Hello, This is my first time using a forum and hope I get it to work. Question...Is there a CURE for Celiac disease? There is a doctor advertising on this site. His name is Dr. Skip Snow. He says, in his site that he can and does cure Celiac disease, as well as other diseases. It will cost me a lot of money, that I don't have, in order to try him. Has anyone had any experience with him? Any success or failure to report? Thanks, Bob

No, there is no cure for Celiac Disease.

I wouldn't trust this information until I saw published articles with concrete studies.

Where on this forum did you see the claims made by this doctor?

I was wondering the same thing--I don't remember ever seeing the name or a post.

There is no cure for Celiac.

Buyer Beware!

Celiac is a genetic disorder. There is no cure for a genetic disorder. Someday there may be a valid and safe intervention but at this time the gluten free diet is the one and only way to go. Claire

I have not seen anything from that Dr.? on this site.

There are snake oil salesmen born every minute. There is no cure and unless there was undisputed proof on the news etc., everywhere, I do not believe it.Unfortunately, there are tons of con men and quacks out there.

No cure, and I'd be hard-pressed to trust anyone who said they had one...

Maybe it was in one of the GOOGLE ad's? I could see that happen, Celiac.com has only very limited contorl over the Google ad's.

NOT to blast chiropractors, but they often advertise locally that they can cure celiac here. They insist that if the spine is in proper alignment, all disease processes will diminish and eventually leave . . . Hmmmm. . . .

I agree with Carriefaith - need empirical evidence, or published articles in the New England Journal of Medicine or JAMA. But I'm from Missouri so you have to show me. My brother and his wife tried to get me on Reliv with claims of people who were "cured" by the nutritional supplement. I figured it out by looking at the ingredients - one was L-glutamine which really heals the intestine. I take that ($4 as opposed to $70)

and it has helped me get through accidental glutenings immensly. My mother is one to believe everything she reads and spends money she really doesn't have on supplements and literature. And almost all of the claims she reads is anecdotal. No empirical evidence. Also, a big tip off here is - MONEY!!! does this Dr offer a money back guarantee? Also, where did he get his diploma and in what field? Anyone can call themselves Dr on the internet. And anyone can legally be a Dr, but have the degree in any field, just so long has the person has passed his/her PhD. So, sorry to dash your hopes, but while celiac cannot be cured at this time, it is very livable and best of all, no prescriptions! Just a major radical change in diet, and your life is just about as normal as everyone else's!

Just a thought here but if there really was a cure, which I am sure isn't true, it would be broadcasted by the Celiac Sprue Assoc or the wonderful hospitals that are involved in celiac research (which I can't remember who they are but they are in Maryland, Chicago, Calif and NYC).

Until they (see above) declare a cure exists I wouldn't start chasing rainbows anytime soon.

As we all know, there is no cure. The treatment is to go gluten-free, after being gluten-free for a while, your tests will come back negative, but if you go back to gluten foods, guess what, your tests will once again be positive.

A cure means it is gone, won't come back, so no, there is no cure for Celiac Disease, but it can be taken care of through diet to produce a "false" positive test result.

debmidge Rising Star

Good point Timber4est. That would be a sneaky way for a quack to declare a celiac as healed and move onto the next victim. Meanwhile the first celiac would be in for trouble.

Timber4est Rookie

I hate to say it, but there are many illnesses that through diet changes and supplements that DO produce a false negative test through blood or biopsy. There are many "quacks" (yes I call many doctors, herbal supplment /potion pusher that knows these things quacks) who know what to use and or how to change a persons diet to produce a false negative test. Then, they proudly proclaim "CURED, can I get a testimonial?"

When it comes to being sick, people are fighters and hang onto every glimmer of hope they can for a "cure" to be rid of what makes them sick. In the case of being Celiac, we all know if we go gluten free for a time and go back in for tests, they will come back negative. These quacks know it as well and prey upon those looking for that cure. The problem is, once they quit the "curative treatment", they will soon enough become sick all over and produce positive tests again.

My brother has a really bad skin problem, to the point that he is covered with discolored blotches. He has had this all his life, starting from birth. I remember wathching him being covered with lotions, potions, being force fed supplements and one dermatologist after another would do their best to treat the problem. After he grew up, got married, his dear sweet wife found an ad in the paper where a doctor stated he had a cure for this type of skin condition. So my brother borrowed money against their new home, sold his car, borrowed money from the family and started treatments. Keep in mind this was in the 80's.

For six months he went in for his 3x weekly sessions where the doctor would slather him with lotions and potions and then use his "scientific tool" and would massage his skin. Each session was $125, which was a great deal in the 80's. Within six months, sure enough my brothers skin looked so good. It didn't look like a "normal" persons skin, but he wasn't scared to wear a pair or shorts or go water skiing with us. The doctor asked him to give his testimonial, allow him to use his before and after images and sign a release. He didn't think much of it, because after all, this doctor had cured him just as he had said he would.

Slowly, inch by inch, leg by leg, arm by arm, we watched his skin revert back to what it was prior to treatments. In a matter of months all that money he had spent turned into a great big waste of time, money and energy. It was clear he had not been cured, only treated. As soon as he stopped being treated, his skin reverted back to its original state.

As my brother had signed a firm release form, he was unable to get his testimonal or images back from the quack. He used them everywhere. We found these pamphlets all over town with his images and in magazines where this doctor advertised his "cure". He tried to get the doctor to stop using his testimonial and images, but he refused as the release form had been signed.

We hired an attorney who hired an investigator to go through this doctors "treatments". He would record every session and take samples of the lotions and potions -in the end discovered that they were all available on the open market, some right from the grocery store, others special order from companies who made bases for cosmetic companies. The special "scientific tool" turned out to be an ultrasound device just like a physical therapist uses.

In the end, it turned out to be a class action lawsuit against this doctor, everyone got their money back and enough to cover the legal and court fees and enough for them to purchase their own ultrasound devices so they could treat themselves at home, which is what my brother has done ever since. The quack lost his ability to own a business in our state and moved to another state where he continues to this day to practice his quackery

Was he cured or treated? Well, the ad read "I will cure you", but the reality was he didn't cure a darned thing, he only treated his customers (I'd call them patients, but I don't consider him a doctor no matter what the degree paper says on his wall). What he did was to TREAT his customers and as soon as he stopped TREATING his customers, they reverted right back to their original state, some more slowly than others. Never did he CURE anyone.

Celiac, there is no cure, but treatments are amazing! You don't have to go to some expensive "CURE YOU QUACK", you simply need to find the support of a great group (like we have here), a doctor who is willing to learn or already knows about Celiac and follow his care, go to the library and read every good book and use a special "scientific tool" in your kitchen known as gluten-free foods. Soon enough you will have TREATED yourself right out of some of your problems. I say "some" as there are those like me, who went un treated for so long that I have developed other diseases along the way and will never be back to a fully "normal" state. I can however live a vibrant, active life again so long as I stick to my "scientific tool" known as gluten-free foods.

I think, after reading this, that you areso traumatized by not being able yo understand what your medical advisors have been  what medical conditions are that you would like to find a group of people who also feel traumatized who would agree with you and also support you. You are on a crusade much as the way the US Cabinet  official, the Health Director of our nation is in trying to change what he considers outdated and incorrect health advisories. He does not have the education, background or experience to be in the position he occupies and is not making beneficial decisions. That man suffered a terrible trauma early in his life when his father was assonated. We see now how he developed and worked himself into a powerful position.  Unless you are willing to take some advice or  are willing to use a few of the known methods of starting on a path to better health then not many of us on this Celiac Forum will be able to join you in a continuing series of complaints about medical advisors.    I am almost 90 years old. I am strictly gluten free. I use 2 herbs to help me stay as clear minded as possible. You are not wrong in complaining about medical practitioners. You might be more effective with a clearer mind, less anger and a more comfortable life if you would just try some of the suggestions offered by our fellow celiac volunteers.

Thus has got to STOP , medical bit believing us! I literally went through 31 years thinking it was just a food allergy as its downplayed by medical if THEY weren't the ones who diagnosed us! Im positive for HLA-DQ2 which is first celiac patient per Iran and Turkey. Here in the States especially in Cali its why do you feel that way? Why do you think your celiac? Your not eating gluten so its something else.Medical caused me depression. I thought I was safe with my former pcp for 25 years considering i thought everything I went through and going through will be available when I get fired again for health. Health not write-ups my health always come back when you're better.Im not and being tossed away at no fault to my own other than shitty genes.I was denied disability because person said he didn't know how to classify me! I said Im celiac, i have ibs, hernia, sciatica, high blood pressure, in constant pain have skin and eye issues and menopause intensified everything. With that my celiac nightmare began to reprove my disregarded disease to a bunch of clowns who think they are my careteam when they said I didn't have...I feel Im still breathing so I can fight this so no body else has to deal with this nightmare. Starting over with " new care team" and waisting more time on why I think I am when diagnosed in 1994 before food eliminated from my diet. P.s everything i went through I did write to medical board, so pretty sure I will continue to have a hard time.

@Scatterbrain, Thiamine Vitamin B1 and amino acid Taurine work together.  Our bodies can make Taurine from meats consumed.  Our bodies cannot make Thiamine and must consume thiamine from food.  Meat is the best source of B vitamins like Thiamine.   Vegetarians may not make sufficient taurine since they don't eat meat sources of taurine.  Seaweed is the best vegetarian source of taurine. Vegetarians may not consume sufficient Thiamine since few veggies are good sources.  Whole grains, legumes, and nuts and seeds contain thiamine.  Many of these sources can be hard to digest and absorb for people with Celiac disease.   You may find taking the forms of thiamine called Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and a B Complex will give the benefits you're looking for better than taurine alone.

@Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.
