  1. * sex talk warning - keep scrolling if it bothers you... * The cervix can shift position, so - since you can't get to a doctor right now - you might try keeping track of whether or not different positions (different levels of penetration) make any difference. I hope you can get in soon - that really doesn't sound good, and like something that should be...
  2. I have a condition that makes sex painful, but it is most definitely gynecological, not intestinal. *fair warning - I'm gonna talk about girly parts - stop reading if you're unhappy about the prospect of reading about female anatomy and it's relation to sex* One of the things to see if you can separate out is the location and type of pain. There's...
  3. nope, there aren't any meds that will allow you to safely be able to consume gluten. but, there are a handful of beers out there that are gluten free. the chances that the pub you go to will have one of them is low, but if they can pick a place and stick with it, you may be able to talk to the owner to work something out, and possibly get them to order...
  4. ah yes... that's a popular one. good for those who aren't comfortable with interviewing, and need a script, but yeah... one of the bad ones. I think you're answer was amusing! :-) don't worry too much; it'l be just fine.
  5. Fruit! There's often insufficient fruit at a breakfast potluck, imho. And a fruit salad can look very festive depending on how you do it.
  6. Have you been checked for sinus issues?

    ARCHIVED Food

I'd encourage you to check out the safe/unsafe lists under the site index for general lists of what to look for to find out if something is safe or not. But this is a big change, for most people, and it takes time. Diet Coke is gluten free. Rice Krispies (brand name and most all store knockoffs) are *not* gluten free because they have malt (which is...
  8. - cheerios - nothing I've seen/heard come terribly close to the taste, but there are a couple (amaranth o's and perkys o's are the two that I can think of) - 'chex' - health valley makes rice crisp'ms and corn crisp'ms cereals that taste just like chex (only better, imho) - worstershire - IIRC, lea & perrins is fine - garlic, spices - yep, stick to...
  9. It's tough, but this condition forces us to hone the skill of protecting ourselves when everyone around us wants to do us harm (even if they don't actually *intend* harm and are just clueless). If you can't determine what is gluten free and what isn't, you'll need to eat ahead or bring something with you. Other's opinions should *not* matter in this...
  10. That is a tough call, but I *do* understand why you would want to do the challenge. The tricky part is that you need her to be old enough to communicate to you, but young enough that she hasn't hit the adolescent grace period (that some people get) where she'll be mostly asymptomatic. I'd say no later than 5, but realize that you may have to have her...
  11. The Underground Tour is great - ask him to sign you up for the 'adults' tour; it's better. Yeah, the weather has been... interesting. Snow the day after Thankgiving, massive rainstorms earlier this month, and the windstorm last night.... 700,000 customers without power, said one of the main power companies around here. (Seattle proper wasn't too bad...
  12. At such parties, I try to find out the menu. If there aren't plain fruits and vegetables (as appetizers) or something else painfully obvious to be only a single ingredient, I eat before. Heck, I'll usually eat before anyway, because contamination is a big risk at large catered events.
  13. You are not alone in feeling asymptomatic. Be glad it was caught this early, so that you are. (I know, it's a mixed blessing...) It's hard to get adjusting. Depending on how fast you naturally adjust to major change, you may find that you've only got another month to go, or another six months, until you feel comfortable having broken all the old habits...
  14. You don't really get false positives, unless they gave you the results for another patient. Many - MANY - celiacs do not have GI symptoms. Many don't get diagnosed until they are tested due to a deficiency, like anemia, so this is really no surprise. The gluten free diet need in no way conflict with a diabetic diet, but she would have to avoid some...
  15. Fab points! My hypoglycemic symptoms definitely give me headache issues (thought they are different from migraines), and I also had to rule out hormone issues, and know that too little sleep leaves me more susceptible, though is insufficient for a trigger on it's own. They even did a sinus MRI on me, to rule out chronic sinusitis, given my asthma/allergy...
  16. OTC meds won't help migraines - they don't address the need to constrict the expanded blood vessels in the brain. If you've got chronic migraines, it's worth following Ursula's advice and trying to track down any potential food offenders, but there's more that can cause migraines. I believe my chronic migraines are related to barometric pressure changes...
  17. tomatoe sauce and veggies - all the regular stuff other than the cheese. if it's fresh and you use flavorful herbs, you're probably be fine.
  18. Not sure about the green - but B-vitamins make the yellow!
  19. The anti-gliandin tests are still valid tests, though they are only *part* of the full panel. I have no idea why they would be entirely dismissed, and you should ask her what tests she's replacing them with. Those certainly seem like quite positive results to me, and I would make sure that *all* contamination has been eliminated from their diet before...
  20. It's not a question of whether or not you're diagnosed - if you're reacting, you need to be gluten free so you don't damage your intestines. The actual diagnosis is irrelevant. It is worth trying, if you think that gluten is a problem.
  21. I see from your sig that she's around 6 years old. Any chance she's acting up because she thinks she's being punished? Or that she has other food intolerances that are 'visible' now that gluten is out of her system? Some people do, however, think there is a withdrawl period where things get worse before it gets better, that you may just have to wait out...
  22. To the best of my knowledge, paper plates do not have gluten. Paper towels and toilet paper may come into contact with gluten depending on the glue used on the last sheet. Most of us don't worry about this (aside from, perhaps, forgoing the last sheet), but some have called comapnies to find out which ones don't even have this. Dry wall and wallpaper...
  23. lol! I love your cookie box!
  24. lol! no way! someone coming to my work holiday party (hosted at my house) is bringing pigs in a blanket (I doubt they'll be gluten-free), and I was commenting today that I had never heard of such a thing being a holiday party appetizer! whatdayaknow!?!
  25. I originally found it at Wild Oats, but then purchased a larger box (cheaper) online, directly from the producer - Open Original Shared Link It's nice in that it is higher in protein and fat, and much higher in fiber than most of the other gluten-free flours - even the whole grain ones - and provides a little more texture than the rest of them. That,...
