ARCHIVED For Parents With Small Children...
Guhlia posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Let me start by saying, she is fine! There was no major damage done. I just wanted to share this with everyone so it doesn't happen to anyone else. We were in Florida this past week staying at a hotel with a swimming pool. In order to get to the pool we had to go down a floor in the elevator. We were getting ready to go swimming last Monday and Tori (my two... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies - Samoas
Guhlia replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There's a recipe for Thin Mints on TopSecretRecipes.com... Perhaps someone could adapt it? I think it's one of the recipes you have to buy, but they're not expensive. -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookies - Samoas
Guhlia replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh my gosh, if you manage to recreate those cookies, please please PLEASE share your recipe!!! I would do almost anything to have a Caramel Delight again. -
ARCHIVED Frozen gluten-free Taquitos?
Guhlia replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you e-mail Heinz they will send you a gluten free list. The Delimex taquitos are included on this list. Some are gluten free, some are not, so please be careful. The gluten free list that they'll send you will have the code numbers for safe foods. It makes it pretty easy to tell. I know the plain beef in the corn tortillas are safe, but I'm not sure of... -
ARCHIVED Best Place In The World For A Celiac To Travel To?
Guhlia replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I know you asked about places other than Orlando, Florida, but I just wanted to add my two cents. I'm actually on vacation in Orlando right now. Woo-hoo! Anyway, I can't imagine having a better time than this anywhere else. The food has been excellent. In the Disney parks they have seperate kitchen areas for allergen orders so there's a much lesser risk for... -
I love all Kinnikinnick baked goods. Their sandwich bread is the best I've had thus far and it makes a killer grilled cheese sandwich!!! If you want to make your own, I highly recommend the Gluten Free Pantry's Favorite Sandwich Bread.

ARCHIVED How Likely Is It?
Guhlia posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed with Celiac three years ago. My husband reluctantly went gluten free after glutening me with his bread crumbs about a year ago. He has since remained gluten free in the house, but occasionally he has glutenous goodies when he goes out. He works from home so he spends the majority of his time here at home. Lately I've been getting more and... -
ARCHIVED Shopping
Guhlia replied to pinktulip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I shop Walmart and mail order. Wal-mart's GV brand labels gluten free so I buy mostly GV brand products. For my mail order products I use shopbydiet.com and kinnikinnick.com. Both are great! -
ARCHIVED Wine Barrel Contamination?
Guhlia replied to faegan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was warned of this by a wine maker. It was either Kendall Jackson or Robert Mondavi, I can't remember which. They explained it to me when I called inquiring whether their wines were gluten free. I, however, have never gotten sick from wine. Well, not gluten sick anyway. -
ARCHIVED Very Upset
Guhlia replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tot Loks... You actually need a key to open the cabinet doors. Do a search for them. They are WONDERFUL!!! You can just take the key to bed with you then. On the other hand, perhaps you could lay out some safe, gluten free snacks at night that are tasty for a 7 year old, some of her favorite nutritious snacks. -
ARCHIVED Just About Out Of My Noodle.. Help?

ARCHIVED I Have To Vent!
Guhlia replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just a quick note on cinnamon rolls, I highly recommend the ones from Kinnikinnick. They're awesome. All of your daughter's classmates will be jealous. Poor little thing... It makes no sense to me why they think they need to reward kids with food. Stickers, erasers, pencils, and the like make MUCH better rewards in my opinion. Perhaps you could offer... -
ARCHIVED Proctor & Gamble - Avoid This Company- Their Are Good Alternatives
Guhlia replied to Deanne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone out there have A LOT of spare time on their hands? It would be funny if someone got a note from their doctor and requested every single product and color available. Just to be a pain, of course. -
ARCHIVED How Common Is This In Families? Should I Tested?
Guhlia replied to wahoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From the research I've done, it appears as though there is approximately a 1/20 chance of first degree relatives of a Celiac developing Celiac at some point in their lives. My doctors told me that my daughter should be tested every five years, even if asymptomatic, just to catch it early. Take that for what it's worth. I would definitely recommend getting... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Honeymoon Suggestions
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
That's soooooooooooooooo exciting! Congratulations! You know what, I didn't want to plan my wedding either... I actually had my sister in law plan most of it for me. I just couldn't handle anything back then (I wasn't gluten free). Planning just didn't sound like fun to me. So, you're not alone in that boat. Definitely at least consider Florida. It's beautiful... -
ARCHIVED Turkey Legs At Walt Disney World
Guhlia replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The turkey legs are really greasy, but they should be gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Honeymoon Suggestions
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We went to Disney for our honeymoon. We weren't gluten free back then, but we've been to Disney many times since. There are tons of beaches within driving distance of Kissimmee. There are also a lot of fun, walk-around-holding-hands type things to do there. I highly recommend doing the Cirque du Soleil. It's amazing. Disney is one of the easiest places to... -
ARCHIVED Pillow For The Gassy
Guhlia replied to angel-jd1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Go to their website. They have undergarments for sale that use the same filtration technology! He he he... -
ARCHIVED Working With Rice Flour
Guhlia replied to caprissaltlick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the same flour combination for every recipe I make and I haven't had a failure yet. I make my flour mix in bulk so I have it on hand later. I use 3 parts white rice flour, 2 parts potato starch, and 1 part tapioca starch. For every 1 to 1-1/2 cup of flour mix I add 1 teaspoon of xantham gum. Like I said, I've found this to be pretty much foolproof,... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Body Shape
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't. My feet are still painfully bony. Though, I'm not sure I've done nearly as much walking lately. I'll have to see how my feet do at Disney. Maybe they have gotten better and i just don't know it. -
ARCHIVED Everything Comes Down To Poo
Guhlia replied to Nancym's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff

ARCHIVED Gluten And Dairy Free At Disney World (photos Of The Food)
Guhlia replied to sleepingbean's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Disney is the best place in the US for food allergies/intolerances. They are so sensitive and understanding. All of the chefs seemed to be VERY well versed in allergies and they were super careful. I didn't get sick once when we went there last year, either time. -
ARCHIVED Can It Really Be This Simple?
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you shown him your Enterolab results? I know most doctors don't put much weight in Enterolab, but some do. Perhaps he will accept that as an official diagnosis. It's worth a try. If I were you, I'd probably go back to going gluten free since it's solidified in your mind. You know you have a problem with it, there's no need to prove it to your doctor... -
ARCHIVED Alcohol Free+ Gluten Free Beer
Guhlia replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm pretty sure there isn't a non-alcoholic gluten free beer. -
ARCHIVED Can It Really Be This Simple?
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ah... Jerry... It IS that simple. It's a real shame that doctors don't get it, but sadly, most of them don't. Thank goodness your dentist had half a brain and mentioned something to you. Would you have ever found us otherwise? I'm sorry that you're feeling crummy right now from eating gluten, but I'm really glad that you've discovered the length to which...
