ARCHIVED Reader's Digest Article December 2007 Issue
Fiddle-Faddle replied to angelbender's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hey, maybe YOU'RE the reason they put the article in! Seriously--you put your money where you mouth is--you cancelled your subscription, and let them know why, and maybe that made somebody there actually think. Bravo!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Anybody Have A Good Pan Pizza Recipe?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Use your favorite gluten-free pizza crust recipe, and make the sauce from this: 1 (8 Ounce) Can Tomato Sauce 1 teaspoon Dry Oregano 1/2 teaspoon Marjoram 1/2 teaspoon Dry Basil 1/2 teaspoon Garlic salt Top with shredded mozzarella/provolone and add whatever toppings you like. There are all kinds of copycat recipes out there. THis one comes... -
ARCHIVED Uveitis, Also Called Arthritis Of The Eye
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am convinced a friend of mine has gluten problems--her doctors are talking about fibromyalgia, and she has also been diagnosed with both rheumatoid arthritis and something they call "arthritis of the eye." I looked it up and found "Uveitis," yet another inflammatory, autoimmune disorder of "perplexing and unknown cause." (Yeah, right!) Has anybody here... -

There are THOUSANDS of us who have been through or are going through what you are going through!! It gets much better, and SO much easier! Hang in there, and feel free to ask as many questions as you like! We all did when we first arrived here! I've been here nearly 2 years. There are people here who were diagnosed a decade or two ago, who know... -
ARCHIVED Ate Pizza And Have Some Questions!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This might be misleading--it is possible to be gluten intolerant and not officially celiac simply because the gluten intolerance has not YET destroyed enough villi in the intestine to give an undeniable diagnosis of celiac--YET. By that line of thinking, gluten intolerance may be early-stage celiac. If so, do you really want to keep eating it until you HAVE... -

ARCHIVED Ate Pizza And Have Some Questions!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are many EASY gluten-free pizza recipes. Take your favorite sauce and mozzarella and use it to top gluten-free toast. stick it under the broiler for about a minute, and you have pizza! You can also use corn tortillas--doesn't taste exactly like pizza crust, but my gluten-eating kids and their friends scarf it down anyway. I have posted my pizza... -
ARCHIVED Virulent Cold Virus Has Killed 10, Including Healthy Adults
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Interesting. I'd bet that the infant was not breast-fed, but was given formula: no immunoglobulin in formula, plus high likelihood of dairy issues. I have a friend who was hospitalized last week with pneumonia, and she is only in her late 30's. She would fall under most doctors' definition of a healthy adult--but I suspect she has celiac. She also... -

ARCHIVED Chicken Potpie
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Funny--we had leftover turkey shepherd's pie last night for dinner! I think any gluten-free pie crust recipe would work just fine, but the best I've tried by far is Annalise Roberts' recipe. It's in her book, so I can't post it without violating her copyright, but I can pm you the recipe. Better yet, go buy her book (Gluten-Free Baking Classics). Every... -
ARCHIVED Sanitary Napkins/pads
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, Nyxie, I have most of the diagnoses you have except for the CFS and the adrenal fatigue. But what is PTSD? I feel much more tired when I don't get any exercise or fresh air. I swim and/or walk for exercise, though not nearly as much as I'd like. I never get in more than 20 laps, and usually it's 10 or fewer (I used to do 50), but it still makes a... -

ARCHIVED Would It Be Possible To Have A Prayer Section?
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to have a section just for people to request prayers? And people could sign up for automatic email alerts, so that if someone posts with a real emergency, everyone who signs up would be immediately notified (or as soon as the topic is pinned). That way they could send their prayers, positive energy, hugs... -
ARCHIVED I Need Thoughts From You Mommies!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to BonnieCR's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Skin allergy testing won't show celiac, because celiac is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune disfunction. If you want the least invasive test, you should just try the diet. It also happens to be the most accurate test, but doctors don't like it because #1) they don't have control, you do, which is something most doctors hate and #2) they don't make... -

I wonder if you're reacting to whatever you are cooking the eggs in? The butter, oil, or even the pan itself? I've heard of people reacting to teflon-coated pans, which does make sense to me. Those little flakes that chip off do end up in our food, ugh... -

I eat eggs for breakfast. Breads and cereals don't "stay" with me as long, and I crash an hour or two later, plus I get hungry. Another option is the Japanese breakfast: miso soup, rice, and fish--yum! For lunch, I have salad with chopped fresh veggies and shredded deli turkey or ham. Soup is good for lunch, too. So is leftover rice with the salad... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Outcome Of Tests
Fiddle-Faddle replied to FreeportMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
But the biopsy has such a huge chance of giving a false negative!! The way they bow down to the biopsy like it's some kind of deity, calling it "the gold standard," is just insane. It's like waiting til someone with a peanut allergy actually has a major anaphylactic reaction before diagnosing them with a peanut allergy. Wouldn't it be better to diagnose... -

ARCHIVED Quiznos New Flatbread "sammies" Ok?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to tgsnod's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your best bet is the raspberry chipotle chicken salad WITHOUT the bread (don't let them put it on the salad or you will be eating gluten crumbs, which are enough to cause damage). I have been told that that dressing does not contain gluten and that the chicken was not marinated in soy sauce, but I have not seen the ingredients myself, so it doesn't hurt... -
ARCHIVED Is Self Diagnosis Enough?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to sandworm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You probably already know this, but there is wheat in most soy sauces--and if you are in Taiwan, likely you are eating mostly Chinese food, right? If you eat out a lot, you can ask for no soy sauce in your food. It will still taste good--they will use garlic, ginger, and wine, which is a white sauce (a Chinese white sauce, not to be confused with a French... -

These sound like symptoms of too-high thyroid to me. Perhaps you should have your thyroid checked? It is also possible that when you get glutened, your immune system attacks your thyroid, which then overproduces. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Allergy Shots?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Tigertail's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You might check out the OMG thread on this board, where other causes of gluten intolerance are discussed in great detail, including Lyme disease, yeast infections, and mercury poisoning. I was wondering, if allergy shots come from a multi-use vial, is it possible that they are preserved with thimerosal???? Thimerosal is gluten-free, but it is 50% mercury...
