  1. Jerry, you didn't self-diagnose, you got a diagnosis from Enterolab! That, combined with feeling better off gluten, and feeling terrible eating it is a firm diagnosis. What else do you need? I really can't understand why you question the Enterolab diagnosis and bother making yourself sick again now. I feel like 'coming over' and giving you a good shake! ...
  2. I use HMF Forte Human Microflora by Genestra Brands. It costs a fortune, but is guaranteed to be free from sucrose, starch, salt, preservatives, artificial flavors or additives; or any corn, wheat, yeast, gluten, soy, dairy or animal by-products. It is in vegetable capsules. I got worse when taking other brands, but this one really helps and I don't react...
  3. Hi Ben, and welcome back. I am not a skater, is that a problem? Tell us what happened in the three years you were gone! And hey, if the first thing you do is threaten people (I assume it was a joke), you can't expect that they want to talk to you! Seriously, tell us a little bit about yourself. I've only known about celiac disease since October...
  4. Hi Johnny, eye rolling is a common tic with Tourette syndrome. You may want to see a pediatric neurologist. Which of course doesn't mean that your son doesn't have celiac disease, especially if it runs in the family. I find that my tics are much worse when glutened. They aren't nearly as bad as before I started the gluten-free diet.
  5. Karol, I definitely agree with the other posters that it is very likely that your son has celiac disease and needs to be on the gluten-free diet. The high tTg and all of his symptoms are evidence of that. Your first GI appears to have been incompetent when it comes to celiac disease (too many doctors are, but it is pretty pathetic how many GI doctors of all...
  6. Richard, I am glad you said that about it NOT being criticism of Candy. I also want to say it. Candy, this is definitely not criticism of you. A lot of people believe in the blood type diet, even doctors. And of course, it will work for some, and they are the ones who's testimonies they'll post. And that is just it. There are too many people who believe...
  7. Elizabeth, I think I know what the problem is. You don't get enough fat! You need to add more healthy fats to your diet. Saturated fat is what will keep you from being hungry so soon again, and is essential for all of your cells. Also, you need Omega 3 fatty acids for your body to function as well. Low fat diets are very unhealthy. Try cooking with coconut...
  8. Personally, I think the blood type diet is total nonsense. I checked what I should be eating according to the blood type diet, and it is almost entirely opposite to what I should eat. All the foods I am intolerant to (other than the nightshades) are supposed to be 'most beneficial', and the foods I can actually tolerate are supposed to be bad for me. On...
  9. Courtney, gluten-free bread gets stale very quickly. Which is why you keep it in the freezer, and just take out what you want to eat at any given time. You don't thaw it before putting it into the toaster, you put it in frozen.
  10. I can't believe that you actually got a diagnosis, but nobody must have told your mother that you need to eat a gluten-free diet! I am glad you figured it out now, and are starting to feel better.
  11. Barb, I am glad you are giving it another try. And yes, absolutely come and ask any questions you need to ask! That's what this forum is all about.
  12. Hi, and welcome to this board. People with villi damage cannot digest dairy. The reason is, that the enzyme lactase that is needed for digesting dairy is produced by the tips of the villi. But your biopsy showed that those tips are nonexistent right now. You need to eliminate dairy for now (you might be able to have it again after about six months), it...
  13. Going out to eat and bringing your own waffles sounds fine. BUT just using a regular toaster is not, those are loaded with crumbs. You might want to buy some toaster bags for when you go out. Here is one example. Open Original Shared Link You can get those from other companies, too. You can put your gluten-free bread, waffles, bagles etc. into those...
  14. Have you actually had a blood test to determine exactly where your ferretin level is at? It is not a good idea to guess at that, since too little will make you weak and tired, but so will too much. I suggest you see your doctor and ask for testing of your levels of the nutrients many celiacs are deficient in, like ferretin, vitamin D, calcium, magnesium...
  15. I second (third? ) what the others said. If the damage is visible to the naked eye without a microscope, there must actually be considerable damage. I hope you won't wait for the 'official' results before going back to the gluten-free diet. The sooner you heal that damage the better. Well, now at least you know. It is always better to know than having...
  16. I am sorry to hear that you can't trust your mother with the baby. I can't believe she gave it to him in spite of the protests of the other two kids! That reminds me of my mother-in-law, 21 years ago when my fourth child was born. She volunteered to look after the other kids while I was in the hospital (I had to have a cesarean because my daughter was...
  17. Even though what causes my cough is a little more unusual, I want to throw it out anyway. My cough is a tic!
  18. Well, this gene stuff is not one of my specialties. Just looks to me like you come by celiac disease honestly!
  19. Hi Pat, and welcome to this board. Actually, the gluten-free diet might look daunting at the beginning, but it really isn't that hard. I wished it was only gluten I need to eliminate! But for me it is all grains (including rice and corn), all legumes (including soy and peanuts), eggs, all dairy, all nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant),...
  20. Cute haircut, cute kids! Thanks for sharing.
  21. Okay, I get you now. I thought you would purposely eat gluten up to 50 mg a day. I agree that you shouldn't be paranoid about it, and understand your point now.
  22. Barb, I have to agree with the previous posters, especially Rachel. She knows first-hand what Lyme disease is about, too. Did you replace a lot of gluteny things like bread, cake, cookies, pasta etc. with gluten-free ones? The officially gluten-free foods are much higher in carbs and sugar, and will make you gain unwanted weight. Constipation, stomach...
  23. Carrie is right. With a mother who has celiac disease, and you having obvious symptoms, you are more likely than not to have celiac disease as well, no matter what the doctor says. Good for you for standing your ground. My doctor didn't think I could have celiac disease either, her ONLY reason being, that I wasn't losing weight (I had all the other symptoms...
  24. I'm a redhead. My mother, who I am sure had celiac disease, had brown hair, but her mother had red hair (and her mother died young of stomach cancer, probably not a coincidence). No Irish heritage here, just German.
