ARCHIVED A Question For The Blood Test Experts Regarding Rheumatoid Factor
KCG91 replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
HavaneseMom - if it makes you feel any better I once posted a question about iron and ferritin saturation levels that were '-3' and '-3%' and how it was possible for me to have -3% saturation. Turns out the '-' was just to signify that they were below the normal ranges... -
ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
KCG91 replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
greenbeanie I think I'll stick to three monthly bloods too (she says, having just had what feels like a bucketful of blood taken this morning!) along with a large dose of patience and just keep doing my best for the next year. I found out that my iron levels are back to normal (they were super low six months ago) without the help of any supplements which... -
This 'Juice Plus+' 'lifestyle change' thing keeps popping up on my Facebook feed (well, it did, I've blocked it all now). It's another fad - ÂŁ32 a month for a load of milkshake powder and 'dietary advice and meal plans' from people who have no more nutritional/dietary knowledge than I do - so the advice goes as far as 'stop eating junk'. The best bit is ...

ARCHIVED Pityrosporum Folliculitis/acne
KCG91 replied to moosemalibu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Congratulations on getting clear Seems like you've had a lot of hard work pay off since February, well done. I never did go to my GP about it yet (chicken...) but I've just registered with a lovely new GP today so I think I will ask her (I have weird acne just on one side of my face at the moment). Did you ever find that it came and went? Did the ketoconazole...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
KCG91 replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK, it sounds as though it isn't that unusual then. I also still eat certified oats (I never realised that I was meant to quit for six months) - I wonder if this could be the cause. I'm only home for two months, then I have six weeks in Kenya (I've been before I was diagnosed but even so it's going to be an interesting time!) and then hopefully I'll be able... -
ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
KCG91 replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for your reply If you don't mind my asking, is your household completely gluten-free? Mine isn't and I'm wondering if that may be the problem. I've just registered with a lovely new doctor who is re-running all my tests to double check there's nothing there which will give me a bit more peace of mind on that front. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy And Diagnosis. Why Or Why Not?
KCG91 replied to user001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just reporting back on my experience - I saw a new GP today, having moved back home, and explained my situation re. not having a biopsy. She took one look at my ttg IgA levels for September and January and said that I was absolutely right to refuse a challenge and biopsy at four months gluten-free. She's re-running a load of tests (coeliac, iron, bone density... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Servers Who Don't Think Celiac Is Real
KCG91 replied to ChelseaS's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That particular waiter, I would have walked out (or not eaten while everyone else did) and followed up with a letter or email to the manager afterwards. Walking out or not eating is not ideal, it's awkward (and hungry!) but it would make a point. I try to email the place in advance and explain that I am really looking forward to eating there but that I... -
Just noticed posts on Oxford and Bath on this blog: Open Original Shared Link Might be helpful!

I'm just off the phone with my nurse about blood tests I had done May 20th, seven months after going gluten free. I haven't seen the printout yet but she said the ttg IgA is now at 15, with negative being either <7 or <10 (can't remember their ranges off the top of my head). At diagnosis in September it was at 128, in January it was 22. So why...

Aah you're welcome that sounds like an awesome week. I want a motorhome and a lab! I'm glad you find it useful. It's a hidden gem, never comes up in searches for some reason. All those places are brilliant I love James Herriot and Harry Potter, she has good taste I love Oxford and Bath too, I spent two months working there last summer. I wasn't diagnosed...

ARCHIVED How Do You Describe Celiac Disease When People Ask You "what's That?"
KCG91 replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I say that I have an autoimmune disorder which means that when I eat even a little gluten my immune system attacks and destroys the lining of the intestines, but I'm fine when I don't eat it. When people ask what gluten is I explain that it's a protein and when they ask what it's in I just say oh it's found in wheat, barley, rye and 'ordinary' oats but really... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy And Diagnosis. Why Or Why Not?
KCG91 replied to user001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Same here - I saw a gastro after three months gluten-free (and stonking high initial blood test results) and he said that if he was a betting man he'd put money on my having coeliac. He wanted me to do a two week challenge prior to the endoscopy and wasn't interested in diagnosing it any other way than that (eg. blood tests, reaction to gluten-free diet etc... -
Glad you had a good trip Cristiana I've only just seen this post but cyclinglady, this is a good UK forum for finding places to eat etc Open Original Shared Link Labelling laws here are pretty good and you'll usually find something in supermarkets or restaurants. I've had to get creative a few times but I've never gone without yet. Where are you visiting...

ARCHIVED Exercise And Emotional Problems
KCG91 replied to aidan-802's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Aidan, There are plenty of people on here who know a lot more about depression, anxiety and compulsion than I do so I really hope one of them chimes in with some help for you. All I can say is that I believe coeliac is linked to anxiety and depression, so perhaps if you do have it and you do treat it with the gluten free diet these issues in themselves...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED How To Approach Dating?
KCG91 replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There was a really good thread about this a few months ago that would be worth digging out: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/106154-dating-thoughts-and-profile-help/ For what it's worth, when I was 17 (I'm 22 now) I started seeing a guy in his early 20s who had coeliac, which was the first time I'd heard of it. The first couple of dates we just went... -
Can you get a top loading food processor that slices veggies when you drop them in through a spout at the top?(sorry if that's already been suggested - you guys have different names for kitchen bits!) My boyfriend's one does that and it works surprisingly well. Having survived three years at uni with just a hand held stick blender I am so, so sadly excited...

If you have a smartphone save the 'Safe' and 'Unsafe' lists to your homescreen - makes things much easier! I don't know which country you're in but definitely read up on their labelling laws.

Haha! Yeah just after I got diagnosed I spent three months resting to recover. During this period my uncle admitted he was kind of intimidated about what I'd be like when I was 'more energetic'. I'm just grateful to have a body that works pretty well now and enjoy using it I'll report back. I've had a few crazy weeks recently - I'm about to move home...

Thank you for the replies, guys. It's nice to have somewhere where 'oh no, my fingers hurts!' doesn't get totally side eyed It's all still sore so I think I will get it checked. I also wondered about carpal tunnel syndrome as I do a lot of pole fitness, yoga, aerial acrobatics which puts stress on my wrist (but I can't spot a specific injury so hey who knows...

ARCHIVED Odd Findings In Toilet (Help?! - Warning, Gross)
KCG91 replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Glad it helped you! Mine cleared up very quickly after going gluten-free so I'm afraid that's as much as I can help let me know what the Dr says though, I'd be interested to hear (God that sounds weird/gross, haha!) -
On and off over the years my right index finger has been a bit painful in the 'top' joint (nearest the nail). Over the last few months I've noticed it 'spreading' to the other joints in that finger and now into my wrist and middle finger. My wrist is just achy but the finger joints are a throbbing pain at times and a little stiff but not really hot or swollen...

You can be disqualified from a job for symptoms of a digestive problem?! Well, I hope the powers that be never get the runs... Sort of along the lines of what the others were saying, we have a family friend who emigrated permanently to Australia from the UK despite being diagnosed with MS (As I understand it that would usually get you barred). He did...

ARCHIVED Shortness Of Breath

Have you been tested for anaemia? I believe that can be a symptom. I think I breathe easier now mine has been treated.
