ARCHIVED Flax Seed And Yeast
Mango04 replied to maribeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi - adding more flax, almonds, walnuts and dried fruits to your diet all at once can definitely cause some bloating and upset stomachs (even for someone who isn't celiac). Those things can be healthy and beneficial, but if you've just recently cut out gluten, your gut probably hasn't healed enough to be able to tolerate all that. Are you just starting... -

ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie "cupcakes"
Mango04 replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You could. My favorite pies are raw vegan pies and the crusts are made out of nuts. Too bad I have nooo idea how to make them though (sorry for my incredibly pointless, unhelpful response ) -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Favorite Naturally Gluten Free Foods?
Mango04 replied to Mtndog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
blueberries, kiwi, bannanas, strawberries, mangos, carrots, spinach (I know, I'm weird, but I really like spinach lately ), lentils, rice, garbanzo beans (mostly in the form of hummus), chicken, cashews, almonds, avocado, cucumbers.... I don't think I truly appreciated any of these foods until I stopped eating gluten, but now just looking at my list... -
ARCHIVED What (in Your Opinion) Is The Best Place In The World To Travel
Mango04 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Anyone been to Thailand? -
I like it. I don't think it's a problem to leave the big stuff like pizza and bread on there. I mean, how many times do we make a big fuss to the waiter about gluten crumbs and CC, and then end up with a big piece of bread next to our salad?

ARCHIVED Does This Contain Gluten?
Mango04 replied to breann6's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hate to confuse the issue, but isn't maltodextrin gluten-free in foods, but possibly not gluten-free when it's in medications and supplements? (someone correct me if I"m wrong) -
ARCHIVED Lemon Poppyseed Cake?
Mango04 replied to hineini's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have a recipe but this is a really good (gluten, dairy and soy-free) mix: Open Original Shared Link It's muffins, but I'm wondering if it could somehow be made into a cake . The same company also makes a plain lemon cake mix. -

ARCHIVED Rice Krispy Treats Recipe ?
Mango04 replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I dont' have the exact recipe but I know it works if you mix together Erewron (sp?) rice crispies, gluten-free brown rice syrup (Lundberg I believe) and gluten-free/cf chocolate chips. It's yummy if you mix in some other gluten-free cereals too (such as gluten-free corn flakes) -
ARCHIVED New Here...all Children Have Celiac
Mango04 replied to jayshunee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, welcome . Don't hesitate to go gluten-free yourself! It can't hurt. I'm really glad your children got diagnosed. This means they now have a great chance to get heathly again I know it seems overwhelming at first, and while it is a learning process, eating gluten-free will become much easier in no time. I second Carla's suggestion to start... -

No, I think they think we're really BRILLIANT. hehe we know all these magical words that aren't even in the dictionary... -
Kinnickinick makes me ill as well. I really don't think it's a gluten issue. I notice the products (while they taste great), often contain quite a few ingreidients I can't even pronounce. I think there's some sort of chemical or preservative or something in the stuff that bothers me. That's my theory anyway

Hi peeps Sorry I haven't been posting much, but I've been reading (well, trying to keep up). I've been thinking about you all. I'm fascinated by the scientificness and SO excited about the progress being made. (so so so excited...sorry I just can't come up with a more meaningful or appropriate response ) I'm starting to wonder if I should start... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Soup Recipe?
Mango04 replied to Lexis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like making lentil soup. Here's the really lazy version (sorry I don't really measure, but you don't really need to): - Chop up a bunch of veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, zucchini etc. etc. etc) - Add about 1.5-2 cartons of Imagine Veggie or Chicken broth to a large pot. Bring to a boil and add veggies - Add some herbs (italian... -
ARCHIVED Lindt Chocolate
Mango04 replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
By law in Australia the label would have to say "gluten" if there was gluten in it though. The label on mine doesn't indicate gluten, just a risk of nuts and soy I dunno... -
I'm thinking about doing a similair route, but in the opposite direction (from Cairns to Sydney). Am I nuts? I don't need much "gluten-free food" so to speak. Most pre-packaged stuff is out of the question for me b/c of other intolerances and such. As long as I have access to fruit, veggies, eggs, peanut butter and corn thins I'm good to go . I def....

ARCHIVED Lindt Chocolate
Mango04 replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I just ate practically an entire bar of Lindt 70% dark chocolate and besides getting all shakey and dizzy from the caffine and the sugar I didn't have any reactions LOL. I have it right here in front of me and it does say "may contain traces of soy lecithin, milk hazelnuts and almonds." I really don't seem to have any gluten, dairy or soy type reactions... -

Hi Dingo. Cute pic. Are you feeling okay? -
I could be imagining this but I think I've read that there's some sort of connection between celiac disease and pheumonia? Can anyone tell me more about this... Thanks!

ARCHIVED Coping With Celiac Disease Emotionally
Mango04 replied to Sissy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For anyone who finds label reading daunting, it might help to fill your grocery cart with as many single- ingredient foods as possible. If you have no other intolerances, you can literally go crazy with unlimited amounts of fruit, vegetables, meats, eggs, dairy, rice, beans, oils fresh herbs etc. etc. etc. The options with these ingredients are endless... -
