ARCHIVED To Test The Family?
chrissy replied to rat toe's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
after we suspected celiac in one child---i had the rest of my kids tested---we discovered that we have 3 children with celiac instead of just the one we originally suspected to have it. i would strongly recomment your parents test your brothers adn themselves for celiac every few years. -
ARCHIVED Reliability Of Blood Tests In Toddlers
chrissy replied to covsooze's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
liz----an endoscopy is not torture for them, they don't remember a thing. but, if you are wary of it, you can always just try the diet and see if her growth improves. -
ARCHIVED I'm Tired Of Living Like This....
chrissy replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I mostly shoot kids.....okay, that sounds sort of bad and funny at the same time. even in your depressed state you gave me a giggle!! hope you're feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Our First gluten-free Birthday Party Went Well
chrissy replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
yeah!!! we are doing a birthday party this saturday for samantha. samantha does not have celiac, but since we almost exclusively bake gluten free, we will probably be making gluten free cupcakes. hope our party is as successful as yours. -
ARCHIVED Mom Of Newly Diagnost Toddler Seeking Help
chrissy replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
amy----i have 8 children at home, 3 of which have celiac, and we cook all meals gluten free. it is just easier that way. i do buy crackers, cold cereal and bread for the non-celiac family members because it is less expensive for me that way, but all homemade muffins, cookies, cornbread, etc., are made gluten free. we keep a separate glass bowl with a lid... -
ARCHIVED Just Have To Share...
chrissy replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
with those red curls----how can not help but want to let him get away with EVERYTHING!? -
ARCHIVED Oats?
chrissy replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
oats are fine---they do not contain gluten. the problem is that almost all oats are contaminated with gluten. some people react to oats, but then, some people react to corn and rice, too. -
ARCHIVED Upset About What Colleauge Did To Me!
chrissy replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
when your supervisor deals with this situation, i think that the child also needs to be involved. not for the child to get in trouble, but for the child to know that what the therapist told him to do was wrong and that she is being reprimanded for it. it sounds like these kids have seen some adults do some really bad things in their lives------wouldn't it... -
ARCHIVED More Deaths For Caesarean Babies
chrissy replied to gfp's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
i think i'm pretty old fashioned because i prefer having a male doctor. i know that there are other women who would prefer a female doctor or a mid-wife. i think that each of our opinions are shaped by our life's experiences. if i had been into "alternative" medicines and had successfully home deliveries, i'm sure that i would feel that home-birthing... -
ARCHIVED More Deaths For Caesarean Babies
chrissy replied to gfp's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
personally, i would never have even considered a mid-wife or a home birth. 2 of my children would have died before delivery if there had not been a monitor on me full time. they were in trouble, but if someone had only been listening to heart tones periodically, they might not have realized how much trouble they were in. i think a couple of my other children... -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Or Prometheus?
chrissy replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
our ped gi's office told me that promethius lab is the only lab she knows of that is able to find exactly what it is they are looking for-----this was when my son was being tested with his IgA deficiency. -
ARCHIVED More Deaths For Caesarean Babies
chrissy replied to gfp's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
i've delivered 9 children (eight different deliveries). first was a normal vaginal delivery with no complications. the second was a double footling breech presentation----and i delivered her vaginally and it nearly killed her---she had a prolapsed cord, one arm got stuck on my pubic bone, her head and arm were jammed in the birth canal pressing off her... -
ARCHIVED Many Questions
chrissy replied to KrisT's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
i did not change out our cookwear. i did buy a new toater for the girls and GLUTEN FREE is written in black marker on it so the other kids won't use it. we keep separate, labeled jars of peanut butter, jam, mayo and miracle whip. we buy squeeze bottles of condiments when we can to help avoid cross contamination. i cook all meals gluten free for the family... -
ARCHIVED Entrolab Or Prometheus?
chrissy replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
we tested my son through promethius because is is IgA deficient. they did gene testing and whatever different testing it is that needs to be done because of the IgA deficiency. it cost us $720. at first our insurance rerused to pay for it, but i had the doc send a letter, and they later covered quite a bit of it. -
ARCHIVED The Question Of Spelt?
chrissy replied to KrisT's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
KrisT------some people that are allergic to wheat can tolerate spelt---maybe that is what you read? i think there are people that think spelt is gluten free because of that----they confuse wheat allergy with celiac. i have a friend who is allergic to wheat and can eat spelt. -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Lab Blood Work
chrissy replied to mumseyh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
my son was tested by promethius because he is IgA deficient. we are enrolled in a celiac study and all of our family will be gene tested. i really want to know who has the genes----then i will know who needs to be tested on a regular basis to see if celiac has become activated. -
ARCHIVED Any Really Good Cake Recipes?
chrissy replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
we have never used a gluten free cake mix. we just use our old favorite recipes and replace the flour with a gluten free blend and xanthan gum. -

ARCHIVED Gentian Violet - Does Anyone Remember This?
chrissy replied to Matilda's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis

ARCHIVED Blood Work, What Is The Name Of The Genetic Test?
chrissy replied to dahams04's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
it is extra and can only be done by certain labs. we had my son's blood work done through promethius since he is IgA deficient. the tests they ran were called celiagene, and celiaplus. -
ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2
chrissy replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
gfp----you've GOT to tell us more of this story------you've only teased us! (but on another thread so as not to hijack this one) i think alot of people might be helped by how you were able to figure the woman out. i think documenting everything and getting copies of any and all medical records is a really good idea. -
ARCHIVED Is It Really Possible To Avoid Trace Amounts?
chrissy replied to rutland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
we re-tested our kids after 6 months of being gluten free. one of them had managed to get her TTg levels down to the normal-----which means her blood tests did not show celiac disease. this tells me that we managed to avoid even minute amounts (not likely), or that mintute amounts don't harm her when she is following the diet as well as possible. my other... -
ARCHIVED Just Need To Vent And Complain A Little About Inconsiderate, Intolerant And ......
chrissy replied to sparkles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
do you think she purposely was being mean and meant to have nothing for you to eat, or do you think that she is just one of the MANY people who just doesn't really understand the whole scope of celiac disease? if she is mean, i really can't see a reason to go there again-----if she is just "uneducated", you might get alot farther with her if you tell her... -
ARCHIVED Oatmeal
chrissy replied to jackie4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
