  1. Rachel--2 things, Probably in your case, the avocado is just too much. If the fruit was ok before, and all that's different is the avocado, then you most likely have your answer. About antihistimines--you know I have had stomach problems (undiagnosed Celiac) for 20 years, since the c-section birth of my son. Anyway, the doctors were stuck on the diagnosis...
  2. How much fruit are you eating? I can't eat very much fruit at all. I have a banana in the morning, which sits well. But if I try and have another piece of fruit in the afternoon, about a half hour later, I start to get some cramping and have to use the bathroom. I've tried different kinds of fruit, too. About the only one that I can get away with is...
  3. I don't want to discourage anyone from reading the book--there's a lot of good info in there *but* there are also some inaccuracies. One example, she lists one of the drugs I use daily as "not gluten free". I called the company that makes it, and was assured that it was indeed gluten-free--the starch was from potato! Two books that I would recommend...
  4. OT=off topic.
  5. Hi Mickey--Good to hear your dad is feeling better! I was wondering how you all were doing About the only cold cereals in the regular grocery store that are gluten-free are Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles! May not be the thing for dad, though! Regular Rice Krispys have malt in them, as do many cereals. Cream of Rice is very good. You can fix it...
  6. Rachel--I could not do the rice milk--homemade or store bought. Rice, and all the other grains that I've tried give me D very soon after eating. The milk (I've only used Pacific) goes thru me even quicker . I think that's because it's so concentrated. I can't remember what your grain symptoms are, but if you are sensitive to rice, I would think that...
  7. Armetta--So glad that you enjoyed it! The next time I make these, I will use the broth--I thought of that only after I made them.
  8. Vincent posted this recently from Friendly's-- Open Original Shared Link
  9. Hi Rachel Yes, I believe that sweet potatoes, yams, and winter squashes are all great substitutes for white potatoes. Avocado is a good food, I don't know if that's considered "starchy", but I also don't think it matters I've been trying to incorporate more of these foods into my diet--I just had a sweet potato with my lunch! They're better for us...
  10. Elizabeth--That recipe looks great--I'm going to try it! Thanks
  11. I agree with Ursula. Some of us can't tolerate starches, and to make them the bulk of your diet is not a good idea. Since you are not feeling any better eating this way, I also suggest clean meats and poultry, cooked veggies, applesauce, sweet potatoes, olive oil. Try those for a week or 2 and see if there is any improvement. This way of eating gives...
  12. I have never liked mayo. Most of the time, I ate sandwiches dry, but depending on the filling, a slice of tomato is good. My mil has always spread a thin layer of butter on both slices of bread before making a sandwich. Cranberry sauce on a turkey sandwich is also delicious.
  13. Betty--When I was still eating grains, I liked The Gluten Free Pantry Dairy Free Sandwich Bread. I mixed it up in my stand mixer, and baked it in the oven--very easy, and good! www.gluten free.com/
  14. Lister--Don't confuse a rotation/elimination type diet with not enough food. You can eat until you are full--you just eliminate certain foods on certain days. I did it for months, and was never hungry, and believe me--I actually gained weight in the last 6 months (In my case this is not a good thing!) It's not a quick process, but well worth it if you...
  15. Hi Armetta--Well, I tried the ham and scalloped potatoes last night and it was really good! My non gluten-free husband liked it, too. It is not exactly the same as it would be if milk was used and a couple of handfuls of cheese would have been even better, but for dairy, soy, corn, grain, and gluten-free--I have to say it was tasty. Put 2 tbsp. potato...
  16. Hi Chloe--Spree is gluten-free! I did a search for you, and found it on a Nestle gluten-free list. Enjoy!
  17. Hi everyone! I was just catching up here. Welcome Rinne Congrats on getting through the whole thread! Hi Floridian--I was happy to hear about your dinner--that was great that you were able to finish the whole thing! The food sounded good, too--I love meatloaf I wanted to tell you that I do much better with "clean" chicken from Whole Foods...
  18. I was wondering about that, myself.....
  19. Oh, ok--I assumed that he saw the folds via endoscopy. Well, all the more reason, if you do suspect an ulcer, to talk to the doctor about it
  20. Because a ulcer is basicaly a sore on the lining of your stomach, eating will make it feel better while the food is in the stomach because the acid is diluted somewhat by the food. That's why an ulcer feels worse when the stomach is empty. Your doctor did an endo, right? If you had an ulcer starting then, he would have seen it, as the scope goes through...
  21. Lister--I know you don't have a lot of money to spend right now, but you have indicated that this doctor will see you between appts, and sometimes for a smaller than normal fee. Could you make a list of the things that are bothering you the most--the things that you've been posting about--and call and ask if the doctor can see you? Have the list ready,...
  22. That would be great! Keeping gluten-free is easy--it's that CC that gets me I hope it sails through the trials, and is deemed effective. Thanks Claire and Peter for this good news
  23. I don't have a lot of recipes, either. It's tough when we have to avoid so many ingredients. Most of our meals are the typical meat, potato, veggie, salad type of thing. Tonight, for the first time, I'm trying ham and scalloped potatoes using Vance's--if it turns out well, I'll post how I did it tomorrow. You already have the chicolate chip cookie recipe...
  24. I was wondering how that all worked out for you--I'm glad that common sense prevailed! That checker guy rocks Hope the concert was good.
  25. At the risk of sounding like a broken record--I'd bet that when you do go off gluten completely again, your levels will improve
