ARCHIVED Communion Wafer
2kids4me replied to linz7997's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You may want to have a chat with the priest. Both children are celiac and we attend Catholic Mass. They have been confirmed by the Bishop with a separate chalice. No pieces of the wafer are added (as is done during preparation of the gifts). The children go up to the Altar and recieve the Precious Blood from the chalice and then Communion procedes for the... -

2kids4me replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
1 egg lightly beaten 1/4 cup milk 1/4 cup cornmeal pinch salt 1/2 cup gluten-free flour mix (I use kinnickinnick all purpose) 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tbsp sugar Mix together until smooth, add more milk if too thick to coat hot dog. Deep fry until golden brown - - then enjoy! [the batter should be thick enough to stick to the "dog", experiment... -
You can print this for him. A testimonial for cc and the effects. daughter has severe symptoms just inhaling wheat dust - from an empty/cleaned grain bin on a farm. Up until that episode, I too thought it was just about eating it. daughter shows outward symptoms so it is easy to tell if she was glutened...son did not show a lot of physical symptoms but...

ARCHIVED You're Know You're A Celiac If...
2kids4me replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
During big holidays you want to be the first one to offer to cook the turkey/stuffing and gravy. Then it can all be gluten-free. You will have dinner at your house or you will transport it anywhere. [its Canadian Thanksgiving here] After one Christmas where family finally tried the gluten-free stuffing - they shied away from it first time cause they... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Or Not?
2kids4me replied to lawstudent's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
and ...at least in our circumstance... it helped our son stick with gluten-free. After 2 years gluten-free the "attitude of a teen" surfaced in our son. Questioning things etc. He started asking "what if" questions: "What if I just had one donut? Would I just have sore legs for day?" (in his mind that would be tolerable in order to have a wheat donut... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Or Not?
2kids4me replied to lawstudent's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just another humble opinion here. Many factors should be considered for a biopsy/no biopsy. We made an informed decision to do the biopsy - on daughter becasue her results were borderline and she had pre-existing autoimmune disease. We agreed to the biopsy on my son because he also had heartburn and the Dr was worried about esophageal damage - he wanted to... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice Or Help! Could My Baby Have Celiac Disease?
2kids4me replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like you have a doctor who wants to be thorough - please work with him and at the same time be assertive. You can refuse the biopsy - explain why - that you feel it is too invasive, that you are worried etc. I read and re-read the post before I replied. You have a child with an as yet undiagnosed condition - i know what that feels like...... Please... -

2kids4me replied to CarlaB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Atropine
2kids4me replied to CarlaB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
atropine has no gluten - it originates from a plant. It is usually used in procedures that require a general anesthetic, it has side effects (different than "complications"). It does affect heart rate. I would aska few more questions - If you have concerns - would the Dr be willing to just use suction instead? or does that interfere with putting the... -

ARCHIVED Trick Or Treating....how To Cope ?
2kids4me replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We have 2 kids that are fine with staying home and handing out candy, one is diabetic and celiac - but they are older now. They help pick out the treats (gluten-free and we know carb count) and then they get to fill their own plastic pumpkins first with their choices. They dress up and delight in seeing all the costumes but staying warm at the same time.... -
ARCHIVED Can You Guys Believe....fish Food?
2kids4me replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
well I had to add a comical note - it seems odd they'd add gluten to fish food when I have never seen a fish grazing on a field of wheat or barley....... maybe it's for farmed fish -
ARCHIVED Ever Want To Shake Your Spouse?
2kids4me replied to IrishKelly's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
well food may get his attention but does "intimacy" appeal to him? Everytime he does that to you - tell him how he just killed any chance of "nookie" (canadian word for intimate) later............ That mentioning food all the time when you deal with a food related illness just negates your mood for the day.............that for him to bite his lip out... -
Sounds like Gizmo has found a wonderful place to call home. Yes, get him neutered ASAP. He is old enough to start spraying. Once he feels like he is on his own turf and there are other pets around - that is when he will mark out his territory. Good luck with the spats that will happen as everyone figues out where they are in the social status of the group...

ARCHIVED Daughter Has Acetone Breath
2kids4me replied to celiacgirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
any person, child or adult that has acetone breath as result of diabetic ketoacidosis is very sick and would be diagnosed quickly - becasue the symptoms would have you in the ER. Vomiting, stomach pain, pale, rapid repsiration, very sluggish, very thirsty / peeing alot and the synptoms would not improve or go away and then come back. There are other reasons... -
ARCHIVED If This Doesn't Beat All . . . .
2kids4me replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree that what she did was incredibly thoughtless and had ulterior motives. But when all is said and done - she does have the "rights" to any photos she took - regardless of who set the lights up etc. I write "on the side" and if I take picture myself, I sign a waiver that states that - if someone else takes the picture - all I have to do is assign... -

ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Dogs
2kids4me replied to lonewolf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree with pixie girl. Humans and dogs learn through teaching what is expected, rewarding correct behavior and stopping "bad behavior" with a short jerk on a lead - I use a gentle leader and it has been fabulous for our dog (an adult rescue, dumped in a snowbank)... also in a low voice a "NO". Think of how we work with kids - we teach and reinforce good... -
ARCHIVED Surgical Medications?
2kids4me replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yes, if they used propofol -and he is allergic or sensitive to soy - then that could ahve made him nauseous. But keep in mind, nausea following anesthesia is not uncommon. Happens to pets too, my sister laughed the first time I told her that (not sure why) and asked if the animals spoke to me and told me they felt sick ...... ........you can tell... -
ARCHIVED Surgical Medications?
2kids4me replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have allergies to soy and/or eggs - mention this to your anesthesiologist. Mention you are celiac - the surgeon does the surgery - the anesthesiologist will be administering the drugs from a post by RKB ( an anesthesiologist) : -
