Doctor won’t test me because I don’t have blood in stool

Crescentmoon Newbie

Hi everyone, I’m brand new so sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. Anyways my title says it all and I feel so frustrated I feel like crying. I finally stopped ignoring my symptoms after a year and scheduled an appointment with my doctor. I told her everything that was happening and she automatically dismissed me and made me feel like s$#&. I told her all of the symptoms I have which are: diarrhea,
vomiting, fatigue, Heartburn, bloating, Abdominal pain, burning throat, headaches and even more. She basically ignored all of this and said since I don’t have blood in my stool and since I don’t know if it runs in the family (i don’t know my fathers side of the family so I can’t say for sure) I probably don’t have celiac. I literally can’t even eat a piece of bread without throwing it back up. I’m tired of feeling sick all of the time and being nauseous all day at work.  Is there anything else I can say to try to convince her or should I just say screw it and find a new doctor? Anyone else have a similar experience because this sounds off to me? Thanks in advance!

Get a new doc. If my doc was that ignorant and stubborn I would switch in a minute.

And welcome to the forum, Crescentmoon!

Ignorance comes in many forms, including the doctor form,  Agreeing with Trents find a new doc.  Try a search for celiac and doctor and your city or state name,

Be aware that you need to keep eating a small amount of gluten until all testing is done.  Otherwise the testing is inaccurate.

Many doctors are unaware of proper testing for celiac disease.

There is a home test you can order for under $100, but you need to be eating gluten on a daily basis for ~12 weeks before blood tests can be done:

It’s definitely time for a new doctor no matter what happens, as yours clearly doesn’t have your best interest—your health—in mind!

My doctor told me the same thing after telling her my biological father was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease which I suspect was a misdiagnosis based on my own allergies and intolerance for wheat products. I'm still waiting on answers myself and am eagerly waiting a Celiac screening.

I hope you find answers and a new doctor that takes you serious.

Good grief, so sad to see there are still so many clueless doctors out there.  Keep eating gluten, and like others have said,  I'd suggest immediately ordering the imaware celiac test suggested by Scott as it's cheap and easy.  I recently ordered that test myself.  I got the test and sent it back and then got results within about 10 days.  After you get your test results, you may have a better idea of what is going on.  Sure sounds like either celiac or non-celiac gluten sensitivity.  Your described symptoms are pretty common in both cases, I had almost all of them.

So many of us here have had to take matters into our own hands in many cases because doctors just don't know enough, even in 2021.  So get your own information where you can and go from there.

Hi! I'm glad you are here. I agree with the others that you are going to need a new doctor. No one person can know everything. And, with as many diseases and ailments as there are out there, even the best doctors don't know everything.

Pour some Halloween-blood on your poo, take a pic and show her. "Look dawktor, I haz some blaaaaawd in ma stooool".
You have to lower yourself to her level in order for her to understand you.

Or you could find a real doctor instead of someone who paid a few thousand bucks for a diploma on the deep web.

Definitely find a new doctor who will take you seriously.

You can also order your own bloodwork and labs for celiac panels, nutrient levels, etc  (at least in the US) through companies like Ulta Lab Tests.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
