ARCHIVED How To Tell An Itallian Guy "drop Half Your Culture"
MyMississippi replied to raen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I disagree--- I am NOT Italian --but I do LOVE pasta----- and even though Tinkyada is good--- IMHO it DOES NOT taste as good as the "real thing" ------- And I like the texture of wheat pasta much better than the texture of rice "pasta"---- But to each, his own----- -
ARCHIVED How To Tell An Itallian Guy "drop Half Your Culture"
MyMississippi replied to raen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You cannot change anyone's behavior but your own. You will NEVER convince your boyfriend to give up the foods he loves ----- He will give them up ONLY when or IF he wants to------ If I were you, I would give up trying to change his eating habits------- it's a loosing battle. Take it from someone who knows --- I've been trying to get my husband... -

ARCHIVED In A Serious Dilemma
MyMississippi replied to jasonD2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, Why not relieve yourself of all this needless worry by just going back to eating gluten, then get tested for Celiac disease, with the right blood work-- if that is positive, the doc will do an endoscopy (no big deal) and you will have your answer hopefully. If you ARE celiac---- then you can worry about it and decide what to do. If you... -
ARCHIVED In Desperation I Went To A Herbologist...
MyMississippi replied to TracyB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, of course ask to be tested based on your symptoms. A reasonable doctor should be willing to do this. You may want to arm yourself with information from another doctor like Dr. Peter Green to share with him. I'm always recommending that people read the book "Celiac Disease, a Hidden Epidemic" by Dr. Peter Green. Celiacs do not have to be thin... -

Someone said Bob's Red Mill has a pizza crust mix that tastes good. But I have not been able to find it. -
You can find it in "The New Ultimate Guide to Gluten Free Living " booklet published by the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. 2nd edition published 2008, page 43

If a person is diligent to WASH their hands EVERYTIME before they eat---- there won't be any lotion on their hands---- The Celiac Disease Center of Columbia University says that shampoos, toothpaste, dental products, make-up (except lipstick), soap, lotions are all SAFE.

Celiac disease is a VERY manageable disease------ FIrst you need to obtain all the information you can from reliable sources about Celiac. The book " Celiac Disease, a hidden epidemic" by Dr. Peter Green--- is a good place to start. He is the director of the Celiac Disease center at Columbia University. Your library probably has this book. THe...

My doctor gave me samples of Lunesta 3 mg----- I haven't taken any-----(don't like drugs) but tired of lying awake til the wee hours of the morning. I've NEVER had sleep problems in my life (until the past 2 years)---- You could have set a bomb off in my room and I wouldn't have woke up ! ! Had no trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep--- ...

Some people are just born with a tendency to be anxious and worried. And the stressors of life can overwhelm them at times----causing greater anxiety and worry------- "They say" anxiety can also be result of serotonin imbalance. (which can be linked to celiac disease, if I remember right, there are many serotonin receptors in the gut )

ARCHIVED Anti-anxiety Meds Anyone?
MyMississippi replied to givenupgluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tell your doctor that you don't feel the need for an anxiety med to take everyday and ask him if he would give you some Xanax or similar drug to CALM you when you have to fly or for other stressful events. But understand, that these drugs can cause some dependence, depending on how often you feel you need them to get thru the days. Or consider going... -
ARCHIVED On Gluten Free Diet... Nothing Changed!
MyMississippi replied to nutbutters's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could be that your gut is going to take a long time to heal---- I would change my diet to include only a few foods at a time and keep a food journal--- then you might be able to track the foods that bother you. Case in point------ it took me a long time to figure out that "healthy" ground up flax seeds added to my breads gave me a belly... -
ARCHIVED Here Is A Head Scratcher For You.....
MyMississippi replied to dolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the doctor CAN see damaged villi in the small intestine with the endoscope alone--------- the intestinal lining can be slick like tile in some patients and that would be entirely visible to the doctor looking thru the scope WITHOUT a biopsy--- The doctor knows what a normal intestinal lining looks like, and when there is damage he knows that is NOT... -
ARCHIVED What Should I Ask The Doctor? (about Endoscopy)
MyMississippi replied to MelissaJ80's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Judging from some of the problems on this forum---- the most important thing you should ask is----"You WILL be checking me for Celiac disease with a biopsy, won't you ???" And right before they knocked me out for the endo I would ask that same question again. The endo is painless, you will be given an IV to make you very drowsy---- Most people... -
ARCHIVED I Suck At This Diet =(
MyMississippi replied to UndercoverAlien's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most "packages" don't list gluten as an ingredient. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley, oats---- you cannot eat anything with those ingredients listed. Also gluten is hidden in some not so obvious places like flavorings, etc.
