  1. I saw a similar change with Ghirardelli cocoa. Customer service said they had changed where it was manufactured, and it is now made on shared equipment.
  2. Great numbers! I've been gluten free for two years and some tests are still positive.
  3. "What does “The SPE pattern appears essentially unremarkable. Evidence of monoclonal protein is not apparent.” mean exactly?" That's good! You don't have monoclonal antibodies. If the excess antibodies were monoclonal it would be a concern. Monoclonal antibodies are made by a cell and its daughter, granddaughter etc cells, which all are the same and...
  4. Can you get the report that includes her results and the normal ranges? Those numbers look low, but normal ranges differ from lab to lab so it's hard to evaluate without them.
  5. Can you get a copy of the results? You wrote "allergy panel", but celiac is not an allergy. If the full celiac panel, including IgA and IgG antibodies, has not been run, that would be a less invasive next step than an endoscopy for your little one.
  6. I can't get gluten free corn flakes at my grocery store (the corn flakes they have has malt extract which may have gluten) so I have Corn Chex instead.
  7. I used to prepare plain roast chicken so that the dog (who had IBS) could eat with us.
  8. I've driven 20 minutes to a gluten free cafe.
  9. I haven't tried this recipe yet, but she says it is a bit like a popover (although with lots of cheese). Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Gluten Free Map

2GOOD2B 204 N El Camino Real, Encinitas, California, 92024, United States 2B by 2GOOD2B 423 F Street, San Diego, California, 92101, United States Both completely gluten free
  11. YES!!! Great news.
  12. I hope that it is only a benign cyst and that you don't have to wait too long to find out. If i knew how to insert a "hug" emoticon I'd put one here for you.
  13. I worried a little but didn't freak out. I've heard that being called back for more testing is pretty common. It is one reason that some people feel that too many mammograms are done - all of the false positives/callbacks cause too much emotional stress.
  14. Bunnies can eat more than one type of hay. If alfalfa bothers you, you could try timothy. Although it might be hard to always buy the type that doesn't bother you. i think the local house rabbit society sells a mix (at least they used to - it has been years since I had a bunny).
  15. I had that happen last year, turned out to be nothing.
  16. The idea of doing genetic testing of relatives is to rule out Celiac. If ruled out, that's it, no more testing. If it is not ruled out, antibody testing every few years.
  17. This blog post on Science Based Medicine discusses the problems with studying and diagnosing non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Some researchers now suggest that people diagnosed with NCGI aren't reacting to the gluten, but are reacting to another component of the wheat. If someone is on a gluten free diet, they are also basically on a wheat free diet. But in the study you reference, it looks like purified gluten was added to the diet. That study would not detect a reaction to...
  19. Several percent of the people tested. That is what it means to have a specificity of 96 or 97%. It is not accurate 100% of the time.
  20. I used to develop tests for antibodies. They are not perfect. Run the same sample twice and the numerical results will be off by a bit. If a different person runs the test, or it is run on a different day, the results will be further off. I looked at information on the FDA website for one manufacturer of celiac DGP tests. When two different tests manufactured...
  21. Edited: Oops, I meant to post this in a different thread. Sorry if it is not relevant here. I used to develop tests for antibodies. They are not perfect. Run the same sample twice and the numerical results will be off by a bit. If a different person runs the test, or it is run on a different day, the results will be further off. I looked at information...

    ARCHIVED Any Ideas?

There is an article in the most recent Scientific American about people who suddenly become savants. Open Original Shared Link
  23. This is from the FDA website: Are statements like “made with no gluten-containing ingredients” or similarly “not made with gluten-containing ingredients” permitted on labels of foods bearing a gluten-free claim? Yes. Neither the final rule nor FDA’s general food labeling regulations prohibit the use of a statement like “made with no gluten-containing ...
  24. I had an unexplained episode of double vision. Since I do get classic migraines, the neurologist finally decided it was a variant of a migraine. This was before I was diagnosed with Celiac and went gluten free. I get far fewer migraines now.
  25. I had a sore and swollen lymph node in my armpit once - it turned out to be mononucleosis.
