  1. probably better tell us what globus sensation is. LOL!
  2. neither my husband nor myself have celiac, but we have 3 girls with celiac and one boy that carries the gene. our ped gi told us he needed to be tested yearly, or sooner if he developes symptoms. this is probably what you need to do. we do not know which of us carries the celiac gene, but we hope to find out soon.
  3. srokie---you are probably the quickest to forgive person on this board. my mother always told us that it is just as bad to take offense as it is to give offense-----and you didn't seem to take much offense at all of us jumping on you-----what a sweetheart you must be!!
  4. i have an older model vita-mix. i'll bet i could grind my oats into flour with it----my blender just isn't cutting it. i go through enough flour with the size of my family that my grinder should pay for itself.
  5. liz---it grinds it just about like the stuff i used to buy. i cannot grind it super-fine like you can get at an asian market, though. i haven't ground any brown rice, yet, but i intend to.
  6. i grind my own rice flour. i have a nutrimill grinder. there was a problem with it when i first tried to use it---it took two tries to get things worked out, but they were wonderful to work with and the shipping back and forth was really quick. it grinds a little slower than i was expecting, but i think that is because rice is so hard. it does a good...
  7. karen---i was sitting here this morning thinking the same thing about srokie---that we neede to start all over with a proper introduction! welcome srokie!
  8. i have 9 children----6 girls, 3 boys. three of my girls have celiac---my 11yr. old, and my 15 yr old identical twin girls. my 17 year old son carries the celiac gene, but does not have celiac disease. the gi has told us that he will need to be tested every year, or sooner if he develops symptoms. we are waiting for gene test results on the rest of the...
  9. isn't there date on all packaged items that we should be able to look for and gurantee that the label is new?
  10. lisa, through prothethius lab, our ped gi ordered celiagene and celiaplus.
  11. i hope that this will make sence-----but i wonder if celiacs can get some symptoms that are caused by another celiac symptom, rather than by the celiac itself. for example, my youngest celiac daughter has complained for quite some time (even before diagnosis) that her legs would feel numb. we never knew why. i have learned that constipation can cause...
  12. not me lauralee!! i didn't see that doc!!LOL!
  13. yes!!----you can have celiac disease and not be allergic to wheat. one of my girls has had food allergy testing done and she is not allergic to wheat. (or barley, or rye)
  14. we just had our youngest daughter's teeth fixed----there was even more work needed than the dentist realized. she had about 11-12 teeth that needed work, 6 of them were child versions of root canals and have stainless steel crowns on them now----the four lower front teeth and two molars. she also had staining and decay on her two top front teeth, right about...
  15. i don't know if this info helps any, but we have recently discovered that gluten seems to cause headaches in one of our celiac daughters.
  16. the statement that NO celiacs can have soy is just plain wrong. my girls have soy and milk and we have had their Ttg levels tested---more than once----and their levels, which indicate an autoimmune response, have dropped. if what that doc said was true, my girls levels would not have dropped. i'm guessing maybe she is up-to-date on some celiac info---...
  17. the citrucel could possibly cause you gi symptoms------i get gas and bloating and gas pains sometimes when i take those kind of things----and i don't have celiac.
  18. the best tests to have done are a total IgA serum, and a tissue transglutaminase IgA. you could always ask your doctor to just humor you and run the tests----but i think going to a ped gi is probably a better idea.
  19. health valley also has a gluten free cream of mushroom soup and also a gluten-free cream of chicken. they are not concentrated, so i thicken them sometimes when i use them.
  20. i think that if you were IgA deficient that your test results would not come back normal, they would come back extremely low. i have a son that is IgA deficient. his test cam back saying .1, while the rest of us were .6, .7, .9, etc. Ttg levels indicate intestinal damage---it appears that you do not have intestinal damage. malabsorption can be caused...
  21. i know about those thought of denial----i had them when my 3 girls were diagnosed------and we only had one "iffy" biopsy between the 3 of them. they were diagnosed with positive bloodwork. since being gluten free, one daughter's nausea went away, one daughter's rashes cleared up and the other one did not have obvious symptoms, although since being gluten...
  22. your son is not IgA deficient, he just has levels that are a little low. my son is IgA deficient and his level is <6. it looks like your son does not have celiac disease according to those tests, but if being gluten free helps him, it really doesn't matter if he doesn't have celiac, just keep him gluten free. as far as the other tests, less than ...
  23. there is no way this guy could know that you will get celiac disease in 5 years. there is also no way that he could know that you don't have celiac at this time unless he ran the celiac blood tests on you----but since he is not a doctor, i'm sure he didn't run them. and, is he the one that told you that if you got celiac you would end up with surgery to...
  24. maureen, can you get your gi to order the tests on your children? my kids' ped gi ordered the tests for our whole family even though we are not all his patients.
  25. if you really want to get rid of your oral thrush, ask your doc for diflucan. you don't want this to spread to your esophagus. two of my kids have had esophageal thrush.
