author lives in my city too. Celiac.com of course is terrific. And this web site. A local support group might be really helpful too. And yes, I'd suggest you think about giving the diet a try. You might be surprised how good it makes you feel!
  7. I'm a little luke warm on the challenge idea. Some people have huge enormous reactions, some won't react at all after being gluten free. If you don't react you might get the idea you've misdiagnosed yourself despite the fact you've had your symptoms resolve on the diet. But actually you've healed enough and you're not one of those to get terribly sick...
  8. Dr. Fine has done a lot of research on this: Open Original Shared Link I think some of us, the ones that aren't super sensitive to gluten, won't have a full scale reaction to it immediately. Probably continued chronic exposure is going to set us right back to where we started from though. It is enough to me to know that gluten is opening up those...
  9. Also, people know your name so they say "Thanks Ursula" and then the word celiac is all over this forum. So on any given page the words "ursula and celiac" are going to turn up.
  10. Yeah, sounds like you need a new doctor. Having one talk over you and not listen is not good. Very not good. Try to get a referral from someone who really likes their doctor.
  11. It took a few months I think. It was so gradual I didn't even notice it until I realized I hadn't been using my eye drops! I still have incredibly dry skin though. :\ My ankylosing spondylitis is much better though. I remember being so sore and waking up at night feeling miserable. I'd have aches in most of my joints and tendons, muscles spasming...
  12. Jerry, I seem to recall a series of posts where you had a number of issues that pretty much went away when you stayed off the gluten. Now you're trying to back away from it. Sounds like a bad case of denial... There's a lot more of them out there, do a search on your user name and read a bit. You've been trying to duck this thing for months...
  13. But you don't usually get both hypo and hyper symptoms at the same time do you? Although I have heard of people who have both Graves and Hashi's at the same time. I can't quite visualize how that works. But regardless, some people will have contrary symptoms. For instance, I had Graves disease and I gained weight! People using get skinny with Graves...
  14. Like the stuff in a box of "Vital Wheat Gluten". It looks like... wheat flour.
  15. Just be aware, having been gluten free you're likely to have a negative biopsy. It can takes months and months and months for the damage to reappear. I know what you mean though, I am hoping my autoimmune diseases were/are caused by gluten because there's always that chance I won't develop any additional ones AND perhaps the ones I have now will get...
  16. I'm thinking maybe the restaurnat dining. Especially at a chinese restaurant, they put wheat (soy sauce) on everything. And then salads... if someone uses the wrong set of tongs or gets careless with crumbs. I wish you luck! You sound like a good Mom, you'll get to the bottom of this.
  17. Isn't it amazing how our bodies can speak to us so clearly, so compellingly, yet we don't trust them as much as some doctor who spend 11 minutes in medical school on the subject celiac disease, 20 years ago.
  18. Hmmm... that's a puzzler. Any chance you can get her off dairy for awhile too? I'd be suspicious of the 2.75 with those symptoms. Your doctor doesn't sound very good either, any chance you can replace him? But what you really want to do is get her tested for thyroid antibodies. That would tell you if there is something attacking her thyroid. ...
  19. What sort of stores are carrying this? Regular grocery stores? HF stores? I miss beer!
  20. I use the "view new posts" button at the top then I click on "Mark all posts read" when I'm done. Good luck!

    ARCHIVED Aneurysms?

Where are they located? Are you going to get a scan? My brother died of a one in the abdomen, the main artery that goes to the heart. His high blood pressure probably made it much worse. My doctor sent me for a scan when he heard about it. My Dad also had a bulging there, but he died from something else.
  22. Are you sure your vitamin levels are ok? Especially B vitamins? Eliminating meat makes me wonder about that. Do you get plenty of sunshine (vit. D)? Have you ever given up dairy to see how that works for you?
  23. That does sound ezcema, but ezcema is also something that can be caused by gluten. Does your skin peel after you've had an outbreak? Mine does. Also moisturizing seems to help my ezcema too. I don't really get it full blown any longer but I'll get the itching and peeling that used to come after the red oozing bumps. For some reason, I always get it in...
  24. Tim Gunn, definitely! He's such a knowledgeable person about many things. Good choice! Jesse James... the only one I know about was a bank robber in the (?) 1800's.
