ARCHIVED Parents Begging Not To Do Biopsy On Dd
Guhlia replied to LauraW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all, welcome to the board! I think it's probably normal for you to be questioning the necessity of having this procedure done. After all, she did have positive bloodwork. If this were my child, I think I would order the Enterolab tests and go from there. The Enterolab testing should be enough to convince your family AND it will give you piece of... -
WELCOME!!! I used to get hiccups a lot, and they were violent. Now, since going gluten free, I rarely get them.

ARCHIVED Where Do You Shop?
Guhlia replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do all of my daily shopping at Wal-mart. Their prices are competitive and their store brand (GV) clearly labels gluten-free. I've found so many things that I never thought I'd have again thanks to GV brand. The best part is, they label whether or not the product is made in a facility that processes wheat so I can be relatively sure that there's little to... -
ARCHIVED Very New To This And Needing Some Help!
Guhlia replied to diva-u-k's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How long have you been gluten free? Hair loss can be a symptom of nutritional deficiencies. Perhaps your gut hasn't healed enough to absorb enough nutrients yet. You may want to try taking a multivitamin. Make sure it's gluten free, of course. Also, if your shampoo or body products contain gluten, you could be getting them in your mouth and constantly glutening... -
I always have cold hands and, too a lesser degree, feet as well. I always thought it was due to poor circulation, though I never really thought about why I had poor circulation. Hmmm...

They claim Halls is gluten free, but there are several people on here that won't touch them.

ARCHIVED Wedding Gift Ideas For Brother And Fiancee
Guhlia replied to NicoleAJ's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Perhaps the luggage set with a few honeymoon "treats" packed inside? Maybe some massage oil and some candles or something else inexpensive yet romantic. That way they're getting exactly what they want, but you're adding your personal touch to it. -
ARCHIVED Mission Corn Tortillas
Guhlia posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just got a HUGE bag of Mission corn tortillas to make sandwich wraps with. How should I store them? How long should I expect them to keep? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Beer
Guhlia replied to pegom1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had both New Grist and Bard's Tale. We can't get Ramapo here. Bard's Tale is my favorite. It's a very rich, full flavored hopsy beer. My non-gluten-free DH and I both love it. New Grist is a lighter beer with less flavor and body, more like a light beer. I prefer the Bard's Tale. -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie "cupcakes"

I'm thinking they may stick, but you could do an experimental run and try it on two or three w/o the liner to see what happens. -

ARCHIVED Any Suggestions On Cookbooks?
Guhlia replied to micaldrew's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Anything by Bette Hagman is worth having. You can search by author on amazon .com. The Gluten Free Kitchen by Robin Ryberg is excellent. Also, The Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids cookbook by Shari L. Sanderson. Those are all good. You may also want to check out Living Gluten Free for Dummies. It's one of the yellow and black dummies books. There... -

ARCHIVED Celiac And Eating Disorders?
Guhlia replied to majicbunnies's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am anorexic, though I seem to be doing very well with things since the Celiac diagnosis. I was down to 78 pounds (I'm 5'3") and miserable. I think my main problem was that my stomach always protruded and I looked pregnant. Though I still have the swollen belly now, I've found it easier to cope with now that I have a name to explain it. I always thought... -
ARCHIVED My New Favourite Snack..
Guhlia replied to num1habsfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am soooooo drooling after looking at those pictures... I have one Kinnikinnick bagel left and I know there's no way my two year old will let me get away with making a sandwich out of it. She's totally addicted to bagels and cream cheese since it's a special treat for her when I break down and buy some. -
ARCHIVED Velveeta
Guhlia replied to panda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
regular Velveeta is gluten free. Always check ingredients though every time you buy something just in case they have changed since last time. Kraft will clearly label gluten as wheat, barley, rye or oats. If modified food starch or vinegar is from a glutenous source, they will put that in parentheses. I feel very safe using Kraft products. I've never had... -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie "cupcakes"
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That sounds delicious. Or a gluten free 'nilla wafer on the bottom. There's a fabulous recipe on topsecretrecipes.com. I just replaced the cake flour with gluten free all purpose flour. emcmaster, I have no clue how you could make them dairy free. Do you have a pumpkin pie recipe that you use? If so, I would just use that recipe, but cut back on the... -

ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie "cupcakes"
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
They taste and feel exactly like pumpkin pie, but without the crust. They're slightly more firm than a pie, but you really can't tell. They certainly don't have the consistency of a cupcake. IMHO they are better than pumpkin pie. Let me know how the cream cheese icing tastes on them, if it's good, maybe I'll try that next time. -
It really depends on how much damage was done to your body pre-diagnosis. It could take a few days to heal or it could take a few years or there could be too much damage to ever heal completely. Definitely remain 100% gluten free and hopefully this pregnancy will go full-term with no problems. BTW, I'm very sorry to hear of your losses. I will keep you in...
