ARCHIVED Yay! Chicken Fried Steak!
Mango04 replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well I'm kinda sorta from Syracuse, in the sense that I was born there. So I know about things like....half moons? Isn't that a Syracuse thing? But the Southern stuff...that is all lost on me. I always thought chicken fried steak was just some nasty part of the chicken fried up (I don't know why I thought this) -
ARCHIVED Yay! Chicken Fried Steak!
Mango04 replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I always thought chicken fried steak was made with chicken I've obviously never had it. I think I saw it once, in some sort of cafeteria, but the meat was not very identifiable Hmmm....it all makes sense now -

I've also been seeing a lot of that plastic that's made out of corn. It's supposed to be really environmentally friendly, but I wonder if it's a problem for corn sensitive folks. I've seen cups and containers and stuff like that. They do like to make it really obvious when the plastic is made from corn though, so I don't think it'd be a hidden thing. ... -
ARCHIVED Mission Hard Shells
Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Honestly, if the ingredients are simple and appear safe and if it says gluten-free I would eat it. I can't speak from experience because I don't buy that brand but if it's just corn I'm sure it's safe. -
ARCHIVED No Bake/cook gluten-free Dinners/lunchs
Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you're worried about the blender maybe you should stay away, or I've seen them for like $15. -
ARCHIVED No Bake/cook gluten-free Dinners/lunchs
Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've never heard of really bad cc issues with the rice pouches. I'm talking about the ones in the freezer section. Only one ingredient: frozen rice. Did you previously use gluten in your blender? Is it glass? I think you if you can clean it really well it should be okay. I put organic turkey, lettuce, avocado and mayo in a corn tortilla and roll... -

Mango04 replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
smoothies, fruit, veggies, tuna, hard boiled eggs, sandwiches with corn tortillas, lettuce wraps. you can buy a pre-cooked chicken (of course check ingredients) and keep it in your fridge to add to salads and stuff. sunshine veggie burgers and ian's chicken nuggets (both microwavable). those rice pouches that you microwave and a can of lentils. you can... -
ARCHIVED Going To A July 1st Pizza Party
Mango04 replied to francelajoie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Why must they add gluten to the US version? That just doesn't make sense -
ARCHIVED Splenda
Mango04 replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would suggest that you do some research on Splenda. Read about the potential dangers from a variety of sources and decide if it's something you are okay with. I'll only drink water and occasionally tea. Maybe once a month I'll drink a soda, but I can only tolerate the organic all natural brands. Any more soda than that and I feel horrible. Flavored... -
ARCHIVED Confused?
Mango04 replied to melhopkins02's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
High fructose corn syrup is really bad for you. If it gives you headaches and makes you feel bad you should avoid it. Actually all people should avoid it anyway. Food companies use it because is so cheap for them. Here's some info: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Mayo Alternatives?
Mango04 replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think salad dressings work well on sandwiches (or just olive oil and balsamic) I also really like raw cashews in a blender with dill, itailian herbs, salt lemon and water. It makes a good spread, dip or dressing. -
ARCHIVED Ha Ha Ha Hehehe

You can still eat chocolate...many dark chocolates are DF. 5 months is a long time! That's horrible. -
ARCHIVED What Kinds Of Restaurants Have You Eaten In Successfully?
Mango04 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have the best luck at vegetarian/vegan/organic type places. There have been exceptions, but most of the time those places are more knowledgeable about what goes into their food. For example, there's an organic mexican restaurant I really like. Since they cater to vegans (as well as meat eaters), they have to know which dishes contain any traces of animal... -
You can do one part vinegar to four parts oil, wisk it together. That's all You can add salt, pepper and herbs too if you want. I actually don't always measure. When I'm in a rush in the morning I just pour a little olive oil and a little balsamic (white balsamic is good) into a container and then shake it up and bring it to work with a salad. You can...

Hi Armetta, I've seen quite a few recipes on www.whfoods.com that appear to be corn, dairy, soy and gluten-free. I was specifically looking at the Rosemary Chicken, Dill Salmon, Apple Tart and Curried Lentils. You might want to look into those. I'm not a corn-free expert but I don't do dairy or soy. I hope you feel better soon!!!!

ARCHIVED I Thought Vodkas Were Gluten-free
Mango04 replied to emcmaster's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Vodkas are considered gluten-free becasue they are distilled. The distillation process removes the gluten protein. It's kinda like distilled vinegar. -

Hi Rinne - If you're interested in the Metabolic Typing Diet, there's acutally a book called just that. It's pretty interesting...you might want to check it out. -
ARCHIVED Mouth Blisters
Mango04 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks Rachel. I was too lazy to search for my "I hate the dentist" thread so I posted here instead. That's how afraid I am of the anesthetic too. I almost start crying everytime they inject me with it They think I'm scared of the pain from the needle even though I've explained over and over that that's not what bothers me. That's really... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Mango04 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think the Metabolic Typing Diet is much more credible than the Blood Type Diet. Granted, I haven't read the blood type diet book...but anyone who's interested might want to look into the Metabolic Typing Diet as well... -
ARCHIVED Hiar Products?
Mango04 replied to Mandy F.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Mouth Blisters
Mango04 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Does anyone know if blisters like this are normal after dental work? Not to change the subject but...we rarely stick to a subject so... I know I'm really sensitive to the anesthetic they used on me yesterday. I keep telling them and they don't believe me. I have blisters all over my mouth right now. I'm afraid if I tell them about the blisters they... -
I would just send a friendly response explaining that white bread and white flour are both made out of wheat, and maybe include a link to the forbidden ingredients list...just for the sake of other Celiacs who might try to eat there in the future.

I often douse my food in olive oil (It's a good alternative to butter). It never makes me sick.
