  1. I generally don't eat donuts for the health aspect either . Our Sunday tradition since I was a little kid was to get donuts for Sunday morning...they were the fluffy, fried, glazed donuts usually with chocolate frosting . I like cake donuts too but not as much as I like the chocolate glazed donuts . The frozen gluten-free ones I have are baked....but they...
  2. VERY--their staff has to undergo training, they have gluten-free buns and all the "allergy" food is brought out separately and in different colored baskets. You just missed the State Fair-they had 40 vendors this year that had gluten-free offerings .
  3. It depends....you can bring food on that you purchase after you go through security or anything you bring through security that meets TSA guidelines so just make sure you check those before you load up on food for flying or you may have to toss it all at security. There are some exceptions for medical reasons but not everything is accepted even for medical...
  4. I would flat out ask for it. Its bloodwork, which they should be taking anyway at your physcial, especially since you haven't had one for 3 years. With a family history and symptoms, there is no reason they should not be testing you. Doctors are not mind readers and while they may come to the same conclusion after talking to you, tell her you suspect Celiac...
  5. Your test results pasted kind of funky characters so I'm not sure I'm reading them right but Marsh 1 is Celiac--especially if you had been off gluten for a month. Your doctor is an idiot by the way .
  6. There are a couple Red Robin's and 5 guy's if nothing else and downtown Minneapolis is a foodie haven so you should have a lot of gluten-free choices. Not sure if you are driving or flying but if you go through Rochester, MN, stop at Twigs. The owner is Celiac!!!! The food is fantastic too . The menu is huge too .
  7. Does anyone have a link to those cards? I know my GI's office showed them to me but I can't remember the name of them!!
  8. Just stopped by our Aldi. They had quite a bit of gluten-free foods. I did not check the freezer case because I wasn't looking for freezer food but they had the "granola bars", cookie mixes, cupcake mix, and all-purpose flour, several varieties of chips (vege, potato, etc.) and everything seemed to be about $2.50. The Aldi by our old house was so horrible...
  9. It's likely that the hay is alfalfa or other grass but you could call the farm and ask just to make sure.
  10. Where are you going in MN? I might be able to help with places to eat--lived there for many years .
  11. A positive blood tests trumps a negative biopsy. Depending on how the biopsy was taken, they might have just missed the damage--it happens frequently. Look on line or call your dr and get the full results of your lab tests, including the lab ranges for normal. I don't know that there is a need to go back to your GP, you have Celiac. If your insurance...
  12. I would make an appointment with an infectious disease doctor. Given your Celiac testing came back negative, it's possible with your symptoms that you issues are immune related and not Celiac. They should test your full IgG as well as the 4 subclasses. I'm assuming you are old enough to remember the movie "Boy in the Plastic Bubble" that is the same condition...
  13. It depends..... If we are making a night of it and it's a good "date" type place, we've driven an hour to do something like that. We used to have an amazing steak place about an hour away from our old house. We would go there a few times/year. If it's just a lunch place and I'm going out with friends, it would probably have to be in town or within...
  14. I'll have to remember those!! I bought some frozen donuts---they were nasty.
  15. Open Original Shared Link I would say that your symptoms are right on target given there are so many symptoms of Celiac. Also, a lot of your "diagnosing" is just assumptions. Yes, long-term antibiotics can mess with your gut and you should probably take probiotics to help restore the balance, but that doesn't mean you have whatever you think you have...
  16. The total IgG is less important than the total IgA. If your TTIgA/IgG's came back negative with a normal IgA, that information is about as accurate as you can get. Now, if you have symptoms of low IgG, that might be a test to ask for. Are you sick all the time with colds, pneumonia, bronchitis, severe sinus infections, etc. that need 3 or 4 rounds of antibiotics...
  17. Well, I'm knocking on the door to 50 and I'm overweight but every test came back positive for me a couple months ago.....not all Celiacs are underweight...especially those of use with thyroid issues as well. If your doctors won't run the tests, find a new one.
  18. I travel quite a bit for work but mostly driving. I leave this week for 2 months on the road. I have a cooler that plugs into my car to keep some food cool between hotel stops and have found quite a bit of individual serving sizes of food and snacks to take. You probably can't fly with most of that food but you should be able to find similar at grocery...
  19. I LOVE gummy worms--the neon colored ones??? The last ones I found were processed in a facility with wheat--it wasn't pretty....ugggg
  20. Ok--made my pork steak...WOW is that a tender cut of meat!!! It was so juicy and fork tender. It looks a bit like a Porterhouse Steak. NUM!! Didn't brown the potatoes enough but it was a good cut of meat!! I'm going to have to special order a pork roast to get the potatoes to brown like I like them to.
  21. Kosher or Sea Salt.
  22. Try switching to decaf, it's easier on your stomach. I know my Dad had issues with coffee and they all went away after he moved to decaf. We suspect he might have been celiac but was never diagnosed though.
  23. I haven't been to a potluck since my diagnosis but in the past, I usually bring a fruit tray or vege tray. Around here, most people end up bringing main dishes or salads and there rarely is any "fill in" type foods. The trays are always emptied. Now, I'll just bring whatever I feel like eating that night and call it good. I have a really nice insulated...
  24. What do you normally cook for Christmas? I usually make Prime Rib, mashed potatoes with sour cream, cream cheese and green onions, a salad with romaine lettuce, celery, green onions and mandarin oranges, along with a dressing of sugar, vinegar, oil, salt and pepper. I'll be able to make all of that this year without any substitutions since I don't make...
  25. I'm making a pork roast with oven browned potatoes tonight. I haven't had this in a long, long time. You need a fatty roast to make it work and they just trim too much fat off meat these days. I got a larger pork steak that was well marbled so I'm hoping it works. The juices/fat from the roast caramelize the potatoes and they are oh so yummy..oh so not...
