  1. DX???(diagnosed ex-husband???) LOL!!LOL!!LOL!! ds is--dear son dd is--dear daughter dh is--dear husband DH is--dermatitis herpetiformis LOL is laughing out loud there are a lot of these that people use. sometimes you can guess them by thinking of the most obvious words that would go with whatever is being talked about and see if they match...
  2. through promethius lab it is called "celiagene".
  3. is that the total IgA serum level?
  4. i know that they used to think that celiac was outgrown because so many kids went through a "honeymoon" period through their teens where their symptoms diasappeared----and then often different symptoms started so that celiac was not recognized as still being the problem. i've also heard that the damage contiunes even thought there are no longer symptoms...
  5. i wonder why some doctors refuse to run tests that parents request---kind of irritating. the fact that celiac is genetic is reason enought to do the test, symptoms or not. i tested all of my kids when we suspected one of them had celiac and we discovered that 2 more of them had it also.
  6. can't hurt to give it a try----reflux symptoms can be difficult to recognize sometimes.
  7. people with celiac disease have an increased level of zonulin----above the normal population and those celiacs that are gluten free. zonulin is like the gatekeeper of our intestines and in celiacs, the gates get stuck open.
  8. i don't have celiac----just 3 of my girls do. two of them also have reflux problems that do not seem to be related to their celiac disease. i was hoping that their reflux would clear up when they went gluten free, but it didn't. my youngest daughter (no celiac) also had really bad reflux and had to have surgery for it right before she turned 10 months...
  9. food feeling like it is getting stuck is a reflux symptom. i would have the scope done if it were me. i just recently had one done and was told i had severe reflux esophagitis----but my symptoms did not seem that bad. an upper gi series is probably not going to give you a whole lot of information. your symptoms sound like they could be caused by any number...
  10. it is not common---but it does happen---especially if you are IgA deficient and a total IgA serum was not done as part of the blood work.
  11. allison, i think i have heard that the antacid meds can cause the runs if you take alot of them. i just recently had a scope and was told i have severe reflux esophagitis. i knew i had reflux, i've had it for over 15 years----but i did not realize it was as bad as it is---my symptoms just didn't match. i am now on prevacid as are two of my celiac kids...
  12. celina, maybe you could keep her up late and feed her something around 11:30. i have done this myself before surgery. it is difficult for me to go too long without eating because i get low blood sugar.
  13. i have some of that in my mouth right now.
  14. when my girls were first diagnosed----i wished it was me instead of them. i had several meltdowns early on. i remember standing in walmart trying to keep from crying as i read labels trying to find things they could eat. we've come a long way in 11 month-----we have had ALOT of successful baking and are able to find MANY things that are safe to eat. you...
  15. since the protein in wheat is what is so damaging to celiacs----it makes me wonder how many more people will become celiacs if this process works and they create wheat with MORE protein. maybe half of the world is just barely tolerating the protein already there----increasing it could push them all over the edge.
  16. one of my 3 girls did not have any obvious symptoms.
  17. what type of tests did the doc run? a TTg is specific for celiac disease, but AGA is not as specific for it. since celiac damage can be patchy, damage can be missed by biopsies. 2 of my girls did not show positive biopsies (the 3rd wasn't scoped). their TTg levels have dropped on the gluten free diet. the doc said that they probably did have celiac...
  18. steve, we actually discovered our girls had celiac by chance. one of my twins had been sick and had had a biopsy for reflux---but continued to be sick after treating the esophageal thrush that we discovered---we didn't even suspect celiac. while we continued to test for other things on her, i took her twin sister to the allergist because of some rashes...
  19. turkey breast ham mashed potatoes and gravy (the packet gravy from the turkey with flour wasn't very good---i made a separate gluten free gravy for the girls--i should have had that) sweet potatoes green bean casserole topped with funyuns relish tray with ranch dip jello homemade gluten free rolls mom brought some wheat rolls apple cider pumkin...
  20. we got the first set of paperwork from the celiac study we are involved in through the university of california, irvine. no one else in the family has developed celiac disease since our original tests almost a year ago---but the tests confirmed what we knew---that our girls have celiac disease even without positive biopsies. i had a long discussion with...
  21. well---i'd definitely want to cure my girls if it were possible---our ped gi says that they are looking to see that in the future (though no one is working on it yet). if dr. fassano can make his zonulin antagonist work to treat celiac disease, i'll be as close to the front of the line to get it as i can. i would much rather have the option of learning...
  22. i think they are right----intolerances don't involve the immune system and that is why they don't show up with normal allergy testing. celiac disease, however, involves the immune system because it is an autoimmune disease, but it is still not the same type of immune system involvement as food allergies or other food intolerances.
  23. health valley makes a gluten free cream of chicken soup.
  24. your original test results DON'T show that you are positive for celiac disease---they just show that you have raised antigliadin levels, which can be caused by conditions other than celiac disease. the TTg test is the best blood test for celiac disease and your levels were normal. if it were me, i would want to investigate further before resigning myself...
