  1. Gobble Gobble wibble wobble. Thanksgiving for me is mouth watering memories of biscuits, pie, stuffing, etc. all homemade by Grandma. It's just not the same Gluten Free. Last year I ate with my boyfriend's Irish family. Not only does it SUCK watching everyone else eat the goodies, it REALLY is ANNOYING that there's ALWAYS some celiac ignorant person (in...
  2. People are amazed at my ability to enjoy bad dates. I enjoy the entertainment and ignore the date, or I laugh AT the date, or I creatively and cynically provoke the date to amuse myself. However blunt I am, I am always polite and always offer to go dutch. Some good ones: The guy with the 18" tattoo of Beavis on his back. And to think I thought he was...
  3. OH YEAH. Thought I'd been saving $$ by eating stuff tucked away in my cupboards and pushing back my biweekly trip to the health food store, BUT, instead, my bill doubled. $190. haha I do stock up, but WOW. Got favs like Mrs. Leeper's Beef Stroganoff box mix, Amy's potato leek soup, Barbara's Corn Flakes, my EnerG frozen pizza shells, and Glutino lemon wafer...
  4. My menu yesterday was nothing new or sinfully worth getting sick over: gluten-free pancakes with berries (no syrup), leftover pot roast and veggies, and Tropicana Lemonade. The lemonade has "natural flavors" so maybe that's it? But I drank some earlier in the week and was fine. Oh well. I cooked it all myself. hmmm I must admit sometimes I think I'm sensitive...
  5. I did the same thing recently! We can have Milky Way MIDNIGHT, but not milky way regular. I had never heard of milky way midnight, so I guess my brain just thought milky way was on the safe list. I OFTEN go out when I don't feel well, though. I feel distracting myself from my pain is the best way to get through it. Good luck and have fun!
  6. I'm really glad you posted, because I'm going to N.O. in Dec.! The scariest looking items would be fried, pasta, bleu cheese, soup, sauteed mushrooms, and blackened fish. I think the safest items would be grilled fish, chicken, or steak. That shrimp with grit cakes looked good, but I'm doubtful on the andouille sausage. You'd have to ask to make sure about...
  7. Got lilies and roses delivered at work for my bday, which was a surprise. Got some nice phone calls and nice gifts. BUT NO CAKE. A friend put a candle in a gluten-free donut, but it wasn't the same. I'll have to go to the store and buy a gluten-free cake mix. There are good ones out there, but it's not as fun to make it yourself and eat it yourself. Last...
  8. My eye doctor is HOT! He has amazing hazelish eyes...AND I've adored him ever since he told me that I'll never need glasses full time (I wear them to see in the dark or driving at night) because I only have night blindness. And YOU KNOW I love that cuz HOW MANY teachers do you know without glasses? I mean, going through all that college and the graduate...
  9. So the Milky Way made me sick all weekend, but I still managed to go 2 steppin. I haven't had the pleasure in ten years, so it probably wasn't pretty, but it was fun. I'm not big into country music, but I had friends who took me to country bars (cheap beer) back in the college days. AND I can appreciate cute cowboys. They always seem so chivalrous, too...
  10. As you know, I was so excited to get that gluten-free candy list that I had gone out and stockpiled those sweety sweets previously assumed to be not gluten-free, but lo and behold the list said they were fine! Well, I got glutened today. Milky Way. My fault. The list says Milky Way Midnight only. Sorry, I didn't know there was a milky way midnight. I...
  11. Since I am dating and date-able and date-licious, I do eat out a lot. I like Outback Steakhouse, like most others who go my way aka against the Grain, but I have also become adept at ordering sushi, Mexican food, and meat/potato or fish/rice dishes without getting glutened. I also sometimes eat B4 the date and just order a drink and ice cream while the...
  12. Thanks for the advice (yep blondes can spell) about politics, but I don't agree that the word "vote" is a political divider and I don't like to joke or talk about sex. Even perrty blondes like me think about thangs besides sex. Maybe we need a room for people 30 and under who want to discuss anything BUT Celiac Disease and sex. haha If the link didn't...
  13. Well, I won that Chipotle Restaurant Gift Card, but.... I read up on that place here and then checked out their website and I guess they make things on a line (I've never been there) and they recommend that people with wheat allergies do not eat there. I guess I'll give the card away as an XMAS gift to someone. Oh well. Just got invited to New Orleans...
  14. Thanks! My bro lives in the loop. I can't wait to try these on my next visit over there!
  15. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES TO ME. They understand wheat allergy and heed no crouton request, but then SERVE BREAD directly on top or beside the food!!!! SO NOW I say, no bread, rolls, anything, and they look at me like I'm being ridiculously superfluous, but who cares?

    ARCHIVED Chipotles

I hate to be a downer, but I just read the website (I won a gift card for that place), and it said there are major issues with cross contamination and they recommend celiacs don't eat their food.
  17. I'm glad you won't have to meet with this manager too much more, but it is always good to be ready to address future situations like this. We've all been there. I get good results when I write letters. I'd write a letter to the owner or manager or corporation. I would also tell YOUR manager that I don't feel comfortable going there and to choose somewhere...
  18. I made a GREAT oven-baked pancake with apples from the betty crocker cookbook. I just substituted the flour for rice and tapioca flour. it was FABULOUS. I also cook LOTS of pancakes (I thaw frozen berries and put them inside them when I cook them) and freeze them for later use. The berries make them so flavorful that I don't even need syrup! Also I love...
  19. My doctor had me do a gluten challenge - where I had to eat a large quantity of gluten on purpose. I noticed that my reactions differed with the TYPE of food I ate. Bread/pizza/cake/beer gives me severe back and leg pain. Other foods make me nauseous, bloated, and gassy. All of them give me D. Some give me brain fog and fatigue. I do not react at all...
  20. Prevent the cravings. Put plenty of Gluten Free foods all over so you can have quick access to it if you happen to get hungry. Put Bumble bars or bags of trail mix in your car. Put Airheads or peanuts or M&M's at your desk at work. Keep fruit and yogurt in the refrigerator at work and at home. The night before work, prepare a gluten free lunch to...
  21. Don't be surprised about the "little" amounts of gluten that can make us sick. Lots of us are even worried about gluten in shampoo and soap since that can get into your mouth when you rinse yourself. Yep, it's a sneaky world. Don't worry, you'll get it. When you know better, you do better!
  22. I'm happy with Desert Essence Organic Jojoba Shampoo "body boosting" formula since I have naturally baby fine hair. Smells nice too.
  23. I worked on the Rock the Vote campaign when I was in college. This was a cool link. Let me know if you make a video. Open Original Shared Link
  24. How cool. Maybe I'll show my 2nd graders at recess.
  25. I can see how kids would be happy to be able to eat the fries. Unfortunatley, McD's is a major part of American culture. So is fast food. I only get a 45 minute lunch. When my cousin in law from Spain came here (he used to think like other Europeans that Americans are fat and lazy)he said he couldn't believe how much americans work and he couldn't believe...
