ARCHIVED Silly Question...
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Exactly, and it is definitely not safe. Not in food and not in shampoo, soap, lotion or anything else. Avoid it! -
ARCHIVED How Long Before My 5yo Starts Gaining Weight?
Ursa Major replied to mamatide's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mamatide, it sounds like your daughter has made great strides. She looks healthy, she is happy and painfree, she sounds like she is doing great. Her intestines must be healing for those changes to have happened. Healing takes energy. My opinion is, that right now her body is using all the energy from the good food (which is finally actually being absorbed... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think I Might Have Celiac
Ursa Major replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, your symptoms sound just like mine before going gluten free. So, yes, in my opinion, there is a very good likelyhood that you have celiac disease, especially with so many people in your family having it. I say, definitely get tested! -
ARCHIVED A Very Strange Symptom..
Ursa Major replied to barilla's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Tiffany is right. This is a true allergic reaction. The next time you could go into anaphylactic shock, it is not safe to eat or drink soy again to test if that was the problem. It could kill you. You need to be tested for soy allergy, and if that is what it is, you need to carry an epi-pen with you, in case you accidentally ingest soy (like those kids... -
ARCHIVED Ok, I Gotta Ask This...
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I looked sickly as a child and teenager, but looked well after that. And I was gaining weight, had rosy skin (too rosy, I think), and refused to act sick (when my foot was so bad, I'd rather stop and pretend to look at something in a store window, than limp). So, when people would ask me how I was, and I dared say 'not very well', they didn't really believe... -
ARCHIVED Tried Neocate 1+ In Feeding Tube Last Night
Ursa Major replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tanya, don't apologize for panicking yesterday! Anybody would have panicked, and this is the best place to come to for support. And maybe you got some great ideas as a result, that might actually work. My reaction to eggs is much the same as to gluten, so maybe cutting out eggs would be a good idea after all. If it makes no difference, you could just eat... -
Well, my first symptom is usually a bad stomach ache, within an hour or so. Next I'll get acid reflux. By the next day all my joints ache, I get this film over my eyes that makes it hard to see, my eyes will be tearing from the corners, I will get a bad backache, headache, my knees will buckle on the stairs. Next I will be swelling up (feet and hands especially...

Asley, it is possible to get TOO MUCH fiber, which can also cause those same problems. Have you tried drinking more water, or drinking prune juice? Are you getting enough fat? Do you think you might have other intolerances, that could be causing this, like a dairy intolerance? For me, eating potatoes could go either way, I either get diarrhea, or constipation...

ARCHIVED Round And Round We Go
Ursa Major replied to moonunit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, I am glad for you! Maybe you have gluten intolerance AND can't tolerate carbonated drinks/artificial sweeteners? I have many intolerances, many of which would cause diarrhea. Gluten is only one of them. Whatever you're doing now, keep it up, it's working! -
ARCHIVED Omg I Might Actually Have celiac disease..
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jerry, I completely agree with everything that has been said already. You should definitely be tested for celiac disease! And if that makes you feel better........I figured out I have celiac disease last year, at the age of 52! I did see many doctors with 'obvious' celiac disease symptoms (obvious to people who actually know about celiac disease, unfortunately... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Wife Was Glutened
Ursa Major replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, they sure sound a lot like glutened symptoms to me! -
Do we really? Do you seriously believe that scientists have by now figured out what exactly every single part of a plant contains, and what it does? Personally, I don't believe we'll ever really know. The reason why certain vitamins and supplements don't work as they should, or are harmful, because parts of a plant will be used (or copied chemically), thinking...

ARCHIVED Tried Neocate 1+ In Feeding Tube Last Night
Ursa Major replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is a good idea, to drink something that helps with milk production. I heard that raspberry tea will help with lactation. You never know, it's worth a try (and at the very least, it tastes good and would be something nice to do for yourself). -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Ursa Major replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow, I haven't read this thread for a while, because there were several more pages during the week we were in Vancouver, too. But I just read the last two pages, and couldn't believe it when reading about the film over some people's eyes and blurry vision when having reactions (making it hard to drive, or read or being on the computer, really), and puffiness... -
This of course is the same FDA who approved Vioxx and many other meds that have killed thousands of people. A lot of people in the FDA should be fired for conflict of interest, because they profit directly from the sales of a lot of those harmful foods/meds. Why trust them? And glutamate naturally occurring in certain foods, and adding it to foods that...

ARCHIVED Hi Im Newwwwww 2 This Site
Ursa Major replied to nilam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Nilam, and welcome to the group. I agree with everything Nini says. You should be eating gluten for the testing, and should have had your bloodwork done before the endoscopy. But your fast positive response to the diet is pretty good evidence that your problem is celiac disease. Would you mind writing in regular English? I have had great trouble reading... -
ARCHIVED Tried Neocate 1+ In Feeding Tube Last Night
Ursa Major replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She might have an intolerance to corn, which won't show up on allergy testing. Especially if the reaction is delayed. She may need to get her heart medication made specifically made for her by a compounding pharmacy, so it won't contain corn starch. I think you're onto something here. -
ARCHIVED I Must Be Crazy, Or Am I?
Ursa Major replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, checking for chrohns and colitis isn't a bad idea, anyway. You can have those in addition to celiac disease, several people here do. I am glad you are not planning on being on gluten indefinitely, and that you have such a supportive husband. In the end you may have to ignore your mother, as it is your body, not hers. -
Claudia, I believe the tape they use at the hospital gives me DH. I get terrible reactions from it (and from cheap, plastic bandages), that sure look like DH. I am still waiting for the result of my skin biopsy, so can't say with certainty that's what it is. And yes, those terrible rashes will be in the shape of the tape! And sometimes for me would take YEARS...

ARCHIVED I Must Be Crazy, Or Am I?
Ursa Major replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I did a gluten challenge last month, before my dermatologist appointment, I didn't get diarrhea for a week! Last year things would go through me within 30 minutes (at best) after eating gluten. But now the reaction is very delayed.....at least the diarrhea is. I think that as your intestine heals, for some people the reaction will be quite delayed, making... -
ARCHIVED Interesting Dx Story
Ursa Major replied to Swingin' Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, and welcome to this board! Your story sounds familiar, I have read similar ones before. Doctors are so clueless! Actually, you got diagnosed much quicker than a lot of people here. I finally diagnosed myself at the age of 52, after having had celiac disease symptoms from infancy! Anyway, I am sure others will chime in who had a story similar to yours... -
ARCHIVED Stupid Question
Ursa Major replied to taz sharratt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Taz, and welcome to this board. I agree with Vincent. I believe Dr. Green, who is a Celiac specialist, wants the distinction dropped, as there really is no difference. When diagnosed officially with celiac disease, that just means more damage has already been done. And by the way: There is no such thing as a stupid question here!!!!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Symptoms?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Armetta, it sounds a lot like your daughter may have celiac disease as well. It might be a good idea to have her tested, and to put her on the gluten-free diet as well, even if she tests negative. -
ARCHIVED Night Shades
