Cute. Do you like to zip like I do? Dunno how old you are but who gets red anymore- isn't that totally 80s? (lol) Is it a retractable hardtop? Well, I have an SLK. Last car had cloth top- Wanted the retractable hard top more than the MB brand name. I call it my BOND GIRL CAR. Friend would see it and say, I thought you got another convertible? And I'd say...
  2. Hi The joint pain sounds terrible! I get back pain and shooting pain down my legs. (So does my father, the celiac who spawned me.) I still work out unless it's a MAJOR glutening---like if I haven't found the culprit and continue to gluten myself for several days or if I get bread traces on my food- bread is the worst for me. However, I do not work...
  3. My favorite are scallops, too, but the rolls (I've never had a reaction to the sea weed) sometimes have weird sauce in them and are too scary to eat. I grill scallops at home in butter and garlic or paprika and lemon. yum
  4. I think that so many people out there are NEEDY for attention and create drama and have odd requests and idiosyncracies, that serious detail-oriented issues like those that come with dealing with celiac are easily pushed into the DRAMA QUEEN category just because it's so easy for people to do that. When I was married 2 years ago I'd just eat before I went...
  5. THE SEASONED VEGGIES ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE. Too bad you didn't notice that beforehand
  6. Here in So Cal they do "creative" rolls with crunchy fried sprinkled things on top. Those are a NO. Sashimi and plain (not in the rolls) sushi should be fine. Albacore tuna laid on rice is GREAT! You've GOT to order STEAMED EDAMAME! (soybeans in the pod that you pop with your fingers and eat with your mouth out of the pod) YUM! They often serve...
  7. HI I know exactly where you're coming from.I was raised not to be picky, so this was EXTREMELY difficult for me. I had a friend and a boyfriend who LOVE getting and requesting "special" attention, so they would choose and order for me for the first few months. That worked well, but I still had to send things back. I think lots of times waitstaff assume...
  8. Hello Good to hear you are feeling better. It is hard for others to understand. They usually underestimate the difficulty of the diet and assume you just don't eat bread. I went through a fear of eating- I was glutened several days in a row and didn't know the culprit- My mom said, What do ya mean you haven't eaten all day? Just eat pasta! I would...
  9. Las Vegas. The bathrooms are great, but the toilets automatically flush on you if you stay on awhile!
  10. I get that too. Bad nausea to the point where I wish I could throw up and get it over with. I even have dry heaved before when it got really bad. Also, I get that thing where my hand just drops something I'm holding for no reason. It's scary to me. I just keep taking my vitamins and now I'm trying harder to incorporate more of the gluten-free breads...
  11. I can do dairy as long as I keep up with eating yogurt (I like Mountain High-gluten-free) at least once a week. If I go without dairy (body forgets how to handle it) and/or yogurt for a couple weeks, and then eat dairy, I'll get a reaction. There are also those tablets with acidophillus or whatever it's called to help you digest dairy.
  12. The breads with fruit juice are heavy and ok tasting, but I just don't have any desire to eat them. There is no way I can finish a whole loaf before it goes bad, so it's too expensive. I forgot the name of the kind that looks like a real loaf of white bread, but it's made with corn- it recommends that you toast it-it's ok, but it makes me bloated and gassy...
  13. I have blonde hair and long, thick, black eyelashes. And so does my dad, who's also celiac. spooky. One of my younger brothers also has thick, long lashes....hmmm.
  14. AUTUMN I had such bad shooting leg pains (still get it from cross contamination-i'm not a gluten-free pro yet) and I thought I had sciatica. So did my dad- for 20 years he had such bad back and leg pain. Docs tend to assume it's muscular/skeletal problems--they wanted my dad to have back surgery many times- good thing he was such a chicken! Going gluten...
  15. I started getting cavities years ago, when (in retrospect) I started celiac symptoms and I just had FIVE dental appointments for crowns and cavities and my dentist implied that I need to brush more...(WHAT? My old dentist said I brushed TOO MUCH!) and I asked him if he thought my celiac had anything to do with it and he said, What's that?
  16. Carla, were you on gluten for the Enterolab test? B WOW! My number was 40 and my test was negative after I'd been off gluten for 6 weeks and only put back on for 7 days before the test. Good to know your case.
  17. Ursula--I'm really glad you mentioned the SEVERE back pain!! THAT is why it took 20 years to diagnose my father. Because people and docs relate back pain to muscular/skeletal problems, not FOOD/gluten. My doc told me I didn't sit up straight. haha I'm sure if I'd been overweight he'd have told me to lose weight. On a tangent--I thought I was lactose intolerant...
  18. Thanks for the post. I have a dr. appt Monday (switched to a new dr.) and am afraid to imply I am self-diagnosing... My story. I am estranged from my father, and when I was carrying around Pepto in my purse in Las Vegas on a girls only trip, my mom asked me what on earth was wrong with me and I said, I don't know but I remember from when I was a little...
  19. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! THANK YOU! I had it and didn't react to it and thought I was just being hopeful. Now I know it IS ok! Yippee! I had a list that said only certain gins and vodkas. You made my day! Bren
  20. I'd love a recipe for that rice crust. blepke@hotmail.com
  21. I'm from the Midwest originally and Kinnikinnick seems to remind me of the name of a town there. Lots of native american named places around there. Lots of gluten-free companies are from Wisconsin, since there are lots of Vikings and Scandinavians there. Northern Europeans are the major celiac population from what I gather. Happy Syttende Mai!
  22. Hello, I use Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. I have good skin, I just use it sometimes because I'm fair, so I don't know if it's as good as liquid. I never use liquid. I put it on with a sponge. I also use gluten-free eyeshadow cream as blush. I love makeup- Sephora gives me chillbumps just walking in.
  23. My best friend mailed them (already baked) to me for my bday. I've been hooked ever since. I only make them about once a month. Yep, the ONLY thing nonceliacs love that's gluten-free.
  24. Thanks, Lisa!! I am feeling so upset today. I am glad to know someone else feels that way. My mom doesn't understand how extensive it all is. She said, just eat spaghetti! People think it's only bread that I can't eat. They tell me I'm lucky I'm thin. It's so hard to be mindful of everything all the time. I always prided myself on being independent and...
  25. Yeah, sometimes I feel food-phobic. Sometimes after I cook something I can't bring myself to eat it. I didn't eat red meat for 10 years, for my own reasons, and then after celiac, I decided to go back to it. But it's not easy since I don't have a taste for it. Grease grosses me out. I'm doing a terrible job of the glutenfree... Half the time I live on...
