Hi my fellow rachelville friends. What a day I had, it pretty much sucked from beginning to now. Looks like all of you were having a good time.

Now is Dave related to Rachel?

Loved the picture, miss Cecile, made me laugh so hard when I got home I almost peed my pants!

Yhea Susan I am not going to Stanford and am really bummed about it! :(

Still don't know what to do about putting my name in google and having it go to my main page here? HELP :blink::blink:

Floridian, I am a dumb bird. It took me all this time to hit F5 to see what everyone is talking about. I want to know how you got a photo of me? But, I do think a bow would be nice in my short hairdo and I am so partial to red.

Thank you Tavi... I going to get some peach lip stick to go with my gray complextion.

Ahhh my friend... the google thing... I didn't like that either... that's why I took out my name in my signature... am off to try to fix the family names I put on too... I think we forget that the WHOLE world can see this...

So if it's gonna do this then I have to come up with a new name, and I need help, I don't have that great of an imagination :D:D:D

What do you mean HA? Last week I came home from getting my short hair cut with it jelled and spiked to the nines. I thought it was funky and fun, but my family did not like it much - he he. And my hair is certainly gray. See you took a photo of me on the day my hair was spiked. You should have seen this skinny, gray haired bird (he he) with spiked hair and age 64 at that. What a fun day that was.

I'm sooooo confused.

I need to get more sleep I think.

I guess so  Maybe I'm the one who's confused....what did you say to me at work today? You said I was in trouble again on the board....haha....about what?

Now is Dave related to Rachel?

 where did you get that idea?

Oh by the way...Hi Tavi!

I don't really worry about using family member names.

How are we going to address each other if we don't use names.

Should we go back to user names if they are different than the persons name?

Hi Dave,

How's it going tonight?

Hey, can you fill me in on the 'google thing'? I thought I read all the posts but missed that one. Also do you know why some are concerned about having family names in their posts? Sure too bad about the UK incident but sooo glad it was stopped before it got started. I hear flying will be a bit differnet for awhile with being on orange alert here and red in UK. Evening all, hope you have a good one!!! :):) got some more gardening done today, put grass clippings around young plants to help keep in the rain we have been getting, that will be over one of these days. evie

Hi evie! I'm not sure about the google thing exactly. Maybe some of the others in the 'ville can fill you in.

I bet your garden is loving the rain :)

Yes, after having a dry spring and early summer we have gooten nearly 2" rain over 3 days lately. that is wonderful for gardens, yards but especially for farm crops. We are in an area where farmers have corn, soybeans and hay crops. they were looking stressed for awhile from heat and lack of moisture.

You cetainly look nice in your picture, I am hoping our daughter who is coming friday/ her husband can help me put up a pic of myself that she sent me online. I just do not know how to get it moved around!! Thank you for your answer.

Probably if I had a 12 yr. old youngster here they would know how, kids catch on sooo fast, better than some older people. Good evenin g to all... :):) evie

Hi Karen, glad you are having a better night :)

evie, thank you. I hope you can get some help getting your picture up. As much as I love the bat girl, would love to see you.

Mango, I feel the same way you do about the microwave issue. You were right on with your post, rinne had posted information and some of us were discussing the very thing.

Hi Julie:

Always nice to see you!

The google thing is that if you put Tavi in google my main page opens up and gives my personal information. If we write about family members with celiac it also directs one to the board. For me it;s becasue my name is so very different that it wouldn't be hard for family members to read about my utmost personal even silly thoughts, or anyone could get where I live and how to reach me, even a picture. It just kind of bothers me, any ideas about what to do. It also means anybody can have access to this, say I wrote something I didn;t want my boss to know, or something about my family I wiuld obly share here, well in reality anyone can read it. Make sense? I am signing off now I am getting groggy. Nighty-night all until next time

I understand Tavi, especially since you have a unique name. Maybe you can talk to the board admin about changing your board name??

Nighty night :)

I think it is amazing that we are scattered round the planet and and the same time are all here in Rachelville. :) We didn't even have a T.V. until I was seven.

Karen, I am glad you are feeling a little better.

Chelsea, I think what she did stinks and is not at all in the spirit of scouting. :(

My acupuncterist is going away for a week, yikes, I have been going twice a week since January and it will seem odd not to go. I am cheering myself up by using the week to see if I notice some difference.

Andrea, my carob cake was interesting, the texture and moisture were good but the combination of carob and maple syrup was a little odd, might have been the coconut milk too. I think it might be better as more of a spice cake, are there any spices that you think go particularly well with carob?

I've been buying my seeds and nuts from Prana Organics for a number of years because the products have been GFCO-certified. I just got a new order delivered of their flax and sunflower seeds, and it turns out that they are no longer GFCO-certified. Instead, it just has a generic "Gluten Free" symbol on the package. I reached out to them to ask what protocols/standards/testing they have in place. The person that wrote back said that they are now certifying their gluten free status in-house, but that she couldn't answer my questions related to standards because the person with that info was on vacation. Not very impressed, especially since it still says on their website that they are GFCO-certified. Buyer beware!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
