  1. And the worst part is that it is never listed until you are almost done reading the list. Your reading along very excited because all of the ingredients seem safe and then there it is toward the middle or end "barely malt extract". I just hate it . Nicole
  2. The A&P I shop in is now carrying the Gluten Free Pantry mixes, the Mi-Del cookies, and Bob's Red Mill mixes as well. At first they weren't carrying the Mi-Del animal crackers so I called and asked them if by any chance they were planning on it. They said that they weren't sure how much and of what they would be selling until they saw how well it sold...
  3. Maybe part of the solution is to work on why you would want to hurt yourself. And I mean no disrepect by that at all. My aunt in a compulsive eater and just had the lap band surgery so she cannot overeat. But that doesn't solve why she needs the comfort of food to begin with. Same here I believe, all of the simple meal ideas we come up with does not change...
  4. I just noticed on the Rice Dreams milk box that it contains gluten from barley at 0.002%. Is this unsafe for a Celiac?
  5. Just want to add in that I can also relate to the roller coaster ride. My son went gluten free 2 years ago at the age of 4. It was very hard at first but he really did develop new favorites very quickly. For breakfast he now loves the Vann's waffles. We have them in Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, and original. I just checked them for nuts and it doesn't...
  6. This is a very interesting topic to me. My son is 6 and was diagnosed 2 years ago with Celiac and now possibly with dairy intolerance. Prior to the Celiac diagnosis, we could not go anywhere without his stomach starting up. His issues were constipation but I can pretty much say he has sat on a toilet in every store or restaraunt in NJ. Since being gluten...
  7. My son has been dairy free since Saturday. I know with gluten some people say they saw positive results very quickly. Has it been the same for those of you who need to be dairy free?
  8. I so know that feeling of mourning (as does all the other parents). My son was diagnosed 2 years ago and he was so sad to give up his favorites (cheerios were at the top of the list). But, he developed all new favorites in a very short time. He loves the gluten free pizza I make him. I buy a mix from my health food store and I make it weekly. We have...
  9. You would be surprised how well children adjust. Luckily, my son was 4 when diagnosed so in time, if not now, he won't even remember what gluten tastes like. I really believe it would be a harder adjustment for older people who have a well established taste and are really used to the taste of gluten containing foods. The overwhelming feeling will go away...

    ARCHIVED Rain Forest Cafe

Very funny, my sons have always been terrified too but they always ask to go back. I ask them why they want to go if they are scared. They promise not to be the next time . We went once since being gluten free and the waiter got the manager to help us. He said the best they could do was a piece of grilled chicken with a slice of melted cheese on top...

    ARCHIVED Rain Forest Cafe

We live in Jersey and there is one in Menlo Park. There is also one in disney. There are many others I just don't know where. If you have never been, it is like being in the rain forest. There are fish and rain falling. There are jungle sounds and gorillas and elephants that move and make noise every so often also with lightening and thunder. Very exciting...
  12. I have now e mailed the Rain Forest Cafe twice to see if they can offer any advice on dining there with a gluten free child. They have not responded and it has been over a month. I find that to be very diappointing. For anyone who has been there you can see why children would love it there just from the setting alone, forget about the food because it is...
  13. My son went dairy free as of this past Saturday. The doctor said to give it 2 weeks to see if maybe he is intolerant to dairy. Does that seem like enough time? For anyone who is also dairy intolerant, about how soon after eliminating it did you start to see some improvement? Nicole
  14. [besides, you should go for chocolate, not chocolate candy As a friend of my daughter's once put it, dark chocolate is chocolate; milk chocolate is candy (said with a slight sneer). Discover the higher, purer joys of the good stuff
  15. Is a milk intolerance like gluten for a Celiac. For example, I was looking at the ingredient list on something this morning and it had way at the bottom of the list, "may contain 2% or less of: whey (and then some other things I didn't recognize). Is even 2% or less of whey not aloud? And how about chocolate candy? Is a hershys kiss out because it is...
  16. What are waxy potatoes ?
  17. The ped. gastro doctor said that he wants us to go dairy free with Jacob for the next 2 weeks to see if there is any improvement. I really need some help here as this is a kid who lives for dairy. Can some of you who are dairy free give me some tips as far as which are the best milk and ice cream brands? Are there any subsitutes for yogurt and cheese?...
  18. Probably because alot of doctors will not take the blood test for a final diagnosis. Some think the biopsy is the way to be conclusive and you have to be eating gluten to get a positive biopsy. Nicole
  19. We are suspecting my son has another intolerance other than the ones from his Celiac. I read on line today that they can detect a casein intolerance through the IgG and IgA with an ELISA test. Well I dug out his test results from 2 years ago when he was tested for celiac and it said: IgG 15.6 with normal being <10 IgA 1.1 with normal being <...
  20. Hi, I had the same problem wilth my son who is now 6. He would projectile vomit as an infant and nearly hit people across the room . Then as he approached 1 year the constipation started. It has never stopped. By 4 they put him on Miralax daily which he still takes everyday. Later that year he was diagnosed Celiac and he has been gluten free ever...
  21. He did have an allergy test (RAST test) and all came back negative. But I don't believe that covers intolerances. Nicole
  22. A friend of mine just found out that her son who is going to be 2 next month has some serious food allergies. He is allergic to corn, soy, chocolate, egg, peanuts, and beef. I didn't even know the beef was possible. I know a lot of people on this forum have multiple food allergies or intolerances and was wondering if anyone knows of a good information...
  23. This topic jumped out at me. My friend who does not have Celiac used to crave the musty basement smell while she was pregnant. We used joke that she was going down there just to smell the walls. We thought it was a hormonal thing but we could have been wrong. Nicole
  24. There is a strong possibility that my son Jacob has another food intolerance other than Celiac. I am so worried that it will be milk as he loves milk. I was wondering if anyone has found any good milk substitutes that children have liked. Nicole

    ARCHIVED Ibs

I took him for the Colonoscopy yesterday. Let me first say that the prep was awful for him, vomiting, shaking, just a mess. But anyway, the doctor took about an hour. He then came to me with a bunch of pictures that I get to keep for my records and said, "has Jacob ever been diagnosed with other food intolerances" (he was not the doctor who diagnosed him...
