ARCHIVED Recovery
jerseyangel replied to Ash82's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi and welcome to the board! It's very common for healing to be uneven at the beginning. This is the point where we're becoming familiar with the diet, making sure our kitchens are gluten-free, and going through our personal care products, meds and vitamins. Sometimes the problem is getting some gluten by mistake--happens to everyone at first! Also... -
ARCHIVED Night Terrors/fear/paraoid
jerseyangel replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is how it is for me--and while I'm awake, I'm obsessing about one thing after the other and thinking about the worst case senerio of everything. That's how I know I've been glutened, and it's not something else--the overwhelming anxiety. I hate that! -

jerseyangel replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Judy --I'm only about 12 hours late , but I'm so-o-o happy that things went so well yesterday. I really had a feeling that this doctor was going to step in and get you back on the track to healing this thing once and for all. It sounds like a good plan! I was thinking about you last night, but was afraid if I called, you'd be asleep, tired from the... -

Yea, he is, too! He's an auto tech and has the option of going in on a day off and getting in some extra work (he's paid by the job) That sucks that you have to take the vacation time and only get 12 hours for a week's pay. Get some rest now -
ARCHIVED Bloated Again!
jerseyangel replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't do a lot of fruit, myself. I eat a banana in the morning, and sometimes some blueberries. If I try to have any more fruit in the afternoon, it causes cramping, bloating and sometimes warrents a bathroom visit. -

Floridian! I've been wondering where you've been I'm very happy to hear that you're doing better mood-wise. Congrats on going out to dinner--I'm usually too scared to do that. I've eaten at Friday's twice since my diagnosis--both times, everything was ok, but still...Gosh, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't eat potatoes--but good that you found the... -
ARCHIVED Newbie With A Question...
jerseyangel replied to jukie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another reason is that a lot of doctors think that the gluten-free diet is impossibly hard and therefore, won't even suggest it. Clueless -
ARCHIVED My Dog Is Celiac!
jerseyangel replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow Susan, that's really something! So glad she's gotten some relief. It's so hard to watch a pet go through a rough time and not know how to help. I'll bet she's so grateful to her mommy for figuring it out -

ARCHIVED Did This Happen To You..
jerseyangel replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've not had the desire to eat gluten since I found out it was the cause of my illness. By the time I found out what was wrong with me, I would have done anything to feel better! After a year, that still holds true. I must have put up a mental block or something, because I don't even think about it. Like Elonwy, I still enjoy the smell of freshly baked... -

ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
jerseyangel replied to Kris Fisher's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Bully4You--thanks for the tip on the walnut butter, it sounds good. I love walnuts--probably moreso than almonds! Yes, I'm grain free. I do feel better this way. I have tried to incorporate rice and corn a few times, but the GI symptoms come right back. I'm used to eating this way now, so it's not a big deal. -

Oh Judy--ouch! on dropping the book on your foot The doctor will understand, and just attribute the brusing to that. I'm thinking good thoughts--and saying a prayer for this morning. I'm so glad that you are getting in to see this doctor--I wish you didn't have to go alone, though. Give yourself plenty of time to get there, walk to office, etc. Remember... -
ARCHIVED Semi Productive Doctocter Conversation
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was wondering the same thing about your "check up" done over the phone through your girlfriend?? I had a similar situation as Ravenwood with my then-21 year old who was still living here at the time. The woman at the doctor's office said that due to privacy laws, she could not discuss any specifics with me. I'm also afraid that if you try ice cream... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel--I told him I have a friend in Calif. who got a Rx from her doctor and had it mixed at a compounding pharmacy. (He asked me) He said that the laws could be different there, that he couldn't prescribe it because it wasn't approved by the FDA for use here. I didn't know it was approved for compounding, though--darn! If it's not too much trouble,... -
ARCHIVED Larabar
jerseyangel replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nini--I really liked the ginger ones!! And the banana cookie ones--but I found I react to them--but it's the dried fruit, not gluten. From a gluten standpoint, they are safe. -
ARCHIVED I Need A Good Recipe
jerseyangel replied to May9's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love zucchini and onions. Just slice 3 or 4 zucchinis and an onion. Saute them in a skillet with olive oil, salt and pepper. This is good with grated cheese (Locatelli Romano) on top, if you eat cheese. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My Allergist just called me back! He is familiar with Ketotifen, he says that it's used for asthma primarily. I told him why I wanted to try it, and he said that although he didn't know if it would help me regarding my damaged intestine/food intolerance, it was a safe drug and it wouldn't hurt for me to try it. Now the bad news--under state law, he can... -
ARCHIVED Old Friend Said We Can't Come Over
jerseyangel replied to mart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so very sorry that you were hurt like that. You are not the one who should doubt herself and feel like an outsider--your former friend should take a good long look at herself in the mirror! Of course you'll make new friends--tomorrow's another day Keep on doing what's best for you and your kids, the rest will fall into place. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something

Hi Andrea I only tried probiotics once. I used Culturelle. By the fifth day, I was so nauseous I had to run out of a store because I thought I was going to be sick right there! I did a little digging, and learned that people who were sensitive to lactose may be affected. So I stopped taking it, and am frankly afraid to try probiotics again. I know... -
ARCHIVED So What Do You Do When Products "may Contain Traces" Of Wheat?
jerseyangel replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is all very frusterating Personally, I avoid products that say may contain traces...I do, however, use a few products that are made on shared lines. This is an area where some may get a reaction, but not others. For instance, I eat Lay's Natural Ruffles all the time. Others can't tolerate Lay's products made on shared lines. I get reactions from...
