  1. In San Diego we have the highest costs of living and the lowest salaries. Jobs are very few and far between; it's majorly overpopulated. Sorry, I'm bitter . We do have good weather and the ocean though.
  2. I also enjoyed the environmentalism aspect and it's great not having to carry a messy plastic grocery bag full of full of random sloppy tuperware containers and baggies and such. I might pick up a laptop lunchbox in the future. The whole visual presentation of that one is really appealing, even though I only make lunch for myself
  3. My Mr. Bento arrived yesterday . The thing is huge!...and heavy when packed! Definitely not good for young kids. I had fun packing it though. Didn't do anything fancy...just carrots, broccoli, hummus, rice, beans and grapes. I really wish it had a handle so I could just carry the thing instead of lugging the big carrying case around. Ah! Oh well....
  4. Today: B - two slices of Applegate Farms organic smoked turkey and two Corn Thins S - grapes, carrots, broccoli and hummus L - brown rice with pinto beans S2 - last night I mixed together almond butter, coconut, cocoa powder and agave for a really yummy and healthy fudge type thing. D - ? I just got a Mr. Bento, so lunch was really fun...
  5. Are you sure its casein? Pretty much all bc pills contain pharmaceutical grade lactose, which is really pure (I'm told) and should be free of casein. I'm casein intolerant but can handle small amounts of pharmaceutical grade lactose.
  6. I think it's a really good idea. I like juicing fruits and veggies with lots of ginger. The ginger adds a nice flavor and calms abdominal pain as well
  7. There are a few threads on this. Here's one of them: Open Original Shared Link It's interesting research, and I think there's something to it, but I also think most people here would disagree with me.
  8. Hi. Sorry you're struggling. What is your living situation like? Do you live with roommates? I'd say you would do best in an entirely gluten-free household, but I understand that might be difficult in college. What kind of food do you eat during the day? I'm guessing you don't eat a lot, and feel deprived and hungry by the time you go to bed at night...
  9. Popping in: Yes. I tried raw goat cheese. It was okay for about 4-6 weeks. The symptoms built up slowly, until there was no doubt in my mind that I could no longer tolerate it. Be careful if you start to experience cravings. Okay popping back out.
  10. I wonder if it's the soy flour in the Trader Joe's pancakes. It seems as though soy flour gives people "glutening" type symptoms. This appears to be a problem regardless of whether or not the person is intolerant to soy. Soy tends to accumulate, so even if the product didn't bother you the first time, it can eventually. Granted, this is all just...
  11. Anyone interested in this subject should pick up "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. It's a great read (I could not put it down), and quite relevant to this topic
  12. msg is hidden in many processed foods (such as chicken broth). It doesn't need to be blatantly disclosed on the label. Many times "flavorings" or even "broth" actually means msg.
  13. Well, my weekend involved lots Chebe pizza and some gluten-free brownies , but I'm finally starting up yoga again and I'm getting in some running/cardio and weight training. I'm trying to do some research on the connection between yoga, thyroid function and weight loss. It's pretty interesting. Anywho, my eating plan for the day: B - two hard...
  14. I've never had a problem with Arrowhead Mills, but I do sometimes have problems with buckwheat.
  15. Here's an article that explains how an organic food menu can cost less than a processed food menu: Open Original Shared Link Whole organic foods really can be cheaper than pre-packaged processed foods. Farmer's Markets and co-ops are great places to get whole, natural ingredients. Food from local farms is usually less expensive and more nutritious...
  16. Some of my new favorite stuff from Traders: Spanish White Beans and Veggies Spanish Lentils and Veggies the small bowls of organic brown rice Indian Rice Biryani All of that can be found on the shelves near the soups. It's great stuff to take to work or to travel with
  17. Rice Krispies - Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice or Erewhon Rice Twice (for something sweeter) Corn chips - most are safe (I eat Whale Tales) Soft tortilla shells - most corn tortillas are safe (I eat Food For Life Sprouted Corn tortillas) Chicken nuggets - Ian's, Wellshire, Bells and Evans (check ingredients, as these brands make gluten versions...
  18. Yes, they are gluten-free. I've eaten them just based on the ingredients being pretty straight forward, but I just checked the website to make sure. In small print at the bottom it says "wheat-free, non-gluten, low-fat" etc. etc. etc.
  19. If you eat breakfast at buffets, make sure to ask about the eggs. I've heard scrambled eggs at buffets sometimes contain flour. Hard boiled eggs are usually a safe bet while on vacation. It might help you to pack some food in your suitcase, if you can. Others will chime in with more answers. Have fun
  20. Hi everyone - I feel like a creepy lurker person just reading every so often but never posting. I don't have anything even remotely interesting to say - just wanted to pop in and say hello. Looks like there's all sorts of interesting info being shared here again. I'll have to do some reading to catch up
  21. Okay I just ordered a Mr. Bento. The Ms. Bento looks way cuter, but I think I need all four compartments LOL. I'm sort of freaking out over the fact that I just spend $40 on a lunch box but I'm excited! In 5-9 days I will be joining in on the bento trend!
  22. That was the plan, but the I think the FTC stopped that from happening, or they're trying to at least. I hope the merger doesn't happen, becuase I don't want to lose Henry's (a store owned by Wild Oats)
  23. Yesterday: B - Glutino cinnamon raisin bread with almond butter L - Trader Joe's "Spanish White Beans with Vegetables" and some brown rice S - rice chips with salsa *must stop eating chips* D - spinach, avocado, tomato, lentils, balsamic vinegar Okay so at least dinner was healthy
  24. These look really awesome Has anyone used the Mr. or Ms. Bento containers? Do the plastic containers in the Mr. Bento or Laptop Lunches get kind of icky after using them for a while? That would be my only hesitation, but the Ms. Bento lavendar jar with the carrying bag just looks sooo cool LOL. I want to order one
  25. Well yesterday I ate almost an entire bag of Terra potpuorri potato chips. Today I got on the scale and I was two pounds lighter. (I do think something was wrong with the scale LOL). Today: B - 1/2 canteloupe, two eggs with 1/2 heirloom tomato sauteed in coconut oil L - Sunshine organic veggie burger patty S - young coconut (the whole...
