I'm a firm believer in coconut oil for...pretty much everything. Can you tolerate coconut?

^ Check out #42. Coconut oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties, and you get so many uses out of it. It costs about $10.00 a jar, but you can find it anywhere (Stop & Shop, etc) and there are so many uses for it. You can use it as a moisturizer, hand lotion, etc etc. No need to worry about gluten, soy, or any other allergens. One jar will last for a LONG time. I swear it's helped me with acne too.

Yep, coconut oil is good. If you have any warehouse club memberships, Sam's and Costco both carry it in a large container.

Besides coconut oil, I love Tea Tree Oil which has both anti-fungal and antibiotic properties.  Even covering with petroleum jelly would help heal a cut.  But I would go with the coconut oil.  Safe to eat, so it's safe on your skin.

Aquaphor Ointement is my go for salve.  Recommended by my Doctors over Neosporin for healing the skin.  It works!

No, there is soy in it, I have a bad reaction to it with in the hour, if not a few minutes. Advil, look at there ingredients. Soy is not listed in anywhere, but if you call they will let you know its in every pill they make. I notice drug companies dont have to label any form of the 8 main allergies in the products. Its forced on food manufactures, Im not sure why drug companies dont have to show if there is gluten or soy or corn in there products. I was getting panic attacks after taking chewable Bayer asprin, put me in the hospital. I told the manufacture and all they felt the need for is to send me all there coupons. Funny thing is, it all contains soy.

There are websites for people with soy "issues".  Maybe they have some ideas.too?

John Burlingame Explorer

Most of all medicines have some form of soy in it, I'm finding out. I have to have my ibuprofen made in a compounding shop and pay about 1$ a pill because I cant find one commercially made ibuprofen without soy in it. All my pain meds have soy. My antibiotics has soy, It was helping me heal and making me sick in the process. I'm a mess right now, what should have taken a few days on the meds, took three weeks to heal, in the process killed of the good bacteria in my gut, I'm trying to use Pro-biotic, but all the pills have soy, so getting it from cultured yogurt has been fun, but the lactose makes me sick, and looking to eat fermented products, looks like I will have to make all that by scratch because every frekin manufacture uses soy.

any ideas?

yea, does little to help when I have gluten issues and lactose issues as well.

John Burlingame Explorer

Anyone know some good soy sites Im all for it. But having gluten issues puts a strain on it.

John Burlingame Explorer

Best thing ever happen to me is when I went through being Gluten free, most of my crappy symptoms went away, when I stopped soy , then the rest went away. this site rocks. Not all of you have what I have, I wish there was a site for people like me, but this is about as close as I can get. I pop in here when Im at my last straw and you guys are a great help, I will sure use the coconut oil. :D

Yes, love the stuff, no idea you could use that

Because something like Neosporin is unlikely to contain lactose or gluten , maybe the soy free bloggers/sites might have good suggestions.

oh god, I need hand lotion, thank you so much

Well called Neopsorin, that was an interesting call, the wax they use, they would not tell me if it contained anything let alone soy. they  could not tell what ingredients the wax was made from due to giving out the secrets, yea who needs to care if there is something in there that could be allergic to..(Natural Flavor) crap. It like pulling teeth with these guys. He said the wax was the only thing that was made from natural stuff, (you know like Soy or corn or other stuff, thinking in my mind), but could not tell what it was made from. uggg

This place is great, I get a correct answer with in a day from here, this post on gut issues, wish yall would expand to a soy post, oh well. do what I can get.

I can't have soy or lactose either, so I understand your pain. Advil doesn't seem to bother me, but it is so rare that I need to take it now. I hardly get headaches anymore (I think it's because of my strict diet) and when I do take it I try to just take 2 and not take it multiple times a day. Are you taking Advil frequently?

beth01 Enthusiast

I have soy issues and haven't had any issues with any of the above stated products. Maybe you are having an issue with another ingredient?

StephanieL Enthusiast

Perhaps you need to look at other possibilities. Wax from soy would be more expensive. They don't add things that cost more when they don't have to. It's not good business practice. As others have said there are many here with soy issues (including anaphylactic reactions to it) and there hasn't been an issue. Perhaps it's something else.

I talked directly with the manufacture on Advil, they said all the pills they manufacture has a form of soy in them. I was narrowing the things that bother me. Soy out of my life has made me feel so normal again. but anything with a little trace of any form of soy hits me like a brick

Gluten makes my gut hurt, ever since I pulled that out of my system, I no longer have painfull bowl pain before I got to go. That one thing I had most of my life. thought it was one of my intestines out of wack. After pulling gluten out, Lactose now makes me sick unless its been cooked. Cant drink it strait, makes me sick. Soy puts me in a bad place, strips something out of my cells because I dont have an allergic reaction that Im aware of, my entire body looses the ability to function correctly. Fog,sort term memory loss and feeling lost. just want to crawl into a hole and die.

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
