  1. post fruity and cocoa pebbles, dora stars, island berry crunch, trix (read the label, i think they might have changed ingredients.) health valley rice crunch-ems. i think they make a corn one, too.
  2. trying to figure this out is really difficult-----i keep seeing DQ2 and DQ8 referred to as both alleles and genes.
  3. i found this definition of allele in encarta allele al
  4. tiffany---that study looks like it labels the DQ gene according to which alleles it has. that is the first time i have ever seen a different number given to the DQ2 gene depending on which alleles it has. (2.2 or 2.5) it looks like this could explain why not everyone with the DQ2 gene gets celiac. i just kept looking up info on the DQ2 gene until i was...
  5. DQ2 and DQ8 are two different genes known to be connected to celiac disease. if i understand the literature right, two people can both have the DQ2 gene but have different alleles that code the gene.
  6. i have waited weeks to get the results of my sons blood test---he is IgA deficient, so he needs to have the IgG tests run. the doc called me today and said the hospital had ordered a total IgG serum, but they had ordered the Ttg IgA----which is worthless for us. i don't think our hospital has ever ordered these tests until i brought our kids in, so i guess...
  7. hi terri-anne, it is possible that your son could have had a wheat allergy when he was very young and then outgrew it----but i tend to agree with ursula that all 4 of your children could warrant testing for celiac disease. their list of combined symptoms, plus the severe reaction your son had when he was little look a little suspicious. our ped gi runs...
  8. we use health valley cream of mushroom.
  9. DQ2 and DQ8 are the only known celiac genes, so far. if you feel better gluten free----be gluten free.
  10. i've got this bread rising in the oven also----can't wait to try it!!
  11. as a mother of 9 and step-mother of 2, i think it is great that you want to have kids. it is totally foreign to me when i hear of someone not wanting any children. i'm really impressed that you want to have them at a young age. it seems like so many couples get married anymore and wait years to have kids. good luck!!!!
  12. definitely NOT the same thing----the each enter a different body opening-----if your doing this to check for celiac, you want the endoscopy.
  13. i just had a scope done recently and i don't remember a thing. three of my kids have had them done and didn't remember a thing. the doc even let me stay in the room during one and watch the whole procedure. with JD and a Ttg that high---i'd say it is a safe bet that your child has celiac disease. me, personally, i would have the scope done, but i know...
  14. we tested our whole family when it was suspected in one of our girls. our ped gi ordered the tests for all of us and we discovered that 3 of our girls have celiac. i know that some docs order several tests, but our doc only orders the one that is most accurate. he orders a total IgA serum test, and he orders the Ttg antibody test. one of our kids is IgA...
  15. kimberlee-----i do not have celiac, some of my children do, but i have the same problem with garlic and onions that you do. i can taste it into the next day, and i get nauseated when i eat them. i think it is mostly onions for me. i love ranch dressing and i like onions, but i make it a point to try and avoid them as much as possible. i guess i thought...
  16. the Ttg may or may not show you anything because your daughter is already gluten free, and some very young children don't produce Ttg antibodies until they are older. my youngest was really small like your daughter is-----she was just about the same weight as your daughter is when she was around the same age as your daughter. she is still only 28 1/2 lbs...
  17. it looks like you don't have celiac disease----but since your father has it, i would suggest you continue to be tested periodically for the rest of your life.
  18. we bought ours from gluten free.com---can't remember the price----i bought a whole case and i have been so glad to have them!!
  19. i think it is mosty a CYA statement, but as of yet, i don't buy things for my girls if they say "processed in the same facility as......"
  20. if your daughter likes hot dogs, you can cook one in the morning and put it in a drink thermos with the hot cooking water. it can be eaten plain with ketchup, or with a gluten-free bun. jello jigglers are fun. nutella on rice cakes.
  21. i had a changing table---twice---and hardly ever used them. i preferred to sit on the floor and change my babies. i LOVE pacifiers and went to the effort to train some of my babies to take them----only one of my children did not give the "papoo" up on her own before she was a year old. (and like carla---i didn't worry too often about rinsing off pacifiers...
  22. EG+FC----how lucky can you be-----your boyfriend's MOTHER is cooking gluten free for you----how wonderful, hang on to that guy----if for no other reason than his mother must be great!LOL!!LOL!! glad to know the tinkyada freezes well---i need to get back into making some freezer meals.
  23. i have a couple of recipes for them, but i haven't tried them yet.
  24. if she had a positive blood test at this age and positive results from going gluten free, i'd say she has celiac disease. i notice also that the biopsy was inconclusive and not negative. request copies of the blood work and the lab results for the biopsies-----you might want to have a record of them. after being gluten free for awhile, you can have her...
  25. i don't think ANYONE could convince me to drink a pint of lemon juice and a pint of olive oil----probably the only "flush" i would get from it would be the flush from it coming back up!!!! my sister has an autoimmune liver disease and will eventually need a new liver. her GI has told her NOT to do liver flushes.
