  1. I haven't tried this recipe yet, but she says it is a bit like a popover (although with lots of cheese). Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Gluten Free Map

2GOOD2B 204 N El Camino Real, Encinitas, California, 92024, United States 2B by 2GOOD2B 423 F Street, San Diego, California, 92101, United States Both completely gluten free
  3. YES!!! Great news.
  4. I hope that it is only a benign cyst and that you don't have to wait too long to find out. If i knew how to insert a "hug" emoticon I'd put one here for you.
  5. I worried a little but didn't freak out. I've heard that being called back for more testing is pretty common. It is one reason that some people feel that too many mammograms are done - all of the false positives/callbacks cause too much emotional stress.
  6. Bunnies can eat more than one type of hay. If alfalfa bothers you, you could try timothy. Although it might be hard to always buy the type that doesn't bother you. i think the local house rabbit society sells a mix (at least they used to - it has been years since I had a bunny).
  7. I had that happen last year, turned out to be nothing.
  8. The idea of doing genetic testing of relatives is to rule out Celiac. If ruled out, that's it, no more testing. If it is not ruled out, antibody testing every few years.
  9. This blog post on Science Based Medicine discusses the problems with studying and diagnosing non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Some researchers now suggest that people diagnosed with NCGI aren't reacting to the gluten, but are reacting to another component of the wheat. If someone is on a gluten free diet, they are also basically on a wheat free diet. But in the study you reference, it looks like purified gluten was added to the diet. That study would not detect a reaction to...
  11. Several percent of the people tested. That is what it means to have a specificity of 96 or 97%. It is not accurate 100% of the time.
  12. I used to develop tests for antibodies. They are not perfect. Run the same sample twice and the numerical results will be off by a bit. If a different person runs the test, or it is run on a different day, the results will be further off. I looked at information on the FDA website for one manufacturer of celiac DGP tests. When two different tests manufactured...
  13. Edited: Oops, I meant to post this in a different thread. Sorry if it is not relevant here. I used to develop tests for antibodies. They are not perfect. Run the same sample twice and the numerical results will be off by a bit. If a different person runs the test, or it is run on a different day, the results will be further off. I looked at information...

    ARCHIVED Any Ideas?

There is an article in the most recent Scientific American about people who suddenly become savants. Open Original Shared Link
  15. This is from the FDA website: Are statements like “made with no gluten-containing ingredients” or similarly “not made with gluten-containing ingredients” permitted on labels of foods bearing a gluten-free claim? Yes. Neither the final rule nor FDA’s general food labeling regulations prohibit the use of a statement like “made with no gluten-containing ...
  16. I had an unexplained episode of double vision. Since I do get classic migraines, the neurologist finally decided it was a variant of a migraine. This was before I was diagnosed with Celiac and went gluten free. I get far fewer migraines now.
  17. I had a sore and swollen lymph node in my armpit once - it turned out to be mononucleosis.
  18. You are a very thoughtful friend. I'd eat the cake!
  19. Thank you for posting that - I searched for such papers and didn't find this. I guess I didn't use the correct search terms!
  20. The titer result is probably from the endomysial antibody test. The titer of 1:160 means that when your daughter's serum was diluted one part her serum and 159 parts diluent, it was still positive. That is a high positive for that test.
  21. FDA just issued guidance on gluten-free labeling. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I understand your desire to test yourself with a bite of gluten. I was diagnosed because of chronic migraines, and I'm not sure if I have digestive symptoms or not. I sometimes have nausea, but don't know if it is because of eating something that was contaminated with gluten or not. It would be nice to know, because then when nauseated I would search for...
  23. Do you know if your mother had one or two copies of HLA DQ2? if she had two copies, you have to have at least one copy (and one is enough for Celiac).
  24. If you like reading FDA documents here is a link to more on this subject (I work in an FDA-regulated industry and am used to reading their rules). Open Original Shared Link To answer some specific questions: Manufacturers do not have to test their products - they can use other methods to ensure they are below 20ppm gluten (using naturally gluten-free ingredients...
