ARCHIVED Severe Sleeping Issues/depression?
mommida replied to Lycopene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Find some sublingual vitamin B12. Celiacs are notoriously lacking vitamin B 12. You can research Pernicious Anemia for more connection information. There is a blood sugar link/issue with starting a gluten free diet. Whole grains in a diet are said to keep your blood sugar "stable", and that is exactly what gets cut when you start the diet. There... -
Our family's diagnoses was over 5 years ago. We had an appointment with the nutritionist at a hospital in the Detroit area. The nutrionist called and cancelled the appointment. She told us to by Dana Korn's book, Kid's with Celiac Disease, and search the internet. I suggest the book for parents of newly diagnosed kids and this site has been great! ...

I agree with the advice on the blood sugar being a cause of your dreams. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also have a link too. If you need to do simple dream interpretion, give this a try. List 3 adjectives to describe the items/symbols of your dream. i.e. I dream of a dog. I describe the dog as faithfull, adoring, and oh so cute. (My husband...

ARCHIVED Is This A Catchy Way To Start My Celiac Presentation?
mommida replied to runningcrazy's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm sure you were AWESOME! She probably couldn't believe you had sooo much information in your head, she must have felt stupid. From your quotes, she sounded extremely ignorant. Some people are just convinced they know it all and don't have an open mind to learn. Reminds of the commedian that has the "Can't fix stupid" line! -

Hello, Still one of my favorite cookbooks is by Roben Ryberg, The Gluten Free Kitchen. (Keep your old cookbooks and you will learn how to adapt the recipes!) Pamela's pancake/baking mix is my favorite baking flour following the recipes on the bag. Once I have found gluten free products I like and use often, I order in bulk on-line. (amazon) Keep a food... -

ARCHIVED Hello All New To The Site. My Son Is 2 And Has Celiac Disease
mommida replied to joeysmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It definately gets easier. Keep a stash of favorite gluten free candy to "trade" for offers of gluten trash. Sorry you can't have that turns into pick out what you would like from your safe snacks. You might have to grin and bear it when it isn't the healthiest snack in the stash or when the other kids want the gluten free stuff. There are more... -

Maybe you could knit her a nice strait jacket! Maybe a matching muzzle too! On the bright side if there is ever a contest for having the worst monster-in-law, YOU WIN! If your marriage has survived this, you can stay together through anything. My hopes and prayers for a swift and safe move away from her. -

ARCHIVED Think I Am Ready For The "looney Bin"!
mommida replied to psawyer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The vitamin B12 defiency could be a big part of what is going on. Nutrician is a whole system. You need certain vitamins to properly absorb other vitamins. B12 supplements should be sublingual methylcobalamin for better absorbtion. There is no evidence of B12 overdose damage. It could be possible some of the nutritional supplements have an ingredient... -
ARCHIVED Please Help - If I Dont Have Celiac...
mommida replied to blondebombshell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have already had a positive response to the elimination of wheat from your diet. That is a scientific diagnostic test. Sometimes you have to take what you can get for help with this or any disorder. You shouldn't have to feel that you need to justify why you can't eat wheat. It seems to me that Celiac/DH/gluten intolerance have suffered some bad... -
ARCHIVED Vague Symptoms And What Tests To Ask For?
mommida replied to Bojax's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First you have to find a doctor that will listen to you. Check your local Celiac communities for a doctor that is familiar with Celiac. You must continue to eat gluten until the testing is completed. You should have the Celiac blood panel. From there you will need an upper endoscopy with biopsies. Don't you just love how they want to do the colonoscopy... -
ARCHIVED Plaster Of Paris Hand Mold Project
mommida replied to elle's mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I let my kids participate in projects. They don't have topical reactions. Stressed the importance of hand washing. In pre-school I volunteered when I was able and concerned about craft ingredients. Sounds like the teacher is caring and concerned and opened up communication for your dd. -
ARCHIVED Ethnic?
mommida replied to dube's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ireland is supposed to have the highest amount of diagnosed Celiacs. Italy screens all children before they enter school. It seems to be so common in the northern European population, you can order a gluten free Big Mac from the McDonald's in Helsinki, Finland. There are also known genetic links to Celiac and gluten sensitivity. It leads back to the... -

EBglutengirl, I suggest you start looking at the Secondary Addison's Disease chat rooms. You will find all the experts on the medications, some have Celiac too! They can also guide you through working with your doctors and further testing if neccessary. Unless we have some Addy's here that can help. -

mommida replied to dermgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dermgirl, I am so glad you have this figured out. It is very sad that you had to figure it out. Doctors write IBS in the diagnoses line so they get paid. Please try and work with a doctor to rule out any other underlaying cause or consequence of the symptoms. The hardest part now is waiting til after all the testing is done to go gluten free. You... -

My daughter's ped gastro would want his own testing. Your ped saved her from an extra poke. Celiac baby's can react to gluten in breastmilk. There are enough reasons to keep that appointment. -
ARCHIVED Should I Try This To Get Better?
mommida replied to kdonov2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You had better be under a doctor's strict care. Children can not sustain enough caloric intake with neocate and splash, and usually end up on feeding tubes. Most allergic reactions happen because of the proteins. That is why this formula is amino acids. It somewhat proves it is an "allergic" type reaction that is happening. Have you even tried allergy... -

Julie, I am so glad you have your diagnoses! Keep your gluten free yummy stash! It will blow your mind how many times your child will be offered food treats. Make show you have something in there that is totally awesome, and better than what has gluten in it. Melblondin, Good luck with the testing. Just remeber genetic testing can still give you... -
You can add your body's response to the diagnostic proof. If we had a dime for every negative Celiac blood test!!?
-
A Celiac panel can determine if you are successful with the diet. Some patients udergo another scoping during this check up. (This is for you and your doctor to decide.) If you still aren't feeling well, your symptoms should guide the further tests. I would suggest that you have your vitamin and nurtient levels checked. Request a copy of the results...

ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms And Eosinophilic Esophagitis
mommida replied to Hiawatha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
EE is most commonly thought to have an "allergy" trigger. It can be airborn or from ingested food. There is a proven connection to seasonal allergies for some cases. When my daughter was diagnosed with EE, allergies tests were all negative. She was put on an elimination diet beyond the gluten free diet. You start with the usual suspects, the top eight...
