I've been gluten-free for nearly five months now. Except for just the other day I had a DING! moment and realized I haven't ever actually been gluten-free. I'm a bartender and especially when it gets busy, there is beer flying all over the place. Spilling on my hands when I pour from the taps, and spraying on my hands when I open bottles...combine...

Yes, yes, yes!! A lot of people find relief from their emotional issues after going gluten-free, and I have no doubts about this. I have even noticed my moods have changed since going gluten-free 5 1/2 months ago. But learning how to do this is VERY stressful and frustrating and is an entire lifestyle change. I usually break down and lose it at least...

Thanks for the ideas, you guys! I have since started eating corn, tomatoes and soy, so that definately helps. I also may have accidentally on purpose eaten some cheese the other day.... I didn't feel great, but it certainly wasn't as traumatic as being glutened. I think I'm gonna head the grocery store and wander around for a bit - see if I can find...

I, too have asked the whey question. I believe CarlaB answered me by saying that she doesn't trust it since how do you really separate the two proteins that make milk... I use a protein powder called MediClear. You can find it on Naturallyempowered.com. It tastes very much like powdered cardboard, but you get used to it after a while.

ARCHIVED Diet Vs Testing
Corkdarrr replied to par18's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Before I started this diet I'd heard of it but wasn't terribly informed. I was having migraines pretty much every day and my kinesiologist suggested I cut out gluten and see if that helps since I'd once tested positive for a wheat sensitivity. And it definately helped. I think changing your diet for a month or two is the best way to go. The testing for... -
The boyfriend just bought a house this week so we're in the process of moving. And of course, the kitchen has been packed up. For the last six weeks, 99% of what I've eaten, I've cooked (I was also doing an elimination diet). Pretty much anything beyond a microwave is out right now. How awful. Either way...WHAT AM I GOING TO EAT now?!? Any suggestions...

ARCHIVED Can You Eat At Thai Or Chinese Reataurants At All?
Corkdarrr replied to imagine22's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was in love with Thai food before going gluten-free, but the diagnosis sealed the deal. Chinese makes me very nervous though because of the excessive use of soy sauce. -
I am an HRTM (Hospitality, Tourism, Restaurant Mgmt) major here in South Carolina. This summer I took a quantity food productions class that happened to be taught by a friend of mine, Chef Bill. It was also approximately one week into said class that I discovered the whole gluten thing. He was great - he knew very little about it, as did I at the...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease: Not Just A Gi Problem
Corkdarrr replied to Sophiekins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a very well-written post - and one that clearly many of us can identify with. Since going gluten-free, some of the most noticable symptoms of being glutened for me are neurological - especially brain fog and what can only be described as 'pure dumbness.' I get tongue-tied, clutzy, stumbly... I remember last time I was glutened my boyfriend and... -
ARCHIVED Delphi List Ok?
Corkdarrr replied to abigail's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd also like to add that I second what Deb said - I'd stay away from Kellog's like the plague! Gluten is gluten is gluten...one crumb is the same as a loaf of bread...gluten intolerant is just that - and it doesn't depend on 'your sensitivity.' -

ARCHIVED Tinkyada Pasta - Which Kind Is Best?
Corkdarrr replied to teebs in WV's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Haha...I never noticed there was a difference, either! I also buy based on the shape of the pasta. Glad I'm not the only one! -
Shawn, I'm really cold all the time, too. It seems to have gotten worse lately. I"m always bundled up. So no advice but WHERE did you find an adult-sized fleece onesie?!!? Does it have the feet on it like the ones for little kids that make it fun to slide across the kitchen floor? Seriously. I can't think of anything that would be more comfortable...

ARCHIVED List Anywhere?
Corkdarrr replied to pinktulip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Look for the Delphi list - they just put a new one out in September. Someone on here might jump in with a link, but otherwise just google Delphi and gluten and you should find it. It's like 30+ pages long, but has a LOT of info with brands, contact info, and confirmations. Good luck! Courtney -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
Corkdarrr replied to bonnieboo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Same as everyone else - my bloodwork was negative because my doctor told me it was okay that I had already gone gluten-free (sigh) and I didn't have the patience or resources to get a "real" biopsy. I've read about so much inconsistency with biopsies anyways, that it didnt' really matter. All I knew is that I felt better not eating gluten, and I did Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Amy's
Corkdarrr replied to bonnieboo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've always been okay wiht the mac and cheese and the rice crust pizza. But I had a burrito or enchilada or something one other time and it made me really sick. -
ARCHIVED When It Comes To Cheese
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, Sweetfudge... Unfortunately Enterolab gave me a free casein test (jerks) which told me I was casein intolerant (jerks jerks JERKS!!). I'm still in denial. I always knew I had a problem with dairy, but it only seemed to bother me when I ate a LOT in one day. Apparently it's my body warring against itself, not just lactose. I've since gone on... -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Corkdarrr replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
I got the same little tiny box and when I tried to futz with the settings, the video stopped! It didn't matter to me as long as I got to hear what she was saying, though. -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Corkdarrr replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just watched CNN's follow-up segment and it was short but great. She expanded more on the everyday struggles faced by Celiacs and it sounds like they are going to do continuing coverage. Mentioning again that a crumb is the same as a loaf of bread and that EVERYthing needs to be thoroughly checked - including medications, vitamins, lipsticks, etc... I... -
ARCHIVED When It Comes To Cheese
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks Patti. Of course, my boyfriend just called to tell us our real estate agent was confused and the repairs would NOT be done on the house by closing next Monday. Which has my mind a-whirl.... Sigh. -
So after the most horrendous shift at work the other day, I went up the street to my favorite bar to sit in peace for a little while. The reason it became my favorite bar was because they have the most amazing cheese sticks on the menu...they make them totally by hand. YUM. After becoming a cheese-oriented customer, I realized that I liked the place itself...

ARCHIVED New Here- I Have Some Questions
Corkdarrr replied to Ex3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have no idea what those results mean, either. But if I were you I'd find a new ped. ASAP if he won't even explain test results to you....kinda defeats the purpose of testing to begin with, doesn't it? Someone will jump in shortly, I'm sure. We're all still abuzz from the story that was on CNN a half hour ago! -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Corkdarrr replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
I do think the picture of the third world child was dramatically unnecessary...I wish they'd focused more on all the different symptoms and how they manifest themselves. But I'm glad they talked about misdiagnosis and how slack this country's physicians are. Skipping class today was totally worth it to hear about Celiacs on a major news network! -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Corkdarrr replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
I thought they did a pretty good job - I'm happy the CNN news anchor has Celiac! (Not happy that she has it, but happy that someone in the media spotlight came forward and talked about their own experiences!)
