  1. You are a very thoughtful friend. I'd eat the cake!
  2. Thank you for posting that - I searched for such papers and didn't find this. I guess I didn't use the correct search terms!
  3. The titer result is probably from the endomysial antibody test. The titer of 1:160 means that when your daughter's serum was diluted one part her serum and 159 parts diluent, it was still positive. That is a high positive for that test.
  4. FDA just issued guidance on gluten-free labeling. Open Original Shared Link
  5. I understand your desire to test yourself with a bite of gluten. I was diagnosed because of chronic migraines, and I'm not sure if I have digestive symptoms or not. I sometimes have nausea, but don't know if it is because of eating something that was contaminated with gluten or not. It would be nice to know, because then when nauseated I would search for...
  6. Do you know if your mother had one or two copies of HLA DQ2? if she had two copies, you have to have at least one copy (and one is enough for Celiac).
  7. If you like reading FDA documents here is a link to more on this subject (I work in an FDA-regulated industry and am used to reading their rules). Open Original Shared Link To answer some specific questions: Manufacturers do not have to test their products - they can use other methods to ensure they are below 20ppm gluten (using naturally gluten-free ingredients...
  8. I think your doctor is being ridiculous. I have blood tests done at a lab instead of through my doctor because it is cheaper - and my primary care doctor and GI specialist both accept them.
  9. Here's how I think about it. I was tested because of migraines. No GI issues. I didn't have a biopsy due to an unrelated medical reason. But my feeling is - I had a positive blood test that said my body was attacking itself (TTG IgA is an antibody against a normal protein). I was willing to go on a gluten free diet to keep my body from attacking itself...
  10. I was diagnosed with celiac because of migraines. I used to get them 1 to 3 times a month (for almost 30 years) but after being gluten free for a few months I started a nine month period without one. I hope that your migraines will show a similar response to the gluten free diet.
  11. IgA is a type of antibody, but just saying IgA doesn't say what "antigen" the antibody recognizes. IgA 202 is your total IgA level. This is checked because some people with celiac don't make much IgA - if that had been the case and the other IgA tests were negative, one couldn't say yes or no to celiac and then would have to test IgG antibodies. But yours...
  12. After being gluten free for a year my DGP IgA test was still positive, although lower (all of the other tests had returned to normal range). In some people it can take quite a while for the antibody levels to come down to the normal range.
  13. I'm not good at advocating for myself, but since no one else has replied yet I wanted to say, YES you are welcome to post here!
  14. With negative being 0-3, I was a 76 for TTG IgA.
  15. In FDA's search engine for inactive ingredients it only lists gluten, wheat and wheat starch as an inactive ingredient in tablets and capsules, not injectables. If you're getting a brand name (not generic) drug you can google the name plus "prescribing information" and you should be able to find the package insert (you may have to click on a button that...
  16. If the lab says <4 is antibody not detected then your result of 3 is great! Good job being gluten free.
  17. The Ttg AB IgA and IgA serum are reported in different units so the serum level being lower than the ttg level is not an issue.
  18. Are you eating gluten free oatmeal? Oats are often contaminated with wheat.
  19. In my 23andMe technical report for celiac for gene HLA-DQA1 they have SNP rs2187668 and say "We only report data on one subtype of HLA-DQ2. Of all the risky HLA-DQ subtypes, this subtype, called HLA-DQ2.5, is most often associated with Celiac Disease". Someone recently had a very nice post explaining how these are all related. DQA1 and DQ2.5 are not...
  20. Thanks for the report, I'll try to go tomorrow.
  21. Gottaski, please let us know how the Gluten Free party is, I haven't yet decided if I want to go or not.
  22. In case anyone is interested, I also asked Nestle about their Tollhouse cocoa: "Nestlé® Toll House® Baking Cocoa - Made in the same facility as products that contain gluten ingredients." I have tried Scharffen Berger cocoa - good but pricey.
  23. Just wondering why you feel Ghirardelli is ok? The label on their cocoa (my favorite) changed recently to "may contain wheat." I contacted them and they said it is now made by a "co-manufacturer" on shared equipment. I stopped using it and have been trying to convince myself that I like Hershey's cocoa.
  24. I'm very sensitive to many, but not all, adhesives. I once had huge oozing blisters from the adhesive tape used to apply a bandage after abdominal surgery (the nurses come quickly when you say something is oozing from under your bandage). I can handle silk tape and sheer bandaids. When I have blood drawn I remove the bandaid as soon as I am out of sight...
