  1. Yes, I have had three endoscopies. There is no discomfort and no gagging. You'll be pleasantly surprised when it's over and you will wonder why you go so anxious about it beforehand. They use conscious sedation because it's safer than being put all the way under.
  2. Generally speaking, they use what's called "conscious sedation" for an endoscopy.
  3. No, they would not disappear over time. However, we do see instances of remission from celiac disease but it generally returns in time.
  4. Pasta and baked goods would be sources of gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, barley and rye. Doesn't have to be sandwich bread, just anything with wheat flour (or barley or rye flour). That's why I added "or the gluten equivalent" to the two slices of wheat bread formula. "I crave sugar, I crave dairy, pasta, potatoes and baked goods": all of these foods...
  5. Let's back up a bit. When you had your antibody testing done, were you still consuming regular amounts of gluten (Defined by the Mayo Clinic as two slices of wheat bread daily or the gluten equivalent)? CMP (Cow's Mile Protein) can mimic the protein gluten for some people. And we are not talking about an allergic reaction to milk. Different immune...
  6. Good! You had thorough antibody testing done and all of them were negative. I would be looking at NCGS. But I also note you said when you were a baby you couldn't tolerate formula and had to be fed goat's milk instead. As an adult are you consuming dairy (bovine)?
  7. Welcome to the forum, Maa78search! Which antibody tests were run? Many or most physicians will run only the tTG-IGA instead of a full celiac antibody panel. There are a number of celiac antibody tests that can and should be run since the tTG-IGA will miss about 20% of those from white European extraction and about 80% of those from black African heritage...
  8. Then the biopsy results would not have been compromised. Your tTG-IGA score the second time around is a weak positive and reducing or eliminating gluten from you diet seems to have brought improvement in your symptoms. If the biopsy is negative, I would suspect you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) for which there is no test currently available...
  9. Welcome to the forum, melf1905! It is not clear to me from your narrative if you had already discontinued gluten before the endoscopy/biopsy. If you already had discontinued gluten before the endoscopy/biopsy, how much time elapsed between commencing a gluten free diet and the endoscopy/biopsy?
  10. So, are you running into issues with sugar substitutes?
  11. "Here is a copy of the results"? The results you speak of are missing from the post. You only have a few minutes to edit any post before that feature is turned off. This is an anti spam measure. I take it that you feel you may actually have celiac disease even though the one test you have had was negative. Am I correct? What symptoms do you have? It...
  12. NCGS does not produce inflammation in the small bowel and so there are no antibodies produced and so there is no test available for it yet and since there is no inflammation a biopsy could not be used to detect it. Actually, NCGS is kind of an immune system mystery. We don't exactly know yet how it engages the immune system. Apart from GI distress it also...
  13. Thanks for the additional information about what input you were seeking. Artificial sugar substitutes like sucralose do not cause any issues for me. All the natural sugar substitutes like xylitol and sorbitol (all the "sugar-alcohols") give me the toots real bad, except for erythritol because erythritol is almost entirely absorbed before it gets to the...
  14. So, are you asking if artificial sweetners such as aspertame, sucralose, and sorbitol are gluten-free? Help us out here, we need more specifics about what you want to know about artificial sweetners. We aren't mind readers.
  15. We need more than your mother's score. We need the range used by the lab. Where is the negative vs. positive divide? For instance: <7 = negative >7 = positive
  16. Welcome to the forum, Marylee! There is no industry standard range for any of the celiac antibody tests. Each lab uses their own range scale as they use their own formulation when developing the test. All we can suggest is that you supply us with your numerical result and the range (negative vs. positive) used by the lab that analyzed it if you want...
  17. Do you mean specifically gluten free sugar free products or sugar free products in general?
  18. Thanks for the update. So, have you considered NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity)?
  19. No, gallstones would require an ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound or a HIDA scan to detect visually.
  20. The skin of the apple, as is the case with most fruits and tuberous veggies, is where most of the vitamins are. Could you run hot water over the apples to wash off the wax so that you don't have to peel them?
  21. I don't recall the prohibition against "red" food but it makes sense because it could mimic the appearance of blood or mask irritation. Mainly, don't eat anything within 8 hr. of the procedure. But I think you can have a little clear liquid outside of about 3 hr. before the procedure. Nothing after that so that there is nothing in your stomach you could aspirate...
  22. Typo: I typed Igpd but meant to type Igp. Refer to the link I supplied above for more complete names as I have used the acronyms.
  23. I would ask for: 1. Total IGA 2. Repeat tTG-IGA 3. EMA (You might get push back on this one as it is an expensive test but is very specific for celiac disease.) 4. DGP IgA and IgGd (These are not as specific for celiac disease as the others but are helpful when dealing with atypical immune system responses.) Be firm about 1. , 2....
