  1. You could do this and still get a false negative. Or, you could be like me and have non-Celiac gluten intolerance, which I have discovered basically means I have Celiac disease without the correct genes. What led you to this website in the first place? Wasn't it because you had symptoms, you recongnized them as being symptoms associated with Celiac...
  2. I'm not sure I understand either. You've been sick enough to try a gluten free diet, you started feeling better ("all gas/distended belly and overall uncomfortablness left immediately"), you ate a little bit of gluten accidentally over Christmas and got sick again and now you think you should go back on gluten? Why? You've had a positive dietary response...
  3. Pardon me for butting in here. When I make something with a breaded coating I leave out the xanthan gum. I've found that it gets thick and gummy like you discovered. I use xanthan gum in almost all my baking, but not for oven fried chicken or fish (or the fried onion rings I made).
  4. If your baby can tolerate rice, he should be able to tolerate it in different forms - rice cereal, rice pasta, plain cooked rice, etc. Just read labels to make sure there isn't wheat/rye/barley/oats in there too.

    ARCHIVED Naturopathic Doctor

Thanks for clarifying, Sophiekins. I agree that there are some "naturopaths" that are quacks. I have been to one. But I've been to two that are fantastic - both graduates of Bastyr. I guess we are fortunate in WA state! Anyone considering seeing a naturopath should first ask some questions by phone about their philosophy and views on treatment - and...

    ARCHIVED Angry Boy!

My 11 year old son was having behavior issues last year at home and was having problems with concentrating at school. His teacher wanted me to get him tested for ADD. His grades were not as good as they should be and he was starting to be disruptive in class. I opted for going to the pediatrician to look into food sensitivites first. He tested negative...
  7. We feed our dog primarily raw meat. (Frozen first if there's any chance of parasites.) He gets a few scraps of cooked meat, bits of cheese, bites of fruits and veggies and anything that happens to fall on the floor that he gets to first. People food is generally not appropriate for dogs.
  8. Children are the best thing to ever happen to someone who wants them. If you want kids, then have kids. You'll never regret it. I have biological children and I have adopted and they are all a blessing. If your sister doesn't want any more, then she shouldn't have any. (And it is Sinenox's right to be childless - no one should have kids if they don't...

    ARCHIVED Naturopathic Doctor

Really? Where does that place my Naturopath? She graduated from a major university with a degree in microbiology and then graduated from Bastyr University (Naturopathic college in WA state) and has gone further in her licensing than most ND's and can legally prescribe things like antibiotics, thyroid meds, etc. Our insurance recognizes her as a primary...
  10. I get the Enjoy Life chocolate chips at the health food store - but they just got them in about 6 weeks ago. You might have to order them online, but believe me, it will be worth it.
  11. Try Enjoy Life chocolate chips. They're the mini size and soy-free (gluten-free and dairy-free too). I stir them in when I make the cookies and they are extra yummy. These are my family's favorite cookies.
  12. I put the chocolate on BEFORE baking and they worked just fine. I did this for Christmas (although I used chocolate stars) and they were fabulous. I shared with family at Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and they were all eaten by gluten-lovers.
  13. I have psoriasis and did have psoriatic arthritis. They both went away when I eliminated wheat/gluten, dairy, eggs and soy. The psoriasis has come back though, even though I am gluten-free. I don't eat soy at all and eat very limited amounts of eggs and dairy (a little butter, a little goat cheese). No problems with the psoriatic arthritis though. I...
  14. My thoughts and prayers were with you today and will continue during your recovery. I'm sure you'll have a quick one.
  15. We have an Original Roadhouse Grill in our town opening up any day. I rarely eat out, but am wondering if anyone has experience with this chain. I looked on their website, but couldn't find anything about catering to people with food intolerances or allergies. I'm waiting to hear back from my email. Anyone know anything?
  16. Congratulations! Don't worry... be happy! I had 3 healthy babies, now healthy kids before I found out what was "wrong" with me. You'll do fine - but DO stick with the diet.
  17. For me, dairy has been harder to give up than gluten. I will cheat with butter and goat cheese sometimes, but wouldn't think of cheating with gluten. I have cheated so much over the holidays that I realized that I have to go back to strictly casein free too, so I can relate to your grieving. I can't have soy, so it's harder to find butter replacements...
  18. I also had genetic testing that shows I don't have either of the main Celiac genes. And I DO have major problems with gluten. I was diagnosed with Colitis and then IBS when I was in college, so I'm sure that non-celiac gluten sensitivity can cause trouble in the intestines. I had horrible problems with hypoglycemia for years also. And I gained weight...
  19. First of all, welcome to the forum. I hope you stick around and ask lots of questions - there are many people here who will be able to help you out a lot. I'm glad your little girl is feeling better and has gained weight. These ARE positive tests - many doctors consider positive bloodwork conclusive. Many people on here will verify this. The...
  20. This sounds like my cranberry meatball recipe. For a really unique and yummy taste try using a 12 oz jar of salsa (mild) instead of the tomato sauce. (And I use ground turkey.) I took these to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at the request of both families (mine and in-laws). They always get eaten right up! Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions...
  21. We're all sugared out around here, well, maybe not my 9 and 11 year old boys, but the rest of us are. As I'm thinking about New Year's Eve, I'm wondering what kind of appetizers or treats I could make that would be yummy and not sweet. I've thought of a smoked salmon ball, "Chex" mix, vegetable tray and pecan and date rolls. Does anyone have any other...
  22. Great decision! I hope it works out well for you and that you get some clear confirmation.
  23. I love New Year's Eve. We all (4 kids and hubby) go to my best friend's house for a "Bunco" party, more food that should be allowed in one house and other games after Bunco is finished. At midnight we shoot off fireworks and make toasts with sparkling cider. She invites other friends and relatives too, so there are at least 20 kids ages 2-20. It's all...
  24. Our house is almost totally gluten-free. My hubby was/is the hardest. I've been wheat free for almost 11 years and the kids (now 15, 13, 11 and 9) grew up mostly eating gluten-free foods without knowing it. The only gluten foods I've had in the house (except for a stint where I tried spelt ) are wheat bread and cereals. Last November I went totally...
  25. I have psoriasis (not gone, but much better on G F, CF, SF), psoriatic arthritis (just like RA, but blood tests negative for Rheumatoid factor - in remission for a long time now) and a kidney disease called Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome (also in remission).
