  1. we do not do business with them as last time I spoke with a rep there they were rude; got differing answers each time I called (which was about 3 times over the course of a year) and their products bothered my husband (celiac disease symptoms). They are also tied in to Celestial brand and they too have the same Customer Service problems. I don't mind...
  2. Who are these two Vikings? Cissie: Hi Other than vodka with cream, what is a person who is a White Russian? Deb
  3. A about a week or so ago my husband has to go to Primary Care Dr. & his is on medical leave. The subsitute doctor is new to the practice. He's showing her the lump on the palm of his hand and she reads his blood pressure and weighs him. He mentions his celiac and she says "No wonder you're so skinny!" He was upset because she said "skinny...
  4. did you go out to eat at all?
  5. somehow it doesn't make sense that you have been telling her the same things over and over and it's either not sinking in (does she have learning disability?) or does she want you to move out so she can bring someone else in your place? Is she crazy like a fox, is my question.....
  6. are you using products that are "wheat free" (which is not necessarily gluten free)? How often do you eat places other than home?
  7. Good luck Jessica (on new position)!
  8. No, would not touch gluten-free food fried in oil in which GLUTEN food was cooked. "The subject of fried foods came up and they said that they were told that it wasn't a concern to fry foods in the same oil as Gluten Foods and label them as Gluten Free." Obviously there were told wrong information from an uninformed source....
  9. RE: marshmallow treats made outside your home Unless the person making them used gluten-free rice krisp cereal, you should question them. Most commercial cereal has the barley malt in them and that's not gluten-free. RE: Whoopie Pies Whoopie Pies - a baked treat found in Amish areas. Two flattish round chocolate cake layers (4" diameter...
  10. I had the same feeling - that it's like being Kosher. I just wish our government (Food and Drug Administration and state and local law) was as concerned with standard gluten-free food labeling and ingredient labeling as they were about the Kosher label. It seems to me that if a manufacturer declared a product to be Kosher and it wasn't, the manufacturer...
  11. 1) Count me as an "unbeliever" prior to learning about what Celiac was. I thought gluten free was just another wack-a-do diet craze. I kept asking myself "Why would you not want to eat gluten?" (See I knew what gluten was at least - a grain protein - knew that from Home Economics classes in school - we were taught that gluten was the 'stretch' in the...
  12. I'd like to mention that with a bread mix you do not need a bread machine to make it (Gluten Free Pantry). You can mix it in bowl; then when thoroughly mixed place it in bread pan, let it rise once for about an hour, pre-heat oven while it's rising; don't knead bread again, just bake it for about 45-50 minutes and you're done.
  13. Karen, I've heard of that method over 10 years ago. A co worker told me about it.
  14. If I can't have Kinnickinnik then I make Gluten free pantry Favorite Sandwich bread mix. Follow directions on box. For hamburger & hotdog rolls I always buy from Kinnickinnick only, I can't reproduce their quality.
  15. ] Yes, you did. Wall Street Journal 12/9/05 issue. I will change this photo when I scan our anniversary photo in.
  16. This photo is of Mike before celiac took him down for the count. He was 21 and extremely hunky. I met him a few years after this photo and he was starting to gain & be "chubby." The photo is of him on a destroyer in the US Navy patrolling the Viet Nam coast, defending an aircraft carrier. They were out in ocean for many weeks and their only...
  17. this is the message I keep getting when I do the photo: You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo
  18. how hard/easy is it to add a photo?
  19. from my husband: doesn't forget about it for one minute.
  20. After reading about the Big Macs I am afraid I'll have to send some of those who know better into the "deglutenizing chamber." I am worried about you guys....I don't even eat McDonalds! I don't know if the spouse to the celiac person has this same situation: my husband is scared of everything new (believe me: everything); to this end I am the one...
  21. Lisa, Let us know results when you get them. D.
  22. Lakeslady see below this typed paragraph for my husband's history with this disease. It couldn't hurt for your husband to go gluten free for a couple of months to see if it makes a difference. It'll take a couple of months to know and it takes a few weeks to get used to learning what's gluten free and what isn't and it's easy to make mistakes early...
  23. I saw Grease on Broadway when it was first out in 1970's. The movie diverted from the original play in a lot of ways and for me the movie was not the "real thing." Grease 2 just underscored how Hollywood can take a good idea an ruin it with additional parts. The Broadway show had the "Sandra Dee" song but also made other references to being naughty...
  24. From what I read about it, it seems like a good solution to the accidental cross contamination potential. I am not certain if Alba is creating this drug AT-1001 to replace the gluten-free diet or to act as a backup for the CC. I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand - sounds like a plan for backing up in the event of CC. Acording to Celiac.com's report...
  25. the report is very irresponsible. it's typical medical talk to dissuade patients from having the best care because THEY don't know the facts about the disease.
