ARCHIVED Manufactured gluten-free Products
jaten replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
4getgluten or anybody....where is this thread? Has anyone noticed the change in Pamela's Pecan Shortbread cookie? Not just the box, the cookie recipe has changed -
Great article!!

While browsing (gluten-free) restaurant menus online, I just had one of those...."Why didn't I think of this sooner?" moments, and thought I'd share. First, let me say, I do not eat out often. CC is a big issue and not often worth the risk to me. But I work out of town and sometimes, like most of you, am in a situation where I don't have my own food...

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Brand Of....
jaten replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kinnikinnick Brown Rice Bread was my favorite but then Wild Oats in Memphis stopped carrying it. Gluten Free Pantry sandwich bread mix was my new favorite bread. As of yesterday, I have a new favorite, Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread mix. Yummy, yummy, really yummy. -
ARCHIVED What Unusual Concoctions Do You Enjoy?
jaten replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey Mango04, that fish taco sounds really good. What else do I need to know if I want to make some? Yummmmmm! Mommida, mashed potatoes wrapped in lettuce??? What a peculiar combination of texture. Seriously, how do you keep the mashed potatoes from squishing out when you bite into the lettuce. I mean lettuce takes a little force to bite through... -

Well, there ya have it...I've not heard of fish tacos before. What kind of fish do you use? Is it like a beef taco with fish. I bet it would be really good with a side of fried okra -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life
jaten replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it was quite a shock the first time I opened the bars or the cereal. I was mad at first, but then realized 1)the weight, etc. is listed on the package; no I don't usually pay attention, but it's there; 2) the food tastes good, imo, and they are a dedicated facility. This manufacturer has never caused me to have a tummy ache. That's worth a lot! -
ARCHIVED Fridge For Hotel Room?
jaten replied to teankerbell's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Call ahead. Most hotels are very accomodating. Some hotels don't have fridges available period. They'll tell you that on the front end and you can book somewhere else. Those that do, can place the request on your reservation, and if it's for our medically necessary diet, hotels will usually provide one at no charge. -
ARCHIVED Oats: Who Eats Them?
jaten replied to Ksmith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, my GI said No Oats when he finished testing and diagnosed me in Dec. He said, "Some will tell you they're ok, and they might be, but I'm telling you, no oats for you. You can't risk it." Nuff said for me. -

What???? There are people in this world who from birth don't understand fried okra??? I'm from the South, too, and cornbread dressing and fried okra should never need explaining in any company Gotta admit though, that despite my southern heritage, I've never been a fan of any kind of greens. Question for CMCM: What okra do you get that you... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Is Not That Hard!
jaten replied to chrissy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me cooking/eating gluten-free at home has gotten so much easier. AFter just a couple of months it's already almost second nature for both me and my very supportive, non-celiac husband when we're in our own gluten-free kitchen. So in this respect the gluten-free diet is easy. I haven't had too many pity parties. I'm so glad to know what was making... -
Wow! Last night I used Nini's recipe with chicken tenderloin. This was so very delicious. Finally, the chicken tenders that I had loved so much. Served with Comeback sauce for dipping, OreIda fries, and spinach salad. Can hardly wait for the left overs tonight.

I just have to echo what the plain meat, veggie, fruit, limited starch folks are saying. It's the only way I can have a meal that doesn't hurt my tummy. Yeah, I get tired of it, or decide to add variety with more processed foods, but I always go back to plain. Plain=fresh, not processed, foods.

Community Coffee - Between Roast is my favorite everyday coffee. I also like Millstone, but tend to keep them for lazy wknd mornings. I like Starbuck's, but only regular, black coffee. I don't care for their other drinks. I can't believe we have so many non-coffee drinkers here!! -

I'm not familiar with it. -
ARCHIVED Clan Thompson
jaten replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Munchkinette, as the program is written, there is no way to edit/add an entry. That's one of the shortcoming (imo) of the program. I plan to play around with it this coming week (being in education, I still get Spring Break....yippee). There may be a way to get into the database, but haven't had a chance to look closely. I have the Clan Thompson subscription... -
ARCHIVED Need A gluten-free/df Chocolate Cake Recipe
jaten replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My dh made a chocolate birthday cake for me yesterday. OMG it was WONDERFUL. Let me say it again, OMG it was WONDERFUL. Kroger was out of Pamela's chocolate cake mix, so he saw that Pamela's brownie mix had a chocolate cake recipe on the side. He bought two, mixed both, and put 1/2 in each of two 8" round pans. He just used Pillsbury frosting, but this... -
You said the bread you've made so far tasted a little bland. It is different, but you get used to it if you find a few mixes or recipes that you like. Kinnikinnick breads are good, but you can only find them in the freezer section of a few chains or ordered directly. I haven't found another ready-made loaf that I like. For making your own, there are...

ARCHIVED Kraft Mac And Cheese Shake On Cheese!
jaten replied to Becky6's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband found it at our Kroger tonight !!! I know our Kroger has asked me for UPC #s when I ask them to order something. Vincent, here's the number, maybe your Kroger has it in hiding, and if not, they should be able to get it for you no problem. Kraft Macaraoni & Cheese Cheese Topping UPC # 2100061505 And it is much smaller... -
Jnkmnky, you can do it with any photo editing software. I'm most familiar with Adobe, but if you're on a Windows-based pc, you have access to a program called Photo Editor. Open an image in that program, then from the menu choose Image>Resize. Every program will work something like that, just the menus will be different. We need to know what you have...

ARCHIVED Marshmallow Peeps
jaten replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And I thought Peeps were just for Easter Baskets!?! I'm with Nini, I'll have to rush out and buy some just so I can leave them on the counter, microwave them, fridge them, fry them....after all that torture, I don't know that I can bite their little heads off too. *polishing my PETA badge* (.........................just kidding) -
I thought that was what you meant. I'm sure I just misunderstood another comment.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Yogurt?
jaten replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vydorscope, I also shop Kroger. We may have to compare notes more frequently. For "flavored" yogurt, I buy Yoplait Light. Both the Light and the "regular" are supposed to be gluten free. I have to go slowly with dairy, just re-introducing it, but it seems to not cause any more problems than any dairy. Ok, that's in answer to your question about flavored...
