I just knew you'd be okay.

When I had my brain MRI for all the neuro symptoms,
and it was negative, I said to Jack tearfully "well, they looked at my brain, but they didn't find anything in there!!!".

which prompted laughter, of course. :D

Please, have a daiquiri for me, too! No, 2!!!

SO happy for you, hon! xxoo

Thanks guys!

Last night Me and Bob, from the Red Mill, are getting things together to make brownies.  I'm gonna add walnuts and the walnuts I have are whole nuts.  So I hollar out to hubs in the garage, "how do I make chopped walnuts",  he pops his head up and starts laughing at me and says "grab a clever and have at it".  Now I'm thinking, did I really not know that?  In my defense, I thought some kind of kitchen appliance would chop nuts.

I'm thinking of starting a community in Love2Travel's back yard for the "Cooking Challenged".  I know there are some of you out there who have never chopped nuts.  Anyone with me?

It sounds like you have been carried well!  I hope you will soon feel well strong, and recovered from gluten.

I am celebrating by making my first post for days.  My computer didn't let me post for at least 3 days.  I also had trouble reading the site.

This works better as a visual, but here goes:

Little boy, dressed head to toe in a cowboy outfit goes into an ice cream shop and stares at the woman behind the counter.

She says: "well, aren't you adorable!"

Kid pulls his little toy guns out of the holster, points them at her  and scowls,  "No, I'm not! I'm a cowboy and I'm tough, so don't make me mad!!"

She plays along, saying: "Okay, cowboy, what'll it be?"

Kid curls his lip , points the guns again at her and says gruffly: "Gimme a sundae and make it quick!"

She can't help but smile at his tough guy routine, but asks; "would you like vanilla or chocolate ice cream ?"

Kid, becoming irritated snarls: "Chocolate and make it quick!"

She: "pineapple or hot fudge?"

Kid: "Hot fudge and make it snappy, yer makin me mad, lady"

She asks: "and do want marshmallow or whipped cream."

Kid, face turning red and waving the guns in her face yells "yer really pressing it....whipped cream! hurry it up!!"

She can't help herself: : "and do want your nuts crushed?"

and the Kid says>>>>>>>>>

Guess what the last line was????

Kid says:

Ohhhhhh...that's a good one Irish.  I was picturing Dennis The Menace as the kid and Zena, Warrior Princess as the Server.  She could do a number with those nuts.

No, SKI thinks the last line is ....OUCH! LOL

(but.,,,, that's not it)

IrishHeart Veteran

it's.......

Lady: "You want your nuts crushed?"

Kid: "You want your boobies blown off?"

Probably crossed the line there,  but it is Colleen's celebratory thread and she likes to laugh, so I'm leaving it there.

for a few minutes......until we probably need to  "hide it".

GottaSki Mentor

and then the kid says .... "ouch" :P

I assume that you already know that genetic testing for celiac disease cannot be used to confirm a celiac diagnosis. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. It can be used to rule out celiac disease with a high degree of confidence, however, in the case where the genetic testing is negative for the genes. Until and unless you are actually diagnosed with celiac disease I would not raise this as an issue with family. However, if you are diagnosed with celiac disease through blood antibody testing and/or endoscopy with positive biopsy I would suggest you encourage first degree relatives to also purse testing because there is a significant chance (somewhere betwee 10% and almost 50%, depending on which studies you reference) that they will also have or will develop active celiac disease. Often, there are symptoms are absent or very minor until damage to the small bowel lining or other body systems becomes significant so be prepared that they may blow you off. We call this "silent celiac disease".

If you were off gluten for two months that would have been long enough to invalidate the celiac blood antibody testing. Many people make the same mistake. They experiment with the gluten free diet before seeking formal testing. Once you remove gluten from the diet the antibodies stop being produced and those that are already in circulation begin to be removed and often drop below detectable levels. To pursue valid testing for celiac disease you would need to resume gluten consumption equivalent to the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread daily for at least two weeks, preferably longer. These are the most recent guidelines for the "gluten challenge". Without formal testing there is no way to distinguish between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity since their symptoms overlap. However, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small bowel lining, not true of gluten sensitivity. There is no test available for gluten sensitivity so celiac disease must first be ruled out. By the way, elevated liver enzymes was what led to my celiac diagnosis almost 25 years ago.

Then it does not seem to me that a gluten-related disorder is at the heart of your problems, unless that is, you have refractory celiac disease. But you did not answer my question about how long you had been eating gluten free before you had the blood antibody test for celiac disease done.
