Ahhh Ok Well that explains it...I wanted to show DingoGirl (can't remember her name) the pictures of the doggy door I put in. Just in case she was interested in it. The picture is too big to put on the avatar. ah well. These are my kids at the Baltimore Zoo.

I see what you are saying Jennifer. Maybe you can Im or email the picture to her?

I didn't think about that..good idea!

I was just sitting outside and the theme song to Mr Roger's Neighborhood stuck in my mind. UGGGGG!!!

OMG....that's not a real place, is it? wasn't that a term coined by some political pundit? Is this Calgary??? Do fill me in.....help me not to be so dumb.....

:lol::lol::lol:

Yes, a political pundit did coin the phrase and it was meant as an insult but some of us up here find it hilarious, I'm one of them. I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada which is above North Dakota. I would like to know what you are finding out about the connections between Celiac, mind and emotions. :)

Ohhh and like to add that NOW I am only on 2.5 mgs of Lexapro... and Xanax if needed...BUT, I haven't taken any of the Xanax lately... at times I've thought about it, expecially late at night and in pain... but what I do is get my frozen box of spinach and sit and read all the wonderful posts here.

:lol::lol::lol:

Cecile, I am so glad that you have been able to reduce your medications and who would have thunk spinach could be so versatile? I can just see you telling your doctor that you have substituted spinach for Xanax.

This thread is so helpful. I was fine with the ice cream, in fact I woke up with a happy feeling in my body which is rare for me. I'm not going to do it again for a little bit because I don't think the sugar is good for my arthritis but it was soooo nice to feel like I could eat icecream. Thanks Rachel. :) Then this afternoon I tried a bowl of Nature's Path Puffed Rice with a little almond butter and I felt nauseaus and I was sneezing and then I slept for 4 hours. <_<

My sweetie was saying he is grateful for Rachelville because he feels so lost at knowing what to do to help me and he can see that I am getting better and that this place is helping me to.

Oh Susan:

Did you give me wrong directions? Did I get lost someplace on the way to Rachelville? I might run out of gas before I make it to the next town.:blink::unsure::o

I would like to add that in my opinion, what is more difficult then healing one's own body is healing one's own broken heart. I would like to commend Susan on her strength and her most wonderful humor thoughout her trials and tribulations. :)

So true Celia...more wise words from you today. :)

Susan is doing a much better job at "healing" than I did. My heart broke 3 years ago and its been a really slow healing process. I think I might be almost over it now. My friends from Rachelville are helping me with this. Actually Andrea said she will do anything for me to not contact my ex. Thats why she gave me her number....dont call the ex...if you feel the urge call me!! I'm thinking she really wants me to move on.

Andrea's the best!

The only science you'll get from me is.....lemme think......the latin names of plants. And maybe, identification of flora and trees in the wilderness.

ROFLMAO!!

Yeah Susan...I can see how that info. will come in real handy for me next time I'm dealing with Auxigro or mass amounts of histamine raging through my body.

Karen..your Rhiannon is a sweetie, how old is she? I am keeping up but barely. for a sunday has been more activity than usual. not everyone has been out trimming berry bushes and whatever like Rachel. I save my outdoor garden watering for cooler evening. See you all tomorrow!! evie

Rachel, are you going to the Celiac conference in Stanford in September? I will be there, we're recruiting now, you know, more people from the cult farm...... ;););)

I saw a thread about this. I never checked it out though. I need info. Sounds like it would be fun if some of the cult farm residents meet there!! Cool....I wanna go. :D

I drank soooo much water today...I dont think I could possibly be dehydrated. I just got in and showered and feeling relaxed in the a/c 'd house. Well you probably wouldnt be so relaxed here....my a/c is set at 83 degrees. Just the way I like it. :D

I was thinking I got really dark working out there today...was pretty happy about it too. I lost my "tan" in the shower though....turned out it was dirt. <_< At least I got alot accomplished but man...this week I'm definately calling a gardener. My arms look like I went through a war.

Wow I never equated bloody scratched up arms with having "a great weekend". I'll have to remember that Susan. Tommorrow when they ask me what the heck happened to my arms I'll just proudly hold out my arms and say "I had a blast yesterday...cant you tell!"

 Im lost... but I am running low on spoons cuase Im a freaking stupid idiot so thats prbly why... I'll just rejoin you in a few pages....

:lol::lol::lol:

I have no freakin idea why I'm laughing at this cuz I have no idea what it means.

I must admit...I never looked at Chelse's link about spoons...so all this time I'm totally lost when the "spoon thing" comes up.

Somebody help me understand so next time I can "get" the joke. Or is it a joke?? I'm soooo lost.

Rcahel -- Keep up the gardening. I just spent most of the afternoon pulling weeks and steaking up my sunflowers. A few of them were leaning over, and since they are almost 7' tall I don't want them to fall over.

OMG...7' tall sunflowers! I've never seen such a thing. :o

My sweetie was saying he is grateful for Rachelville because he feels so lost at knowing what to do to help me and he can see that I am getting better and that this place is helping me to.

Awww....what a sweet thing for him to say. I'm glad you're feeling better. YAY for ICE CREAM!!!!! Good idea about not going overboard. I'd be doing the same...except....well, I've gotten a bit out of hand already. I dont know if I can be stopped at this point.

I'm soooo happy you didnt get sick though...I was worried I had become a bad influence! :P

this might have already been discussed but there's about 208 too many pages for me to look through and probably hundreds of conversations as well..

rachel (or anybody else with similar concerns), I've seen you mention you thought you were reacting to different supplements you were taking... did all of these supplements have an identifiable ingredient (ie. dairy, a corn ingredient, soy, etc.)?

I have a number of supplements I've been taking on and off for months and I've never been too confident in them though I can't say that I'm necessarily reacting to any of them either... for the past few months, all the supplements and vitamins I've taken have been top of the line companies (pure, thorne, klaire labs, metagenics)... all of the supplements I'm taking currently specifically say no corn, gluten, casein, soy, yeast, etc.... has anyone reacted to a supplement that was similarly stated to be devoid of such allergens, and if so, do you know why you reacted? or should I just take these supplements without concern since there should be nothing in them I could have a problem with...

I think you're lost because I took over for a few posts and we got totally off scientific and dietary issues

BTW....what is the story with "R". Did I miss that post?? Was I "absent" the day everyone learned of Robert???

How come I dont know whats going on??

I recall stories of a singer you dated....I dont think that was Robert though?? Ummm...actually I'm probably the only here who's so oblivious...but I didnt know who the singer was either. Should I know this?? Julie knew who he was and she is younger than me.

I must admit...I never looked at Chelse's link about spoons...so all this time I'm totally lost when the "spoon thing" comes up.

Here's what I understood from the link, a young woman with lupus was trying to explain to a friend of her's what it was like to be chronically ill, they were sitting in a restaurant and she gathered together a number of spoons and used them to illustrate how much energy she had and how each task took a "spoon" to complete. This then became the "spoon theory". I'm sure others can add to this and correct me if I am in a fog. :)

Rachel, you are a fabulous influence in my life as is this whole Rachelville Community. :)

Hi Clark Bent,

I have taken supplements from the same companies you list here, metagenics, pure, etc., and while I don't think I was reacting to any hidden ingredients (i.e. dairy, gluten) they became problematic fro me. I took a trial run without them and noticed I actually felt better without them. In this thread (100s of pages back) for example, we had a discussion about how MSG in its hidden forms are found in a lot of supplements, or that they can be derived from corn but and yet the label regulations allow them to label it 'corn free'.

Some of the others might have additional thoughts/comments to add to this.

:) Hi everyone. I can't believe how much I missed in a day. Geez, a new man in Susan's life, Andrea lost then found, brown-outs, Vincent ran out of spoons (hope you are ok), Ryan-I forgot what I wanted to ask you but hey congrats on the sunflowers--one of my favorites :) You must leave some flower heads dry for the birdies! I think there was an international spiff here too while I was gone  Nikki-uk-we need your services in Rachelville!! Don't you have a relative with celiac? Welcome new citizens :) Susan, Susan, Susan, we LOVE your humor and don't ever think otherwise. Cissie-I feel like I know you --are you related to me? :) Our hubbies certainly are of one mind.

On a serious note--I am worried about the whole eye thing too. Had a visit Fri to the surgeon, I thought the lenses were clouding over or a detached retina, but he said the retina looked ok, but my vision is getting bad again after being pretty good right after the surgery. I broke out in hives from the drops to dilate, and he had me use the prednisone drops 4 times Fri night and keep up 2 times a day and wants me to come back next Fri. The whole thing is upsetting me so much. I knew I couldn't see as well again and when the tech had me read the chart I couldn't believe it. I asked her if I could read the lines before and she said yes, and I couldn't help it, I just started tearing up and crying. I didn't bluther, but I was shocked. Enough whining-----(sorry) Cissy, I have been to so many drs. over this, I don't know who to turn to next. The dr. I am seeing is a surgeon-he is #6 I think (lost count).

I was searching in the 'related illness' topics for a thread that was started about a month or so ago regarding a type of hives and it was recommended by someone to try cortislim-to reduce cortisol levels to help with the hives-some itch and some are painful-well, I think Julie's post clinched it for me-thank you , Julie, last week I bought some cortislim and I took one Saturday and wow, I am not joking, within a hour and a half I felt so calm, no itching, no food craving, totally headache free. I definitely will continue this, not only for the adrenal calming and lessening of histamine symptoms, but for the related food/sugar craving (which is totally gone!!) I am forever thankful to whoever posted that advice on the thread and I hope they read this. I also hope that this information helps you all in some way, because I think the adrenal function IS the key to the histamine levels and it makes sense that we have so many thyroid problems as well since the adrenal function is so important to the thyroid function. I am hoping the adrenal healing will help my thyroid and in turn help with everything else, including the eyes. Thank you all for the wonderful help you keep bringing me, and Rachel --thank you for the relentless searching and your sharing on here.

Rhiannon is 7 - she will be 8 in September. Her face is painted because we had the kids to the circus that day. The black strap is her immobilizer she has to wear because of her broken collarbone. It's healing nicely except for the fact that she was playing tag today with Daniel and they collided and Rhiannon went down - ON THE BAD SHOULDER!!!! So she's a bit sore tonight..... Hopefully not too much of a setback.

Hope all is well......

Welcome Sally! Everyone say hi, we have a new member (I recruited her from another thread)....where you are is Rachelville, it's a gluten-free paradise Cult Farm, there's a University, it's close to the ocean and a lake, somehow, I think.....all the ice cream you can eat, protective geese and dingos to guard us and our crops....I think....so much more.....everything's magical and perfect and even time exists in its own separate vortex.....

And we are lunatics!!!

Now must continue reading...premature posting, again.....

Ahhh Ok Well that explains it...I wanted to show DingoGirl (can't remember her name) the pictures of the doggy door I put in. Just in case she was interested in it. The picture is too big to put on the avatar. ah well. These are my kids at the Baltimore Zoo.

Oh, how thoughtful of you Jeny! But the thing is, I actually DO live in Pleasantville, a gated community of staid and quiet composure (they're from Stepford, I'm pretty sure).....any construction, seriously, must be approved by the committee, and it ain't R-ville here....you see, the door to the back yard is a sliding GLASS door, so no construction possible. Or financially feasible. I have heard about those things you can put in sliding glass doors for dogs, however, Tika is kind of psycho, and I think that would scare her, she, um, can't walk on TILE FLOORS any more and wierd things like that....demented Celiac dog.....

But thank you anyway!!

now continuing to read again.....

Charlie, I am also one of the people who stopped taking any supplements as a result of reading this thread and the information Rachel posted about MSG. I have felt better for not taking them, the sensation I had was a burning running in a diagonal from right to left across my abdomen, similar to being glutened. The supplements were all gluten free, dairy free....expensive, quality I can't say. I definitelydo not trust gelcaps.

I was talking with a friend, her husband has Crone's and she worked in Health Food Stores for over twenty years, she recommends liquid vitamins when we are ill. She said the other ones are just to hard for our bodies, when they are inflamed, to digest. I'm going to look into it because I am concerned that I am not getting all the nutrients I need.

I've been wondering how many people go through gluten withdrawal, I'm particularly thinking of night sweats because mine are gone. I had been relating them to menopause and now I am not so sure. I was reading another thread tonight about someone coming off a drug and it sounded like they were experiencing withdrawal and I was wondering if the night sweats were part of gluten withdrawal and why if you simply stopped poisoning yourself you would go through withdrawal. Does anyone have any ideas?

But yes, there was a singer, I thought we might have our retreats at his property in Big Sur, except that would entail talking to him, which I prefer not to do.....

we will now leave this topic.

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.
