ARCHIVED Distilled Water A Big No-no
Nancym replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Realty check! Open Original Shared Link You get most of your minerals from stuff you eat. Open Original Shared Link Always a good idea to do some checks on the internet of myths before you spread them. -
ARCHIVED Need Blood Thinner Substitute For Aspirin
Nancym replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tumeric is used in a concentrated pill (sometimes called Curcumin). Also Fish oils thin the blood too and prevent inflammation. I'm taking Krill Oil, which is slightly different from other types of Fish oil. There's been some problems found about aspirin and other NSAIDs and heart disease, so I try to keep off the NSAIDs. This doctor has some... -
ARCHIVED Strange Eye Movements And Twitches
Nancym replied to lonewolf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow! Yes. I saw an episode of Mystery Diagnosis where a toddler had this along with things that looked like seizures. He had the involuntary eye movements. Of course, no doctor believed them until they videotaped it. It could be gluten sensitivity affecting neurological functioning. -
ARCHIVED How Can I Beat My Carb Addiction?
Nancym replied to covsooze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found a lot of support here: Open Original Shared Link People who are dedicated to all kinds of "lower" carb diets. Lots of health information, recipes, support, medical info, etc. Good folks! -
ARCHIVED My 2 Yr Old Daughter Just Diagnosed Last Week With Celiac
Nancym replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can't help myself... I'm usually tolerant of gluttons, glutens though is another issue! But my brother likes to tease me and say I'm a gluten for punishment. -
This sounds like that neurological sleep problem, can't think of the name, but basically you fall asleep at abnormal times.

Chipotle just changed hands, used to be McDonald's owned it. But I wouldn't expect them to change policies quite that quickly.

I think all beds have their drawbacks! I have used an air type mattress. It had some drawbacks. There is foam around the sides that doesn't really mesh with the rather small internal air mattress and it is uncomfortable if you don't sleep squarely in the center of your mattress. In my Queen bed, I found it annoying. Water beds tend to be a pain to...

ARCHIVED Why Am I Gaining Weight? Soooo Confused
Nancym replied to deena647's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yup, you got it right. The gluten-free replacements for gluten-containing food usually have a LOT more calories and less fiber. I noticed the bread I had was 120 calories per slice whereas the gluten containing bread I usually bought was 40 calories per slice. If you stick to a diet of meat, veggies and fruit and limit the starchy/sugary stuff your... -
It sounds like sleep apnea, which can be deadly. Go see your doctor and insist on getting evaluated.

ARCHIVED Untreated Celiac And Mini-strokes
Nancym replied to elye's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Brain Talk had a lot of information about neurological effects of celiac disease. Unfortunately, they're down and have been for a month. There's a doctor with a name I couldn't begin to spell or pronounce, starts with an H who is doing a lot of research in this area. I think he isn't in America however. Best wishes to you! The brain is an amazing thing... -
I think the book "Dangerous Grains" does a pretty good job of explaining it. Your body treats gluten like a pathogen and creates antibodies to it. What happens has to do with things like causing intestinal permeability which lets immune antibodies and other things "leak" out of your gut and it can trigger autoimmune diseases that can attack any organ (I...

ARCHIVED Spelt
Nancym replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Reading anything controversial you really should be checking for more than one source. I don't know about you all, but when I read up on gluten sensitivity I was reading everything I could get my hands on. Some of it controversial, some of it not. And in Wikipedia you can hit the "discussion" link and see what things are being argued over. For instance... -
ARCHIVED Spelt
Nancym replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I suppose we use all information at our own risk. Last I checked even my doctor didn't offer any guarantees of accuracy. -
ARCHIVED Spelt
Nancym replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
On the other hand, Wikipedia is fact checked by everyone who uses Wikipedia and things that are inaccurate are usually brought to light very quickly. Its sort of like instant peer review. Open Original Shared Link Here's a BBC article about it: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Is This Chronic Fatigue
Nancym replied to sore joints's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just wanted to add that lots of autoimmune conditions have fatigue and joint pain as a major component. Eye problems too. Write down every little odd symptom you have and give it to your doctor. For me it was fatigue, feeling cold, sleeping a lot, eye pain and visual disturbances, joint/muscle/tendon pain, and some other stuff. My doctor sent me to... -
ARCHIVED Nephew Has Suspicious Symptoms
Nancym replied to carrielynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Sand-like Or Grainy Stools
Nancym replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED Weird Poop! What Gives?
Nancym replied to Lymetoo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had weird poops too after my colonoscopy. They've never really been restored to how they were before. It freaks me out a bit. -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intol Exaggerated After "quitting" Gluten?
Nancym replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not sure why the thought is that lactose intolerance goes away. You actually need an enzyme to break down lactose which generally speaking, lots of adults don't make after they're weaned. -
Actually, I'd probably call that "carb flu". It's a well known symptom of switching to a low carb diet. Your body has to adjust to burning fats and using ketones versus running off of glucose. It takes about 2 weeks to adapt.

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
Nancym replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't have a thyroid any longer, had RAI many years ago. No, I went the route of trying some Armour thyroid, it made me feel awful. I had hyper and hypo symptoms at the same time. I was a wee bit low on free T3. But since I've been off gluten and dairy I don't have those hypo symptoms at all and I got rid of the armour and just take the synth T4.... -
ARCHIVED Really Bad Joint Pain...
Nancym replied to Elizabeth-Elindel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are all kinds of autoimmune arthritises that flare up. Getting evaluated by a good rhumatoligist is a good idea. I found out I have Akylosing Spondylitis and I'm on a med to treat that. It has helped a lot. -
ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
Nancym replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does anyone else get hypthyroid type of symptoms from glutening? I felt hypothyroid for a long, long time. Cold, skimpy eye-brows, needing lots of sleep, brainfog, forgetfulness, but since being gluten-free and now dairy free for almost a year those have gone away. Just curious because I run into a lot of women with these same symptoms yet normal thyroid...
