ARCHIVED IM SO SCARED
cristiana replied to Micheal123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Michael, well done for booking those tests. I can only speak for celiac disease but if you have read other posts on this forum about stress you will see that anxiety and depression are often very common before diagnosis. I have never been exactly laid back but prior to my diagnosis I was experiencing terrible out of the blue anxiety - so bad I didn... -
ARCHIVED IM SO SCARED
cristiana replied to Micheal123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Michael. I was silly. I went through stretches of having bad stomach pain and diarrhea - usually at times of high stress - and because IBS was so talked about I assumed (always dangerous!) that was what it was without ever checking with my doctor. Things got a lot better for a while - not sure why. Then they got a lot worse - hence I was finally... -
ARCHIVED IM SO SCARED
cristiana replied to Micheal123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Michael and Welcome! It sounds like you are doing absolutely the right thing. Just to reassure you that prior to my diagnosis I too had bleeding - mine was caused by such bad diarrhea I had fissures. Prior to that probably since my teens I had had episodes of what I would call 'nervous stomach' from time to time and other odd symptoms but it... -
ARCHIVED Celiac - Not yet diagnosed but feel like I'm dying.
cristiana replied to Dylan C's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Dylan I just wanted to join SLLRunner in welcoming you to the forum and yes, do ask to be tested for Celiac and Chrons. My nutritionalist told me that celiac disease is a great mimicker of many illnesses which I think must make a doctor's job all the harder when it comes to diagnosis. For many of us it took us a long time to get a diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED tightness in throat after eating gluten?
cristiana replied to 1398-Days's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello 1398_Days! Sounds like an allergy to me - although I would have thought if it were gluten exposure it would gradually reduce rather than keep coming back??? Of course, there are a lot of seasonal allergens out there at the moment if you are in the Northern hemisphere. If you are at all concerned I would raise it with your doctor... -
ARCHIVED Anxiously waiting
cristiana replied to Kal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the Forum, Kal. I think we have quite a few Australian coeliacs on board here so hopefully someone will be able to chime in about how long it will take for your endoscopy. I'm in Britain and here it depends greatly where you live in the country - it can take many, many weeks, so some people go private if they are feeling very poorly... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Night Vision
cristiana replied to PCB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi - think I remember 'speaking' to you before but can't find the post! Thanks for the update. I had painful headaches which got worse and worse as I went into my twenties. They became auras - kind of silver grey paisley pattern - without pain just before I had my first child, at a time when I started to experience hypnopompic hallucinations ( seeing repeat...- 50 replies

A good diet for avoiding type 2 diabetes
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks so much, gluten-free, in my hypchondriacal panic I saw that website! It is good to have an endorsement from a celiac. I remember seeing quite a few reassuring stories in it along the lines that you describe. Funny isn't as because I now feel far less inclined to eat large amounts of carbohydrate now I have cut back a bit. It seems the more... -
ARCHIVED Newly diagnosed and totally overwhelmed
cristiana replied to akohlman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is overwhelming at first but step by step you will begin to find food you like - new naturally gluten free 'clean' food you have never tried before, or gluten free substitutes that taste almost as good or just as good as the food you miss. Someone told me one just get used to gluten free bread in the end. But there are some on the market that... -
ARCHIVED UK: gluten-free and 'Belonging' - Morrison's latest advert

I am very impressed by Morrison's Supermarket and their Free From Range. This lovely advert has just appeared. Dedicated to all who have gone to a party and not been able to eat much or indeed anything. Open Original Shared Link -
A good diet for avoiding type 2 diabetes
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks! When I get a mo. I shall do some reading. Anything to get rid of these highs and lows. I must say a friend of mine who has done paleo is positively glowing now. -
A good diet for avoiding type 2 diabetes
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you both so much for your replies. I like the sound of what's on the menu, cyclinglady! I think I have definitely been straying down the cake aisle too often so will look out for more protein, GFinDC. Readjusting to fewer carbs is making me feel a bit weird - and from what I read this might be causing the thirst which thankfully is much better... -
ARCHIVED Blood results - odd
cristiana replied to Kyz1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kyz My blood ferritin was the same as yours. I was put on heavy duty stuff by the doctor but it hurt so bad, I got terrible diarrhea (mind you, I was still an undiagnosed celiac at the time) and I won't tell you what other horrid symptoms. Once I was diagnosed another GP put me on ferrous gluconate which you can get over the counter. She told me... -
Hi everyone. There is a lot in the press here in the UK about prediabetes and diabetes. I am an apple shape, as opposed to a pear, which I gather puts me more at risk. I have a lot of relatives with types 1 and 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed with celiac disease three years ago and the diet has been going so well that I am now putting on weight - I realise...

ARCHIVED Rectal bleeding and abdominal pain
cristiana replied to KatieKing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there Katie I had both bleeding and belly button pain. Bleeding was due to fissures, because just before diagnosis I had terrible diarrhea and I think just got very sore. Re: pain near belly button, I developed an umbilical hernia with my second pregnancy but didn't even notice it was there until I had burning pain there, I think when my little boy... -
ARCHIVED Could this be anything other than celiac.
cristiana replied to Kyz1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I just wanted to say that your story reads so like mine symptom-wise in many ways, except I felt like someone was sitting on my shoulders, not my chest - most odd! My readings were 100 plus too. I also suspected they would find no damage and then I would be none the wiser. A good GI will take lots of samples. Let us know how you get on. -
ARCHIVED Can someone explain how just a crumb can cause such a huge impact?
cristiana replied to SueMD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Should I test?
cristiana replied to SueMD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sue I'm in the UK, land of the Coeliacs with an 'o'! A friend of mine did not get a positive blood test but had an edoscopy done privately. It cost about £800 about two years ago. She did not have coeliac disease in the end but was diagnosed with non-coeliac gluten intolerance. She was just glad to have the peace of mind that nothing had been ... -
Hi Richie By the sounds of it you could have gluten sneaking in somewhere, or maybe blood sugar issues, or just plain anxiety, but it would be good to know for sure so you know what to do next. I think maybe the best course of action would be to see your GP and tell him/her all your symptoms. I dread seeing my own GP because as lovely as she...

I think, if all this is caused by glutening, it could be that it takes a while to work its way out of your system. I should explain about what I said about organic broccoli. I don't have a problem with organic food, in fact, I buy organic milk and carrots all the time, but I don't want to try organic broccoli in case it is the broccoli that is the...

Hi Richard Glad you are feeling better! Sorry - DX is an abbreviation for diagnosis. Thanks so much for the info about MSG, broccoli and IBS. Like you say, there is v. little bad press about broccoli. My aunt, who is a farmer's wife, put forward another theory that it might not have been the broccoli itself but rather some insecticide...
-
Hi Richie I've put the above in quotes as you have described in the first and second sentence how I felt six months prior to my DX. In my own case, in the end I concluded it was anxiety after consulting Dr Google! It was such an alien feeling to me, I couldn't even think what it was, particularly as life was pretty good at the time. Anxiety...

ARCHIVED Terrible pains in my stomach
cristiana replied to Moff's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A pleasure, Moff. It sounds like you are in good hands - it took several weeks for my pain to settle but while you are waiting for your other results if you try avoiding oats and milk that should help initially. By the way you are spelling coeliac (i.e. with an 'o') I am thinking you may be in the UK. If so I would think of joining Coeliac UK if you... -
ARCHIVED Terrible pains in my stomach
cristiana replied to Moff's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Moff and welcome to the forum. I wonder if you are eating oats? In the UK it is often recommended that newly diagnosed coeliacs keep off all oatmeal for about six months to give a badly damaged gut time to heal. Then oats can be gradually reintroduced, but remember, only gluten free ones known as pure oats (oats are naturally gluten free but...
