  1. yep. my post wasn't intended as a reply to yours, just using a bit of alliteration taken from your post. I agree - we have to do what's comfortable for each of us, and there is a lot of misinformation around - there always will be.
  2. aromatics - the smells you sense - aren't large molecules like the protein molecule. that being said, if there was flour around that she could have picked up and ingested, should could have gotten glutened. after 24 hours, it could be that she's cranky for other reasons, because she couldn't have the pancakes, because she contaminated herself, because she...
  3. I've only seen them pictured on the outside of the box, but they look the same as the round tea 'bags', which don't use any adhesive whatsoever. They're waffle pressed together. Using adhesive in them doesn't actually make any sense, as it would alter the flavor of the coffee, and probably in a not-so-very pleasant way... I'm quite skeptical that there...
  4. Oh yes, many of us. There's a very wide range here all along the spectrum between the very formal "blood work, biopsy, follow-up biopsy" to "totally self-diagnosed by diet, no doctor ever involved". (You can see where I am from my sig below.) Welcome to the board! Happy gluten-free eating!
  5. I'm not used to metric measurements as a matter of course, but it looks like to little fat and/or moisture. some xanthum gum might help a bit as well. you can't really expect the exact same texture - gluten is what gives baked goods that springyness, and is exactly what we've removed - but you'll get something that's not too far off.
  6. do you have other habits which could be getting a lot of air into your system? any carbonated beverages? sipping a lot of hot beverages? a lot of throat clearing? you can take in a lot of air with your drinks and food (even if it's just water) depending on how you drink, and if you're not the body type that burps it out, it'll come out the other way....
  7. Hey, if this doc will help you with it, then it sounds like it might be worth it! There's a lucky break! As for the supplements, I didn't mean whether or not they had gluten, but whether or not your system liked the actual supplement itself. As for the BCP... well... you've just listed a couple of the reasons I went off it. 2 months probably...
  8. We've painted two rooms in our house now, one which was half-basement and only had one window without great ventilation. We used Sherwin-William's very low VOC paint. While it can limit your colors somewhat (the no-VOC base can't be used for very bright colors), and it's a bit more expensive than cheap paints, it didn't bother my asthma *AT ALL*. We had...
  9. while you may have had a period at this weight before, and while it only puts you at 4 pounds under the lowest 'healthy' bmi, it's more a question of body fat than weight. body fat produces and stores estrogen, which is needed to regulate a normal cycle, so if you're too low on body fat, even if you're at a healthy weight, you'll have issues. but it...
  10. it varies *GREATLY* from person to person. it entirely depends on how much damage you've had, how quickly you heal, and how long you've been gluten free, and those things are not entirely interdependent. after a month, you definitely run a risk of showing a false negative. I showed inconclusive after two weeks (but I don't think I had been gluten intolerant...
  11. I keep a bottle of the dry skin therapy body lotion at home, a little tube of hand cream in my purse (I still use it on elbows and hands, it's just a smaller size so I can carry it around), I've tried the green tea facial moisturizer (it's fine), but I like the facial cream from the same line as above (I'd use the regular lotion, but my face is very prone...
  12. I like both Open Original Shared Link and Alba Botanica's Body Creams (my current favorite is the Open Original Shared Link one). Of course, you can just use pure oils (organic nut oils are good, I happen to like Open Original Shared Link), right after getting out of the shower (don't dry off harshly, just pat dry).
  13. while I'm quite aware that gluten is too large of a molecule to be absorbed through my skin, I'm also aware of the taste of my skin lotion, hand lotion, and shampoo - none of it intentionally. (I don't wear makeup, or I'd probably know what that tastes like as well.) given that, and given that there are OODLES of gluten free products out there, I figure...
  14. how long has your remodel been going on, and how much destruction has been occurring? I'm wondering if they've been kicking up other nasty stuff - not just mold, but lead in old paint, asbestos in acoustic ceiling, etc...
  15. Yep - it's a matter of getting used to, and eventually liking, other tastes. If you refuse to try other things, you'll just find yourself frustrated and limited. Sometimes, even for a little while, we have to remind ourselves that food is there to sustain us. Yes, that might mean that we can't take the enjoyment and pleasure out of food that we used to...
  16. Open Original Shared Link has some information, as does Open Original Shared Link. the main symptoms are fatigue, weakness, headache, and irritability. decreased appetite and odd food cravings are also symptoms. obviously, that overlaps with a lot of other things, and they test for it by doing a couple of different blood tests. how to treat it, however...
  17. there's not really anything else you can do. it's her decision, whether you support it or not. it's the same thing we want from people who don't believe us - for them to accept that it's our decision, whether they support it or not. you've let her know of your concern, and then backed off. that's all you can do.
  18. while someone has posted a link suggesting that gluten could be used in some medical adhesives, that's the only reference I've ever seen to that effect, and I've never seen anything confirming it actually being used in a commercial product that we might come into contact with. at the same time, I am sensitive to adhesives as well - they have plenty of...
  19. If your vitamin/mineral levels are off, it may take a while. You may find that taking extra calcium (without lots of magnesium in it) helps balance things out a bit.
  20. I am skeptical that you'd find a doctor who'd work with you through a thorough elimination diet, without a whole heck of a lot of searching. There are probably some out there, but they always focus on "this is too hard for patients" by considering the average patient, not you in particular, and you may get less than *YOU* want. I suspect the magnesium...
  21. can you stay at a friend's house? a hotel? just getting out of that environment might help...
  22. how complex are the foods your eating? are you eating packaged products with multiple ingredients (this includes things like rice milk or soy milk)? are you eating whole foods, but two dozen different things when you include *everything* that you eat in a day? a food diary helps if you vastly simply what you are eating, and set up patterns in your diet...
  23. The best way to know, is to do an eval with a psychologist. Mine took three hours, and I swear the only people who would guess that outcome are myself and my husband (we live together *and* work together, so we're around each other all the time). Here's the diagnostic criteria from the ICD-10. I'm using that, rather than the DSM-IV, because the latter...
  24. I just take peeled, chopped apples, stick 'em in a pot with some water, and boil 'em down, down, down. when they start getting really low, you have to be very careful not to let them burn, keeping the heat low, and stirring constantly, and remember that it'll thicken a bit on cooling. But that's it. (I prefer not having cinnamon in my apple butter, but...
