ARCHIVED Coeliac Versus Other Diseases
Mango04 replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I honestly think that when you're first diagnosed with celiac disease, it can seem very difficult. There is a huge learning curve and it takes a long time to figure out which foods work best for you. However, once you figure it all out, I think it's a great disease to have. Seriously, I feel great all of the time. I don't have to take medication, I don... -

This is what I do. I modified the recipe found on the back of the Bob's Red Mill flaxmeal bag. I'm sure you can improvise a bit. I'm really not an expert when it comes to baking, but these turned out great. 2 cups Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour 3/4 cup flax meal 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon xantham gum 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon... -

So I've been wondering lately about those small, organic farms that deliver produce to your door each week. I'm wondering if this would be a good option for some people, since you would know exactly who is growing your produce (a small, local organic farm), and I'm thinking they would probably be able to tell you about anything that they spray on the crops... -
You can flavor spring water with lemon. Sliced oranges in water tastes great too (it just gives it a hint of flavor). For something even better, add sliced oranges and sliced cucumbers. Chill the pitcher overnight. It's much more flavorful and easier to drink if you don't like water, but this way you're avoiding the artificial stuff in the no-calorie...

Propel has a lot of artificial ingredients in it. Fortified water can be fortified with stuff that isn't natural, so if it makes you sick, you might as well avoid it. I think this might be one of those things that bothers lots of people, but most gluten eaters who are less in tune to these types of things just don't really notice.

If you are still having problems, you might consider completely eliminating dairy, at least for the time being. I would not eat yogurt or almond milk. Yogurt is dairy and almond milk is a processed, mulit-ingredient food that usually contains synthetic vitamins and carageenan. Carageenan is an additive that can be very hard on the digestive system. You...

ARCHIVED Amount Of Gluten You Eat...
Mango04 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does make sense. The thing is, your body has never been completely gluten-free, which means you probably have to eat A LOT of gluten to feel an effect. Don't assume damage isn't constantly being done just because you don't always feel symptoms. If you ever go completely gluten-free, you'll probably start to notice that small amounts of gluten will... -

It does "stink" hehe. I think my skin is abnormal or something. Tom's gave me major problems too, but most people use both brands with no issues. Oh well... -
ARCHIVED Travelling To Exotic Places
Mango04 replied to Huey Vincent's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I haven't traveled to those places, but I would. It's hard to be gluten-free in the US becasue we rely so much on processed food. I can't imagine a place where it would be impossible to find things like fruit, veggies, rice and meat. You can always get international dining cards to communicate with the local people about food if you need to. I'd imagine... -

I recenlty tried Adidas too. It worked well for about a week or so, then my skin turned bright red and started peeling off! -
ARCHIVED Carrageenan
Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's exactly how I feel. I've been making consious, organic, nitrate-free health choices that have been FULL of carageenan...aka poison! Soooo annoying! -

I like Food For Life sprouted corn tortillas with mayo, natural gluten-free turkey, spinach, one carrot stick, one cucumber stick, salt and pepper rolled up (heat the tortilla first). I make them in the morning and then wrap them in foil to eat later. You could roll the turkey and veggies in green leaf lettuce if you don't want to use a tortilla. Hummus... -
I HATE the dentist! I was just there and I explained what happened to me the last time I was injected with that anesthetic stuff. She said she absolutely HAD to inject me with it again. Going without was not an option. She gave me a weaker version and then complained that she had to "tip toe" around my teeth because I would not let her numb me more....

That Krispy Kreme hamburger sounds almost as gross as the new pizza sandwich at 7-11. They take two slices of cold pizza and use that instead of bread on a sandwich with all sorts of lunch meats, lettuce, mustard, mayo.... yuck! -

Ditto on the Ecco Bella mascara. It doesn't irritate my eyes at all (and most things do). I have a tip though....if you can find it in the mini size - buy that one! I get the mini size for like $5 and it lasts for a few months. I like to replace my mascara every few months anyway so I figure it works out pretty well. -

Thanks for the info Bronco! I will be staying away from the saltine crackers Does anyone know where Beau Jo's gets it's crust? They say they get it from an outside source. I'm curious about the ingredients (if it's chock full of soy and dairy I will be sad). -

You should try Cause Your Special pizza crust mix. It is AMAZING. Just like real pizza crust. You can make it ahead of time and your daughter can bring it for lunch. Chebe crust is awesome too. -

The commercials that really irked me were by some fast food place - Jack in the Box I think. The slogan was "Bread is Back" I was diagnosed during the Atkins craze, so not eating bread was the norm...and then that commercial came out.... -

I would recommend the starter kit as well. You get smaller versions of most of the products, but it's everything you need - even a cheesey instructional dvd -

I've tried ALL of them LOL. The one that works best for me so far is Aubrey Organics E Plus High C. It's a roll on. Aubrey Organics makes a spray that's supposed to work pretty well too. Everything else I tried (Tom's of Maine, Nature's Gate, Crystal Stick etc.) made me smell worse. A lot of people have great luck with the crystal stick. It did...
