ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow Rachel--I have to hand it to you for sticking with all of that and figuring out what the culprit was! I would have been too scared to continue--I have a terrible fear of an allergic reaction. I actually had the full compliment of skin allergy tests just to put my mind at ease about it. Hopefully now you can clear all of it out of your system and really... -
ARCHIVED Ok, I Gotta Ask This...
jerseyangel replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never looked sick, although I almost never felt well. In the year before I was finally diagnosed (last year), I began to lose weight, was terribly pale, had bruises all over my arms, and my hair was thinning to the point where you could see my scalp in a few places. -
ARCHIVED Other Things To Be Careful About
jerseyangel replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You're not dumb Lisa--it's so easy to put something in the fridge, and before you know it, months have gone by! It happens to me more times than I care to admit. Not like we have nothing else to think about The trick is to remember to check the dates if you can't remember the last time you used something. Hope you feel better fast! -
ARCHIVED Larabars?
jerseyangel replied to gabrielle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never tried the Cashew Cookie flavor, but I like the Pecan Pie, and the Ginger one. -
ARCHIVED Is Kissing Gluten Free?
jerseyangel replied to Katie O'Rourke's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My husband has a beard and mustache--he's very neat, and it's never been a problem -
ARCHIVED How Many Of Us Are Df, gluten-free, Sf, Ef, Cf, Etc. ?
jerseyangel replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been working for the last 6 months trying to find out what I'm intolerant to (other than gluten). The results as of this minute , are in my signature. Where is says rice, that is all grains that I used to eat. This seems to be working well for me. -
ARCHIVED Tylenol?
jerseyangel replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I posted the gluten-free list from McNeil, you can find it here--post #6 Open Original Shared Link Note the the Rapid Release is *not* gluten-free. -

Mine did this, too. I was also severly anemic (hemiglobin-8). After 4-6 months on the gluten-free diet, my hair stopped falling out and at 6 months my hemi. rose to 14.5. Now, after a year, my hair has completely filled back in and is very healthy looking.

ARCHIVED I Think My Wife Was Glutened
jerseyangel replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They sound exactly like gluten symptoms to me, too. I can totally relate to the feeling of having to be near a bathroom--just in case. It's not exactaly urgent D, but there is that constant underlying feeling of having to "go". Hard to explain! When this happens to me, it goes on for about a week. -
Well while we're on the subject of stupidity, just off the top of my head a week or so ago, I was at the grocery store in the checkout line. I was fumbling in my purse for my keys and sunglasses--could not find the sunglasses. Fumbled in the purse a few more times, looked in cart, by this time I'm in the car. I figured I lost them--I get home and realize...

ARCHIVED Question For You Veterans...
jerseyangel replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's not that it's normal, it's just that we learn to live with the symptoms. It happens over time, in some cases, and after a while we forget what "normal" actually feels like. -
ARCHIVED Question For You Veterans...
jerseyangel replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The groggyness (?) is probably a combination of fatigue and brain fog--I get that, too. The rumbling stomach is the dead giveaway for me because that is the only time that it happens. -
Oat bran muffins are delicious--I used to make them years ago. You can sweeten with maple syrup or brown sugar and add raisins and/or nuts. Easy to carry with you, too. Oh shoot, I forgot you have a gluten-free house.

ARCHIVED Trying To Quit Smoking
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm afraid my story won't help Lister, either. I was a smoker from age 16 . Back then, in the early 70's, it was not uncommon. I got pregnant when I was 24, and had such nausea that I quit just like that. Couldn't stand to smoke, eat, or anything else. I never took it up again, but the cravings went on for a few years--especially after a good dinner... -
ARCHIVED Question For You Veterans...
jerseyangel replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A gluten reaction for me is fairly predictable. It starts about 2 hours after the ingestion. The first signs are stomach rumbling and gas that lead to D. -
ARCHIVED Some Symptoms Diseapering
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, this is correct--you have to have the genes, a trigger, and gluten present in the diet to develop Celiac. Even the gene testing isn't perfect because not all of the genes connected to Celiac have been identified. -
ARCHIVED Lays Orginal Chips + One Other Question
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As far as the chips go, all you can do is try them if you want to. They don't bother me, but I'm sure that there are people that can't eat them. I wish there was a guarantee, but there just isn't. -
ARCHIVED Lays Orginal Chips + One Other Question
jerseyangel replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Lister--I eat the Lay's Natural Thick Cut Chips and their Kettle Cooked Chips. Their chips (except the Stax) are not made on dedicated lines, but I have not had a problem with them. Strangely, I have had a reaction to the Stax--probably the dairy CC. The chicken I'm not familiar with. It's best to look for plain meats--just chicken, pork or beef... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
jerseyangel replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yea Julie--I know what you mean. I have been sick--although not bedridden--for 20 years. Some periods of time were worse than others. Looking back even to last year at this time--just before I was finally diagnosed, I was so much worse than I am now. I could hardly function, had quit a job I loved, and was so depressed I didn't want to get out of bed... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Nail Fungus?
jerseyangel replied to Swingin' Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think thats a wise way to go--I didn't notice the positive changes until probably at least 10 months had passed. Be sure to keep your toes and nails dry--be extra dilligent after a shower or swimming. That will further encourage healing. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Nail Fungus?
jerseyangel replied to Swingin' Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've touched on this before, but did not go into detail. I had a problem with this--not terrible, but my toenails were a bit darkened and thick. I never wore sandals without nailpolish--ever. The good news is that I've been gluten-free for almost a year--11 1/2 months--and my toenails gook great. I did nothing special to them and took no medications for... -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics
jerseyangel replied to Ronnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi--I use Shikai Shampoo and Conditioner, and love them! All of their hair care products are gluten-free and SLS free. Most of their bath and body care products do contain gluten, though. I use Loreal Feria to color my hair. I verified by phone that it had no gluten ingredients. -
