  1. Dr. Oetker's pudding set up with rice milk and it was the first pudding I'd had in over 10 years. Now I can't find it at the store - maybe you'll have better luck. They do produce gluten containing foods also, so there might be a chance of cross-contamination.
  2. Shannon - sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you perk up soon. I hope you like the chicken and dumplings, it's one of our favorites. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped today. It's rainy and cold and we didn't make it to the gym or go for a walk. B - 3 pieces of turkey bacon and a slice of rice toast (no butter), a small Satsuma orange L - 1 slice...
  3. I hope your sister is doing better. I've sent up a few prayers for her.
  4. You have to be careful with processed meats, and yes, deli meats are processed, because of the large amount of ingredients that are in some of them. There are safe options - usually the shorter the list of ingredients the better. You just have to be careful and look for hidden glutens. I don't buy any of the mainstream brands, so I'm not much help. I...
  5. I forgot one thing (thanks Peggy for reminding me). I sometimes make smoothies with either rice milk or occasionally coconut milk, fruit and rice protein powder.
  6. Welcome! I hope you find the forum helpful!
  7. I'm limited with my breakfast selections as well. I can't do eggs, so I'll make some other suggestions. Half an apple with a big glob of almond butter. A handful of almonds and a piece of fruit. Isernio's Chicken breakfast sausage and a piece of rice toast. Trader Joe's uncured Turkey Bacon and a piece of toast. Pancakes with a bit of almond butter...
  8. I'm not familiar with that recipe, but when I make mine I always use xanthan gum in the flour mixture. I add about 1 Tbs. more flour than it calls for and definitely let them cool before removing from the cookie sheet. Your butter may have been too soft also. It can be hard to tell. Keep trying though - you can always use the cookie crumbs for a crumb...
  9. Shirley - Thanks for all the pointers for puppy training. We'll start by getting one set of vocabulary for all his commands. Maybe that's why he does well with "sit", "shake" and "stay" because they're all one word commands that everyone uses consistently. LOL - Of course you ask for "recipes" that I just have in my head rather than written down...
  10. I have to avoid gluten, dairy, eggs and soy, but it's still fairly easy to keep everyone on the same food schedule. Having milk, cheese and eggs in the house is no big deal, but the only gluten allowed is sandwich bread and occasionally some low gluten cereal like Corn Chex or Rice Crispies. (I don't eat them, but I also don't freak out if there are a few...
  11. Rachel - that was really interesting. How do you detox for mercury?
  12. I just happened to see that at least one guest has been looking at this topic tonight. If you have any questions about MCD, please post it or PM me.
  13. Just a weird aside here. Has anyone else ever tried writing with their right hand the normal way and writing the same thing with their left hand backwards, both at the same time? (Think mirror image.) I used to do this all the time and thought that everyone could. I do have to stop and think about left and right - I'm often in front of one of my classes...
  14. I'm just wondering what flood control is. I thought it was when too many people were trying to post at once, but here I am one of three members on the board in the middle of the night and keep getting the pink screen telling me that flood control has been enabled and to wait 20 seconds. What is that all about?
  15. Wow, Nancy. This sounds EXACTLY like what I went through. (Most of the rest of your symptoms too, but I didn't want to quote too much.) I couldn't change my baby's diapers and had to have help every morning until about 11:00. The rheumatologist told me I'd be in and out of a wheelchair for the rest of my life, even if I took the medications he was prescribing...
  16. You are right on. I wonder how many people have been told they don't have Celiac, so not to try a gluten-free diet? If I had relied on standard testing I wouldn't have discovered that dietary changes would help.
  17. Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions and get good information. Hope you stick around.
  18. I've been looking for a dairy-free, soy-free, non-hydrogenated margarine for almost 11 years with no luck. I cheat with butter, since my reaction to soy is worse than small amounts of dairy, but would love to find something to take its place. I use coconut oil, olive oil, Spectrum organic shortening and occasionally grapeseed or almond oil.
  19. Shirley - When you come down to share my chocolate will you help me train my 7 month old puppy? I fear that he is training me more than the other way around. I'm good with kids, but am stumped with him. He's more spoiled than any of my 4 kids are! I'm lucky to be able to get him to walk on a leash for a few minutes until we get to where he can be off...
  20. Domesticated in behavior, yes, but how would their digestive tracts have "domesticated"? And what do you think people fed their pets a couple of centuries or even 50-60 years ago? Certainly not Purina puppy chow. You can easily find scientific information that shows that dogs' digestive systems, starting with their sharp teeth, are designed (evolved, if...
  21. Try the 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies. Everyone likes them. 1 Egg 1 C Sugar 1 C Peanut Butter Drop by teaspoon-fulls onto cookie sheet. Should make about 2 dozen. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes. Sometimes I add about 1/2 C Enjoy Life chocolate chips. I've taken them to church potlucks and they've all been eaten.
  22. It seems like everyday I'm on here confessing to eating more than I should. I've got to get this under control! "Hi, my name is Liz and I'm a food-aholic". Last night I ate pizza for dinner - just 3 small slices, very reasonable, and a salad with a bit of Italian dressing. The "bad" thing yesterday was the 3 pieces of toast made from brown rice bread...

    ARCHIVED Seattle?

Marlene's has a good selection of gluten-free stuff that's prepackaged - on the shelves and in the freezer section, but last time I was there it wasn't in its own section. Also, be careful about anything in their display case marked gluten-free - they don't "get" cross contamination and don't really care about catering to us. BTW - Marlene's is on 38th...
  24. Okay, so my real problem is that I'm bored today. (I'm not sure how that can happen - I have 4 kids and I don't usually have time to even think of being bored.) Anyway, I was eating a piece of toasted brown rice bread (from Trader Joe's) and I realized that I actually liked it. I vividly remember the first time I ate it thinking it was absolutely gross...
  25. I agree that nuts and coffee could both irritate your digestive tract - doesn't Starbucks have tea? Have you tried other foods that tend to be easily tolerated? Things like lamb, kiwi fruit, sweet potatoes, cooked fruits like applesauce, and squash might help add some nutrition without upsetting your system more. Your diet isn't too well balanced, which...
