  1. My MIL's pie crust recipe...easy, makes 3 crusts and with gluten flour they can be froze for use later--not sure if you use gluten-free flour if you can but I would think you could.... 3 cups flour 1 cup + 2 tbs. shortening (Crisco, lard, etc.) 1 tsp salt 1 tsp vinegar 5 tbs cold water 1 egg slightly beaten Stir salt into flour, cut shortening...
  2. I think the overall flavor would be fine even if it's not drinkable as a solo delight . Probably can't duplicate it gluten-free though since it's such a gluten heavy drink.
  3. It says 170 calories, but 2.5 servings, so double that and then some .
  4. Anyone have any ideas for a gluten-free substitute for Guinness Beer? I have an Irish Stew recipe that we like to make in the winter but it needs Guinness or a dark beer.
  5. The site says that $45 overnight shipping is included in that price so if you can find them at a retail location they would be more reasonably priced. The 340 calories would put me off from buying these on a regular basis but I LOVE tart lime flavored things .
  6. I started a thread when I was about 2 months out because I couldn't figure out how I was getting glutened....something about that 2 month mark. Others posted the same experience. Not sure why, but it seems common. I wasn't getting glutened, just weird healing stuff I guess.
  7. Lard used to be the shortening of choice when our grandparents were baking---and probably why most people have fond, fond memories of "Aunt Sally's" apple pie .
  8. Went to Jimmy John's last night. I checked and double checked with them to make sure everything was gluten-free--or what I could have was gluten-free. They called their manager to "verify" too....sicker than a dog today. Did some more research, their roast beef is NOT gluten-free....I will be stopping by to make sure they don't do that to someone else...
  9. Ok, insert head smack here--yes, I read IgG was low, not IgA..sorry. I would still look at that as a possible cause though. There really isn't anything they can do for a low IgA so know that. Our daughter is supposed to up her protein intake because that carries the IgA protein but it just is what it is. IF his IgG is low either overall or within a subclass...
  10. Not sure what those are, sorry.
  11. Blood in your stool should be a reason to go to the doctor depending on how much is there. It might be a hemorrhoid if it's just a small amount when you wipe, but if it is more than that, call your doctor.
  12. False negatives happen less than 2% of the time...see the link above.
  13. what is several days though--that is the question, 4 or 5 days is not going to make a difference in your results--4 weeks, probably might have some effect. False negatives happen 1-2% of the time so it's possible--or it could just be something else. Without the TTIgG tests, you won't know for sure though. You could still be negative on the IgA test but...
  14. Doing some online Black Friday shopping...decided to get a bread maker. Other than having a gluten free setting, what should I look for and/or which brand/model do you suggest?
  15. Kohl's has amazing online deals for Kitchen Aid mixers. The Artisian is $99 after rebates and Kohl's cash. The Pro 600 is a Black Friday deal (maybe tonight even) for $399, but then the various codes and Kohl's cash and it should come in around $200 or so...
  16. How long were you reducing your gluten and how much were you eating when you were tested? You don't need to eat much each day, a piece of bread or so. Also, numbers do not fall off that quickly. If it was only a week or two, you would still see some markers. <2 is exactly that, but if it was 3, they would have put 3. The range for for the ttIgA is...
  17. It's 100% possible not to drink or smoke...you just have to say no. If your friends don't accept that, well, they aren't friends. How many drinks are too many, the one that makes you start feeling tipsy, so probably no more than 2. Do you really need to be asking this? If you want us to give you permission to drink and smoke all you want, not happening...
  18. Dinner tonight, turkey, mashed potatoes, etc Happy Thanksgiving!!
  19. My first TG being gluten-free too..however, we are at my sister's and they are gluten-free as well and have been longer that I have. Even planning the meal, other than the stuffing (which there are gluten-free options for but they are making the gluten kind too), pretty much everything else is naturally gluten-free so that helps. We are not pie eaters so...
  20. Sorry about your mom. gluten-free bread--which ones have you tried? I like the Udi's. You find it in the freezer section as the shelf live is short. I'm not much of a sandwich person but I like it toasted. I recently tried the Glutino Englsh Muffins. They don't look very good but they taste pretty good. Other's have said that Aldi has a shelf-stable...
  21. I would push for the bloodwork before you go off gluten. It's just easier all that way around. Call the clinic back and just tell them you would really like the full panel done. That way you will know for sure one way or another. No family history could just mean no one has been tested. All of us have someone that was the "first" to find out they were...
  22. Did they run more than that? From what these are saying, he is not Celiac, unless he is Celiac and these are follow up tests after being gluten free, which then means this is good. The IgA that is 95 is a total IgA and they run that to make sure that is in the normal range. Generally they run a total IgG as well. I've never been able to get a straight...
  23. The flour/cornstarch is just a thickening agent so the coconut flour should be ok. You might find that there are not enough drippings from the breast to make any kind of gravy though. The broth always has a strong smell but will not be as bad after you made your gravy. You can make faux mashed potatoes with cauliflower. I guess it tastes very similar...
  24. Mayo reports their gene testing a bit strange and I still can't understand mine . What were his numbers from his Celiac tests?
