  1. If there is something specific that your doctor is looking to either find or eliminate via invasive tests, I would want to know, in detail, up front, everything she is looking for! As far as I know, the only food problem she can diagnose via an endoscopy is gluten. She can't tell if soy, casein, lectins, etc. are problems by biopsy. As far as gluten...
  2. psych evals make me very nervous--they almost always want to slap a diagnosis on your child, and prescribe meds. I have heard that if you have a diagnosis that "requires" meds, and you choose not to follow it, they can threaten to take your child away. HOWEVER--it is possible that those are just rumors. Still, I would be very careful. Since you...

    ARCHIVED Stupid Doctor

You know, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that you should report that Doctor to every ethics committee in existence in your state, to the newspapers, to the health insrance company, to the local hospitals, to your local news channels, etc. He was so far out of line, he should lose his license over this.
  4. This is my pizza crust recipe. When I want a really crispy crust, I use a pizza pan with holes in it instead of the 9 x 13 pan, spray it with PAM, and dust it with corn meal. gluten-free Pizza Crust 1 packet yeast (about 1 tablespoon) 3/4 cup milk, room temperature 1/2 cup potato starch...
  5. Whoops, sorry I misunderstood! I would still try the gluten-free diet, as gluten problems rarely show up in food testing. I do recall reading posts from people who were diagnosed with IBD--and all their symptoms were caused by gluten. But, of course, that doesn't guarantee that the same would be true of your son.Still, it is entirely possible that your...
  6. Actually, if your teacher did not give you a copy of the celiac disease and insist that you listen to it EVERY DAY, then they are NOT teaching the Suzuki method, they are only using the book. The method is based on learning to produce the sounds by ear--the idea is that you are supposed to listen to the professional on the celiac disease playing whatever...
  7. My understanding is that Inflammatory Bowel Disease (which is usually called Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, as it is NOT an independent disease, but a Syndrome--a collection of symptoms with no clearly understood cause)is almost ALWAYS celiac/gluten intolerance. Also, easily broken bones might point to a malabsorbtion problem. Is it possible your son was...
  8. The flu shot also contains mercury, which is a neurotoxin, and a significantly worse problem for those with celiacs due to their leaky guts. There are many, many of us on here who have gotten much sicker from the flu shot than we have gotten in years when we didn't get the flu shot. On the other hand, I have also read posts from those who think it has...
  9. Someone should contact Michael J. Fox and see if they can get him on board here. I am betting that he has celiac--i remember reading that prior to his onset of symptoms of Parkinson's, he drank an enormous amount of beer and ate nothing but pizza for months on end.

    ARCHIVED Diagnosed Myself

Be careful with baby foods--I do remember some of them containing wheat starch a few years back, not sure if they still do. Read labels! The BRAS diet rather than the BRAT diet for us (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Soup--but again, read labels--Cambell's chicken broth and College Inn chicken broth contain wheat). Hope you feel better very soon, and...

    ARCHIVED Stupid Doctor

Before you fire him, you might communicate to him that it would be better to pass your diseases on to your children than to have one turn out like him.
  12. Question: I suppose asymptomatic people don't get tested--but if they are asymptomatic, should they be treated? I know that sounds like a no-brainer, but Peter Duesberg has proven that AIDS deaths were caused not by the AIDS virus, but by AZT, which means that not all infections necessarily need to be treated. But do we know that people can remain symptom...
  13. No offense taken! I think you make many good points. There are only 2 things I would disagree with you on! One is on the idea of "depriving" anyone (healthy or not) of gluten. There is nothing in gluten that is necessary for our diet. Wheat, rye, and barley only provide fiber, which can be found in a variety of healthier sources. So I don't think...
  14. When I was tested for Lupus and RA, it took nearly 2 weeks to get the results, but I don't know if that was just red tape or if the test really took that long. I would consider Lyme as well. Most who test positive for Lyme do not recall a tick anywhere near them, and it does masquerade as nearly everything you can think of, including RA, lupus, and MS...
  15. Found it! Here it is: Open Original Shared Link
  16. I "deprive" my family of gluten because when I went gluten-free (and they went "gluten-lite"), I saw an enormous range of supposedly minor problems completely clear up for EVERYONE in the family, problems ranging from occasional to frequent tummy-aches to diarrhea to GERD to eczema to focusing ability to colds to allergies to sleep problems to potty-training...
  17. I use a combination of sour cream, chicken broth, and mushrooms sauteed in butter (I usually add garlic and onion, too).
  18. The connections with ADD/ADHD and autism are identical--ADD/ADHD are considered to be on the "autism spectrum."
  19. Do you think it might be worthwhile to write up some kind of petition, asking Girl Scouts of America to stop selling cookies and to find something else as a fundraiser? We could include research showing how many millions of Americans are affected by gluten (1 in 133 already diagnosed), and how many undiagnosed sufferers there are (average of 11 years...
  20. Can't wait to try--thanks for posting it! Have you tried them yet? How did they turn out?
  21. With apologies to Girl Scouts, I think we should all boycott the cookie sales. We all know that gluten affects far more of us than those who have been diagnosed with celiac. Anybody with a diagnosis of IBS, autoimmune thyroid disease, diabetes, lupus, MS, fibromyalgia, lymphoma, psoriasis--all of these people will be sicker as a result of eating Girl...
  22. I know that at some point last year, she was banned, although I totally missed the whole thing, so I have no idea why she was banned in the first place. I was just wondering if anybody knows how she and her family are doing, and if she might be on another celiac board somewhere? I miss her intelligent and informative posts! If she's on another board...
  23. P.S. I think I know why your blood tests were all negative (or very, very low positive)--it looks like you all went off gluten BEFORE your bloodwork was done--so the triggering factor (gluten) was out of your system by the time they looked for evidence of anything being triggered. But you probably already know that by now. It sounds like you have an...
  24. Amicamom, thank you for the update. I only just saw your original post today, and was worried that, since I had not seen you post since I joined the board 20 months ago, that your baby had not done well. I'm so relieved! I love all your suggestions, and am looking forsward to reading your blog!
  25. Welcome, Cookie! Loved the factory analogy! The hardest part for me was getting through the first few weeks when all I wanted was gluten. What got me through those 2 weeks was--Fritos and a big bag of Guittard chocolate chips! Wheat I can live without, but not chocolate....
