ARCHIVED Swollen Hip, Celiac Or Not? (Any Comments Appreciated)
MGR replied to tallypop's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I actually have both, Ulcerative Colitis and celiac symptoms. Apart from gastric issues, I also get horrendous joint pains in every single joint in the body, including hip pain that is so strong I have to hopple along- I've had it for most of my life and has been called seronegative arthritis caused by some intestinal symptom... Which for year was thought... -

MGR replied to spirit-walk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had horrendous joint pain for years. During my gluten challenge I swelled up so much all over, I couldn't even wear my wedding rings! I'm improving a bit now that I have been gluten free. -

ARCHIVED I Got Glutened By....my Own Stupidity!
MGR replied to tonalynn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't feel bad, I've done something even more stupid! I live in UK and my family and I spent Christmas in Spain with my family and my husband's family flew out from UK. Big party and very tricky to cater for gluten free surrounded by gluten full eaters. I was doing the cooking and managed to stay safe for nearly two weeks, only one minor incident with some... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Hamburger Bun Idea- Think Outside The Bun!
MGR replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can tell your husband that although it is an expensive gadget, it is essential! I have one and use it nearly every day- it is wonderful for cutting veggies for salads, soups, potatoes for Spanish omelettes, etc. it it my most used kitchen implement, and also the most dangerous one as one can cut oneself very badly- At home we have a rule where nobody... -
A tortilla press! What a fabulous idea - I love tortillas, but the gluten free ones I can buy here in Edinburgh have a sweet taste I find rather unpleasant- think I saw one in a shop I will buy it and make my own... Thanks so much for the tip. However, I also have a waffle maker and make thin waffles with yellow Dahl lentils, mung beans, chick peas, which...

Hi Porcelina, just seen your post- I know very well how you feel... I also had a similar experience, after 9 weeks of challenge I had my endoscopy and the surgeon who performed it saw scallopings which to him suggested celiac- however, both my blood test and biopsies were negative. I also just like you don't consume huge amounts of breads and pasta, etc-...

ARCHIVED Does Dh React To Corticosteroids And Can It Be Triggered By Corn?
MGR replied to Minstinguette's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have been gluten free for about three weeks now... I got glutened at a friend's house and next day DH flared up inside and around my mouth - and it is still growing... When I was young I was always told that corticosteroids were detrimental for DH... In fact, I was told not to touch them and just let them dry out naturally- I know, very tricky not to.. -
ARCHIVED Any Uk People Joined Celiac Uk
MGR replied to jhol's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This thread is also old but I would like to contribute and corroborate the fact that coeliac uk are very behind with their information- and often inaccurate with respect to foods one can use which in other parts of world are taken to be dangerous for celiacs. They've launched their new website , but I haven't had a chance to study it in detail yet, I hope... -

ARCHIVED Bad Time At The Gastroenterologist's - To Biopsy Or Not To Biopsy?
MGR replied to KCG91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, I didn't realise medical records are not shared between S and E, I thought this had all changed! But with regards to the challenge, two weeks I think is not enough, from my experience. I did a nine week one- although I was quite ill from the beginning, the symptoms changed over the weeks and became more persistent and around 5 weeks I felt different,... -
It seems to me that from all the things you ate on the first day you started your diet, the only thing no one has mentioned is the beans you ate... I know many people don't tolerate them ... I am one of them.. I think quinoa is also a legume.

ARCHIVED How Is Life For Coeliacs In Spain?
MGR replied to LivesIntheSun's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've just joined this thread in the forum, but in case it is not too late ... I know that the supermarket MERCADONA boasts that for every gluten full product they have a gluten free one available- the owner of that chain has a celiac child and in order to cater for celiac customers has come up with this clever idea- you can buy schar products in El Corte... -
ARCHIVED Self-Diagnosed Celiac!
MGR replied to Jem Stone's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was told to have 2 or 3 slices of bread a day- So I had toast for breakfast, bagel or sandwich for lunch, pasta or something like that for dinner- biscuits or crackers for snack, doughnuts a glass of beer - and I got very, very I'll throughout but at the end of 8 weeks thought I was going to die! Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Bad Time At The Gastroenterologist's - To Biopsy Or Not To Biopsy?
MGR replied to KCG91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there, I also live in Scotland and I am currently going through the process of being diagnosed. When being tested here I have heard that there is a great difference in successful diagnosis depending on where you are. Although there have been recent studies revealing that there is an increase of children being diagnosed in Scotland, there are also studies... -
ARCHIVED Amount Of Gluten To Consume Before Testing
MGR replied to Lyrae's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I should have probably done my own question thread, but I feel that my query is related to Lyrae's ... I also have another autoimmune disorder. I naturally have never consumed very much gluten as we always cooking from scratch, I also always control my bread intake because I am always worried to put on weight and keep the pressure on my sore knees down- as... -

ARCHIVED Feeling Left Out.
MGR replied to bburmeister0407's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I thank you all for these tricks of the trade.. Two days ago I had a newby classic! I was invited at my bosses house for dinner, and although I had told her that I was celiac (-and we had already had the extensive conversation covering what I could eat), when I arrived there for dinner, what had they prepared? Of course, Lasagna!! And for dessert, brownies... -

MGR replied to sweetsailing's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for sharing this with us- I greatly appreciate it as one of my most unpleasant symptoms is actually this one -? I have now been gluten free for a week and I already feel... -
