Gluten Free Cat Food

Is there any canned cat food that is gluten-free? My kids and I like to keep some on hand to feed the neighbor's cat and it makes me nervous at the thought of cleaning out the bowl afterward.

I think there are.  Look for grain free - that is "in" thing in pet food.  Or give to tuna.  My cat loves a little piece of plain meat for a treat.

how  kind of you  to  feed  another's  cat..... not  many  like  you...  Yes,  if you  go to  any  of the  major  pet food  stores  you will find  gluten free  cat food... Our  kitty likes  Wellness  brand  &  wervuva ( sp?) brand.... but there  are many others....

Thanks  again  for  feeding  kitties! Our   animals  all are gluten-free....

What a great idea to use plain tuna! Thanks for the other brand suggestions too. :)

My kids don't have any furry pets, so when the neighbor's cat comes by, they like to spoil it for awhile before it goes home. :)

I know some might consider it wasteful, but if your concern is your bowl you could just use a paper bowl. We always used paper bowls for my husband's cat because canned cat food smells like vomit (imo) and I didn't want that being brought back in the house dried on and needing to be cleaned up. YUCK!

That is a great idea!

I have special bowls for  the dog and cats. I don't let them eat out of our dishes. We buy heavy duty crocks. They won't blow away and are reusable. But I don't think Gluten is good for dogs and cats anyway! There are alot of brands out there Gluten free or grain free.

It was very easy to find gluten free cat food! They had a lot of it at the pet store.

So...it looks like a stray tomcat is adopting us and I went to the Petco store today and picked up a bag of Nature's Recipe dry cat food and some Wellness brand cat treats.

I also got some canned cat food that is 9 Lives brand and it has just stuff like meat, meat by products, guar gum, vitamins, etc. No grains.

So if we adopt this kitty, he will be on a gluten free diet too!

My Kitty has recurrent urinary tract infections so we have switched her to the Royal Canin canned urinary diet (by vet RX only) and it is gluten free.  Hooray!

I read or heard somewhere that tuna is not really good for cats. I recall that it was a vet that was saying/writing this, but I don't recall the reason. He/she suggested that instead of feeding them the tuna, it was better to just give them some of the water that the tuna is packed in.

I still give my kitties tuna, but I try to limit the amounts.

I ended up buying my kitty Rachel Ray Nutrifish catfood since it's cheaper than the really fancy brands of cat food. It has grains in it, but no gluten ones and clearly says on the front of the bag that it has no wheat. Yay!

@DebJ14, You said "husband has low platelets, bruises easily and gets bloody noses just from Fish Oil  He suggested he take Black Cumin Seed Oil for inflammation.  He discovered that by taking the Black Seed oil, he can eat carbs and not go into A Fib, since it does such a good job of reducing inflammation."   I don't think black seed oil is lowering inflammation.  It's lowering blood glucose levels. Black cumin seed lowers blood glucose levels.  There's a connection between high blood glucose levels and Afib.    Has your husband been checked for diabetes?   Must Read: Associations of high-normal blood pressure and impaired fasting glucose with atrial fibrillation https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36750354/

Healthy Omega Three fats.  Olive oil or flaxseed oil, oily fish, fatty cuts of meat.   Our bodies run much better on burning fats as fuel.  Diets based on carbohydrates require an increased amount of thiamine to process the carbs into fuel for the body.  Unfortunately, thiamine mononitrate is used to enrich rice.  Thiamine mononitrate is relatively unusable in the body.  So a high carb diet can further decrease thiamine stores in the body.  Insufficient thiamine in the body causes the body to burn body fat and muscle for fuel, so weight loss and muscle wasting occurs.  Those extra carbohydrates can lead to Candida (often confused with mold toxicity) and SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth).   Losing weight quickly is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.  Muscle wasting is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.  I lost sixty pounds in a month.   Having difficulty putting weight on and keeping it on is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.   The AIP diet works because it eliminates all grains and grasses, rice, quinoa, all the carbs.  Without the carbs, the Candida and SIBO get starved and die off.  Easy way to change your microbiome is to change what you feed it.  With the rowdy neighbors gone, the intestine can heal and absorb more nutrients.   Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is beneficial.  Talk to your doctor and nutritionist.  Benfotiamine is a form of thiamine that promotes intestinal healing.  The eight B vitamins are water soluble, so if you don't need them, they can be gotten rid of easily.   Night shades are excluded on the AIP diet.  Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant are not allowed on the AIP diet.  They contain alkaloids that promote "a leaky gut".  Benfotiamine can help here. Sweet potatoes are avoided because they contain thiaminases, chemicals that break thiamine so that the body cannot use it.   The AIP diet has helped me.

The reaction one gets when they get glutened varies a lot from person to person.  This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

A gluten ingestion can last for many months.  Many years ago there was a celiac conference in Fl.  Everyone there got contaminated with some having difficulty 6 months to recover.  It will hit your Lympatic system and spread  through the body and effect your nevous system as well. Most times when I get glutened it is from a prescription med that wasn't checked close enough.  the Pharmacuticals change vendors all the time.
