  1. I've noticed pretty often that when I say I have celiac disease and that my body can't digest gluten, I frequently have people say they think they have it. I just wish people took it seriously and got tested.
  2. I do think the test does take more than one day to run and interpret. I was told 4 days is about the shortest. So that is strange. I have heard that many people have the test run several times and sometimes it takes a few times to actually come back positive. I was young (17) when I first started to realize something was wrong, like yourself. I wish I knew...
  3. Vineyard trips make for a great day trip! Usually a bring your own picnic type thing here in nj and sit out on the farm and sip wine a eat. Bonus- it's totally normal to ask questions about how the wine is made.
  4. Knowing how to cook sure does help! I made some potato salad and quinoa salad for a party last week end. The "Greek" quinoa salad was flavor genius! I felt bad for a second though, because my potato salad got cleaned out while my sister in laws mom's barely got touched. Lots of compliments on both dishes! No one asked why I brought gluten free food, they...
  5. I get alot of questions from friends who don't understand why i am so sensitive and why I have strange issues with CC and other foods even. What I say is the best way I know how to explain right now, I used to feel like garbage everyday, overwhelming fatigue, stomach aches, pain all over my body CONSTANTLY. Now that I have cut out the one huge thing that...
  6. It was a great interview, I thought the way he approached it was great. I got Jennifer's book for kindle and plowed through it in 2 evenings. It really made me feel 'normal' simply because I was not the only one who had these strange symptoms from a young age and misdiagnosis and all.
  7. Well I just wanted to update you all! I had a thoroughly delightful day yesterday! When my friends arrived we chatted for awhile and they asked a few questions about celiac disease and i answered, turns out jess finally got that test for celiac disease but it came up negative. She wasn't sure what exactly they tested (iGa and iGG or just one) she also said...
  8. I actually had my biopsy after being gluten free for 5 months and it showed enough blunting to diagnose but also that im healing slowly but surely! He did check for ulcers and there were none present there. I actually eat ALOT of foods compared to most newly diagnosed celiacs and I tolerate them pretty well too! So glad for that. I eat alot of spicy food...
  9. Fallons gluten free bake shop Ford's nj. I hear it's amazing, it's on my list! All gluten free facility. Little shanty, Warren nj. Dedicated fryers and prep areas for gluten free, udis buns!! Just plain good food, owners son has celiac and very willing to answer questions. Kitchen is behind see through walls, floor to ceiling. It helps my paranoia.
  10. Whatever the reason coffee seems to bother me personally. It seems to create issues for many people in general, it seems like I hear friends say how much they love it and how it doesn't like them. I personally think anything that is causing me abdominal discomfort, I need to figure it out and eliminate it. That being said, I stopped eating meat nearly 10...
  11. Also my stomach and many people, celiac or not have stomach issues with artificial sweetners. Can you have sugar? if so try that out.
  12. NEVER BLAME WINE! It's a glorious treat! There are many hard ciders that are gluten free as well, they are delicious. I am a lightweight though, 1 drink, once a month and im done! I was having a similar issue to you and then I actually linked to my problems to COFFEE. It seems that no matter how weak i make it, iced or hot, i still have a huge issue....
  13. I heard a rumor about a celiac friendly cruise that jennifer esposito is going to do. I would think that would be an amazing vacation for people like us! I am still new and I really have these feelings too sometimes, but I know im going to pay the piper with my health if i dont stick with it and be 'that girl'. I guess it really forces us to cultivate...
  14. It's funny because i worked at BK in my teens and the manager there was very strict about keeping the first 2 fryers for FRIES ONLY. I am not sure if thats the same at every BK but i wouldnt trust it!
  15. thanks for clearing that up. I never used those before.
  16. ok the weather in NJ stinks anyway.
  17. Thanks guys. I always feel selfish expecting to be able to eat these days when im out with friends. I really feel like if there's an occasion, it should be my birthday when Im allowed to be selfish. There really is alot of good options at these places so im hoping they will be open to it. I already talked to my friend kate and she said shes cool with trying...
  18. I love you. You should live in NJ and be my friend. LOL
  19. I am not sure what digestive enzymes are? Are we talking probiotics? If so, I have been taking kyolic's kyodophulis for years and I helps me so much. It's free of many known allergens.
  20. Bartful- The one is pretty understanding but the other- not so much, she has type 2 diabetes and should be eating healthy, but of course you can lead that horse to water- but you cant make her eat carrots! I have always been willing to go out to healthy places for her but she was actually the one resisting. Now I personally dont have a choice. I actually...
  21. i really doubt its all in your head. i think thats the running theme with celiac disease, nothing is off limits when it comes to symptoms. i would only dine at purely gluten free establishments. learn to cook so u can figure out what you are eating and in turn figure out what u cant eat. I for sure agree with a food diary. I have learned so much about...
  22. I developed some numbness/ circulation problems for the past month or so (after 4 months or so gluten-free) But it is already starting to improve i think.
  23. That is very strange. I have had strange skin sensations and those have improved greatly since going gluten-free. The bone pinches however have not, magnesium seems to help that. I would say that there must be something in the way of vitamins that they are missing. Some people have said there is nerve damage that can occur, i feel like that would explain...
  24. What are you trying to eat? When people are first diagnosed many things are not tolerable and there is a list of several items that you may want to cut out because they are highly allergic for celiac people. That list includes things like dairy and soy. You may also have trouble digesting raw vegetables and things like beans. So try cooking your vegetables...
