  1. the anti-gliadin results can be caused by a few other conditions. if she's game----going on the gluten free diet can't hurt a thing and might improve her health.
  2. abnormal cells could mean a number of things. it could mean there are increased lymphocytes, like you would see with celiac. it could mean there are eosinophilic cells, like you would see with food allergies. it could also probably mean that there is damage. the microscopic findings on the cellular level are much more significant than the initial findings...
  3. my baby's esophagus was getting ulcerated by the time she was 8 months old. she had really bad reflux that could not be controlled by any medication. she was refluxing almost 25% of the time. she does not have celiac.
  4. monica----not a nosey question-----one of my twins had a biopsy before we even suspected celiac, the other had a biopsy because she had positive blood work, and the 3rd one did not have a biopsy. we have a great ped gi that i have an awful lot of confidence in. he didn't feel the need to do a biopsy on molly after we had 3 kids test positive, and he doesn...
  5. 3 of my children have celiac disease. we also know that one more of our children has the celiac gene.
  6. jacinda----if you are going to have him tested, don't put him gluten free until after the tests are done. at our house, i cook gluten free for the entire family----it's just easier that way. we do keep some crackers and cereal around for the other kids, but i have removed all wheat flour from the kitchen. i can't help you with the dairy and soy issue-...
  7. i have a friend with a wheat allergy----and she can eat spelt without the symptoms that wheat causes her. i have told her she should be tested for celiac. she could be one of the ones that does not have obvious symptoms. i know that people can be allergic to wheat and not be gluten intolerant, but a wheat allergy just kind of raises a red flag to me.
  8. we do this alot. i put the pork roast in the crock pot frozen before i go to bed on low, with a little bit of water. in the morning, we add cream of mushroom soup and onion soup mix and turn it on high for several hours. this is for sunday after noon lunch when we usually cook it. i haven't tinkered with it enough yet since we have gone gluten free--...
  9. your daughter's symptoms sound an awful lot like GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) to me.
  10. how would millet flour in the bag compare to the amount of millet ground from whole millet----hope that made sence? i have a bag of millet flour.
  11. yeah!!! i had considered trying to make my own gluten-free mixes for the easy bake oven.
  12. yes, they do endoscopies on babies---my daughter had and endo with biopsies at 8 months old. she had really bad reflux and was failure to thrive, also. she had a fundoplication done right before she turned 10 months old. your son definitely needs to see a ped gi. ask to be put on a cancellation list----sometimes you can get in earlier than your scheduled...
  13. my girls were diagnosed by blood tests.
  14. i don't think that you will get a "normal" reading if you are IgA deficient----however, a total serum count would tell you for sure. one of my kids is IgA deficient. everyone else in the family either tested high (the ones with celiac) or in the normal range. ian tested abnormally low.
  15. my son is IgA deficient and the normal tests just didn't work. i think that if you were Iga deficient, it would have been noted on your test because the IgA score would have been abnormally low on the test they did.
  16. if testing proves it to be effective-----i'll be the first in line to get it for my girls!!!

    ARCHIVED Writing To Old Doctors

remember that alot of docs learned for years that celiac was a rare disease and probably didn't know too much about it anyway------so most of them were probably doing the best they could. i thnk that a nice, informative letter explaining what you have learned could be really helpful to some doctors. write it in a way that sounds like you are greatful that...
  18. sounds like you have a GP that is on top of things!
  19. if this enzyme is combined with the medication to regulate zonulin-----this could possibly make eating for a celiac almost normal.
  20. don't be too hard on yourselves-------some of the shifing in weight is just part of the normal process of aging. as we get older our weight shifts to different places. i am also really bothered by the bigger belly and flatter rear end----but ifyou look around you, you will probably see that ALOT of people over 40 are leaning toward this type of weight shift...
  21. sooooo.......what are some brands that are GOOD?
  22. what was the brain talk forum?
  23. this must be a popular article-----some one on another board i visit posted this, also!
  24. i think that having ANY autoimmune disease increases your risk of having other autoimmune diseases. however, our ped gi told us that if the gluten free diet is followed, that a celiac's chance of getting other autoimmune diseases returns to the same risk as the rest of the "normal" population.
  25. they are doing more than just feeding her---there is therapy and classes and medical monitoring. we don't have a team set up to work with her locally yet, and her weight and health are still so close to the edge that she could back slide easily and quickly without the right kind of help (and end up right back in the hospital)-----so pulling her out of the...
