You never know. If someone was really interested in you as a person and not taking advantage of you being down. It's possible. They'd just get the sickness part first. :)

Yeah...I was only kidding. (sort of)

I've had nice people come into my life since I've been sick...the sickness actually didnt seem to phase them too much.

Its probably mostly me....I dont feel comfortable getting involved with anyone when I'm in a fog half the time....and really just not myself.....not the person I *want* to be. I'm way too restricted right now. :(

The guy I dated a couple years ago had already picked out where he wanted us to be married....and I was eating fast food and totally out of my mind. I was running red lights, eating donuts, making irrational decisions....totally irritable and having no patience.

At least I had enough brain left to know it wasnt any time to go and get married!! ;)

I seriously dont wanna get back in a situation like that though...it caused more stress on me and I'm just not capable of giving another person the kind of attention they would deserve in a relationship. I felt alot of guilt trying to be in relationships while I've been sick.

Its better to be on my own....Even Anna agreed that now is not a good time for something like that.

I got so stressed out with that guy that I totally bolted while he was in the shower one day. I just freaked out...who knows...maybe I'd eaten some really toxic stuff...or even worse...had some alcohol the night before. :o

Al I know is my mind was all messed up....I didnt want to discuss anything with him and I packed all my stuff into my car....left his key on the counter and took off. Thats how I broke up with him...while he was in the shower.

I wouldnt normally handle things in this manner but my body just cant cope with normal stresses right now. :(

I'm just lucky that he's an understanding guy and that we're still close friends. :)

He sound like a wonderful person. :)

I think it's best to focus on getting better right now too. You never know though, things happen when you're not looking. :)

Then I guess I'll be pretty much a "dinosaur" by the time I get married!! :o

Nah, I was just comparing myself to Carla, who was barely past puberty at 21!

Dear Rachel, Carla and Andrea,

Okay, for lent I am going to make the effort not to say Christ all the time. It would be a lot easier if things did not suck. My parents usually are what cause me to say it. Surprise, huh? :P Right now, I do not need to worry about marriage and children, I have to care for my parents!

They are like two overgrown toddlers half of the time! Actually, most of the toddlers I babysat in the past did more for themselves than my parents do! If I do find my soul mate, he will not meet my parents. If he does, he won't want to marry into this group of lunatics. I am still waiting on something saying I was switched at the hospital or something. Maybe I will get lucky and find a nice Celiac Witch one day.

I agree with Carla it is great we can be mature enough to respect others beliefs, even if they are not the same. This is a problem that I have with everyone with this. My parents are currently going to a Methodist church and have been for a while. The thing is, I would not blend in there at all. :(

The preacher does not even believe in spirits! How can you believe in God (who is the Great Spirit) and angels and not believe in them? Angels and God are spirits. I have had numerous experiences with discarnate human beings and animals. I know it is sort of something you have to experience before you believe it. However, I know it exists.

Carla will be interested to know I have a friend who practices Voodoo and Santeria up in New York. It is actually widely based on Catholicism. Her religion is very different from mine in a number of ways. They are allowed animal sacrifices and stuff. Wiccans cannot do that. Harming any living thing is not allowed. (I have to admit I have killed ants recently, does that count?)

I do not like doing it, but cannot let them get all over the house, either. Do you think God gets angry when we do that? Bugs are something I cannot tolerate! Anyway, getting back to my friend's religion, they also believe in their ancestors, as well as instead of believing the spirits can act on their own accord, feel they are manipulated by the living. Zombies really do exist.

A Voodoo Bakor (high preist) is allowed to punish the guilty if he so chooses. He takes a concoction of fish venom, herbs, etc. which acts as a neurotoxin and does a ritual on the wrongfully acting individual. They are unable to act for themselves. It actually can slowdown their heart rate to the point a doctor pronounces them dead and they are buried.

That was probably way more than you wanted to know, but it is just to give you an idea of the differences between our faith and other magical ones.

Now, onto shingles! My grandmother had them about two years ago. It is caused by the virus that causes chicken pox. It lays dormant in the system for many years, and can reactivate at anytime. Normally, an infection or illness of some sort (such as a common cold) forces it to become active.

She was in a lot of pain. The rash was excruciating. It not only hurt on the outside, but on the inside. She became very depressed and tired. Weight loss and memory problems tend to accompany it as well. This is probably what began the Alzheimer's. :(

Later that same year, she began coughing up blood, and was rushed to the hospital. It was an ulcer. She always had one, from all of the nasty NSAIDs she took for her arthritis over the years. Her idiot doctor did not even do any tests. Then this happened.

Grandmom had an ulcer the size of an orange between her duodenum and her stomach! :o I has sensed something was bad wrong when she told me how she was feeling on the phone. We used to talk everday. The moron new doctor released her only two days after this occurred.

She went home, and the following day, began massively bleeding from both ends! My brother was there, and he said it was horrific. :( Thank God he was there, because my brother had to convince my grandfather to call an ambulance. I don't know if he freezes up or what. I think it might bring back memories from WWII that he does not want to remember.

Anyway, she lost so much blood, that they almost lost her. She was thrown into Alzheimer's. She still knows who I am now. I do not know for how long. This is the most emotionally excruciating thing.

Watching someone you love go through this. I wish God had taken her then instead of her having be scared all of the time and confused.

She was a good Christian woman. She did not deserve this. Alzheimer's is the most terrible disease. It is like having amnesia off and on all the time. Grandmom and I have always been close. I am so afraid to even go see her, for fear of crying. However, I need to see her before she cannot remember me anymore.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Catholics used to cover for services but it's largely been lost.

I never knew that!

That's an issue that has come nearly full circle in Judaism. Used to be, Jewish women had to cover their heads at all times, not just at services. For a long time they just wore scarves over their heads, but then a trend started where Orthodox women would cut their hair very short and wear WIGS to fulfill this requirement (and I have no idea where this requirement came from, either--seems to me G-d provided us with a natural headcovering, as in hair?). The wigs they use have gotten more and more high-tech and stylish, until now the wigs are so amazing, they look more attractive than "real" hair. Which makes me think that somehow, something's been lost in the translation....

Anyway, the trend in Reform Jewish congregations is for women to wear Yarmulkes (the little skullcap that men have worn for centuries--I always thought it was to cover the bald spot! :P ) to the services (not outside the temple, though, as far as I know). Having grown up without this tradition, it seems very strange to me, but if you go into our synagogue, more than half the women wear them!

Seems to me there are so many similarities in tradition between Judaism and Christianity, especially Catholicism. (Sigh) You'd think the congregations would link together a bit more....

Wow Laura, Have a wonderful time on Wednesday night! I can't wait to hear all about it. :D

Yes, as a Catholic, we females had to have our heads covered whenever we went to Church. I used to have a beautiful lace mantilla that I would wear in the spring and summer. :)

Carla, I get a kick out of you saying that you're a convert and really into the teachings of the Church. My husband converted in the early 90's, after we were married for a long time--it was his decision alone, which surprised me and made me happy at the same time. He had always gone to my Church, and as our sons got older, he wanted the family to all be of the same religion. At the time, he was already active in the Church! He wanted to make it official.

I was "born" Catholic, and grew up in the Church, but when my husband was in the RCIA, I would learn things that I was never taught! I found it very interesting, as opposed to how we were taught back in the 60's.

By the way, I was married at 19

It is nice to speak of my religion in a place where I feel safe. I also love to hear about other's beliefs :) I would never feel that my way of thinking is the only way--I agree also with a lot of the things Rachel said.

Actually if you read the passage with greek translation the covering is something other than the hair. You can do a search on it if you want to learn more. I have a site bookmarked that I could pm you as well. I forget it offhand.

I've heard mantilla's are still worn in some churches.

You were real young. But it's not necessarily physical age that matters, more so maturity age.

I wouldn't venture to speak of what we've been talking about outside this thread. We have come to respect each other here and that makes a big difference.

It's always nice to see you Patti. I've missed "talking" to you. :)

NGG,

I hope you can visit your grandma soon. Its ok to cry....being with your grandma and shedding some tears might actually make you feel better about everything. Just being close to her will bring you some peace....whether you cry or not isnt the important thing....just being together is what matters most. ;)

Have a great night Laura!

I dont remember anyone covering their heads for church.

The only women I can recall having their heads covered when I was in school and church was the nuns.

For me...if I go to church I have to "uncover" my head...as in NO HATS. I wouldnt ever wear a hat in church....that would seem sort of wrong or disrespectful to me.

It is nice to speak of my religion in a place where I feel safe. I also love to hear about other's beliefs :) I would never feel that my way of thinking is the only way

Me too....I respect everyones different faiths and beliefs. As far as religion goes I've never felt like one religion is more "correct" than another.

The only problem I've ever had with religion is when someone tries to force their own beliefs on others...or believes that their way of thinking is the RIGHT way...and looks down on others for not sharing the same beliefs.

Everyone has a right to choose their religion....someone else's relationship with God has nothing to do with me...its not for me to judge.

I feel "safe" to talk about these things amongst friends who have respect for one another. :)

I wouldnt even venture into a topic like this anywhere else...not even to read. There is always way too much conflict...and yeah....there are always those who have such strong faith (not a bad thing in itself) that they feel the need to quarrel about who is right or wrong.

To me religion should not be like politics. :(

When I get to work everyday....first thing I do is go into my co-workers office and steal his ordering gun. He's the guy who's now doing my old job.

I'm always late and dont have time to search around for ordering guns.....its just easier to steal his.

Plus it bugs him. :P

This morning as I'm headed for his office...he says "You dont wanna go in there Rachel....you really dont." :o

I said "Yeah...yeah"

So I go in there and he had built a "fortress" around the gun...with boxes of BOUNCE!!! :o

:lol::lol:

I just held my breath, knocked down the bounce and stole the gun. :P

I was 22 (just shy of 23)...which for my "generation" is SUPER early.

Only thing is that I'll have to try to cover up my "tracks" on my arms from the IVs...so that I don't look like a druggie.

21 was SUPER early for my generation, too. It seems late 20's to early 30's was much more common. We didn't know any married couples our age for years.

I know about the druggie look. Every time I have blood taken it leaves marks. Yesterday's didn't bruise like it normally does, but looks like the tracks you describe ... I just can't figure out why ... it was only one needle.

Have a great time at the event!!

This is my thinking anyway...I'm sure many would disagree.

Catholic school rubbed off on you way more than you thought.

We are all on different parts of a path. The bible states something to the effect that God winks at our ignorance but it doesn't give us reason to continue to be ignorant so we don't learn and grow.

Even with me practicing headcovering now, it's not a salvational issue.....unless you've studied it out, been convicted about it being right and then rejected it. I have read on the headcovering forum I belong to that Catholics used to cover for services but it's largely been lost.

This is true. Some Catholics still do this, especially the ones who attend Latin Mass.

As far as ignorance, true ignorance is fine and the resulting act is no sinful because you didn't know better.... but feigned or willful ignorance does not count.

Seems to me there are so many similarities in tradition between Judaism and Christianity, especially Catholicism. (Sigh) You'd think the congregations would link together a bit more....

This is because our faith comes from yours. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were Jewish. The Old Testament is MUCH longer than the new, and we still read from it.

In the Catholic Church much of our Eucharist (Communion) comes from the Passover meal. I've always wanted to go to a Seder to learn more about it.

The primary difference is that we believe Jesus was the Savior. The Jews at the time of Jesus thought the Savior would save them from the troubles of this world, when in reality he's opened up Heaven to us.

NGG, sorry, but I'd worry about you if you were doing animal sacrifices ;) ... and I see no harm in killing insects, especially if the insect is a TICK!

ROFLMAO!!

What I don't understand about people who are argumentative about their faith. If we are supposed to be the light of Christ in the world and win people over, then what's the point in arguing?

When I was more active in youth work (I've been on leave, but they will need me back by fall), I used to teach Catholic apologetics (defending faith through history, Scripture, and reason). I used to stress with the college students that I worked with apologetics is a DEFENSE, not an offence.

It's for when you attract people to wanting to know more because of your interior peace and joy.

So, while I am convinced about my faith, I also respect others faith and their walk with God.

Patti, I converted in April 1990. Hubby was a cradle Catholic and never even asked me to join ... we were married in Dec. 1984.

Rachel, you are too young to remember the head coverings. It was due to the changes in Vatican II that it ended.

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Rachel,

I definitely am going to make a point to see her. The reason I don't want to cry is for her sake.

She gets upset very easily. My grandfather does not handle that type of stuff well, either. At least she is one of the nicer Alzheimer's patients. My best friend's grandfather is mean! :(

That was so funny about your work! The guy you work with seems a little too attached to that gun. This is so hilarious! You should screw with him! It would be hecka hilarious! :P

Dear Fiddle-Faddle,

That is so neat about Judaism! I have always been interested in it. My father says he is not an anti-Semite, but that is not true. He is one of those who assumes anyone with a noticable nose is a Jew. He had a bad business deal with four Jews once, and he has never gotten over it.

He will not admit it, either. I told him "Did it ever occur to you that our lives suck because you descriminate against God's Chosen People?"

I am very attracted to Jewish guys. I don't know why, I just am. Zach Braff is probably my favorite. He is sweet and funny! He celebrated his Bar Mitzvah and becoming a man by informing his father he wanted to eat cheeseburgers! So much for kosher! Another interesting fact: Jonathan Silverman's grandfather Morris is a world reknowned Rabbi.

I always have felt the need to observe Jewish holidays or at least recognize them in my own way. There are Qabalists, but many people fear them like they do us. It is a little to mystical for them. Judaism is the beginning of Christianity, and the beginning of so much more. Personally, I think I am a bit Jewish.

My father had a fit one Christmas because I wanted to make Hanukkah Star cookies. That was so silly! To become Jewish here, you have to pay the synogogue $10,000! :o I think I am too poor to be Jewish. :( That is neat about the women wearing yarmulkes now. The covering of the head began in biblical times because anyone who saw the face of God would die. At least, if I recall correctly.

Dear Andrea,

I was not aware of Catholics having to wear head coverings. The churches around here do not do that as far as I know. We have primarily Catholics here. I expected there to be more Jews, since our town primarily consists of Germans. That was not the case! Jews settled our town, but now, the Temple is all the way in Newburgh.

Dear Carla,

I could never do Voodoo for that reason! Wicca is purely a nature religion. Those darn ants! I don't know what we will do about them! They start taking over, hogging the remote...something has to fix this! Dad usually sprays chlordane, and says it is safe. I told him, it is a chemical, and it is not safe! There is no anedote for chlordane poisoning, either. We have a dog that licks everything! That is a bad idea, I think.

dlp252 Apprentice

No shock or dismay from me over killing, ur, I mean relocating the ants.

Re faith...I was raised in a catholic setting, but never really understood or knew God and never remember hearing much about Jesus...it was a long string of events that brought me to where I am now. I attend a non-denominational church who teach straight from the Bible. I've never been the kind who tries to force my opinions or beliefs on other those...oh, um, okay, except maybe a boyfriend or too (not religion, just other beliefs  )

Laura - your evening sounds really fun!!!!

Rachel - too funny about the bounce blockade!!:lol:

Okay, so I've been having some pain in my lower abdomen...very low and to the left...what the heck is down there, lol. Is that still intestines down there?

Why is it, when ants are around, we start to become paranoid? Now I feel like something is crawling on me all the time! :o I hate that! It drives me crazy. Those things take over everything!

These black ones do not bite usually, though. Those little brownish red ants are mean! They do!

I always liked the Catholic view because they talk about the love of God. They talk about Jesus and his forgiveness. The Southern Baptist churches most of my family used to attend were all Hellfire and brimstone. That is bad. A lot of people try to scare their children into being good. Much of the time, being so strict actually does the reverse.

Sincerely,

We worked on phenolics(sp?) today to prepare me for foods. So in the next week or two I get to work on FOODS!!!

Yeah Donna! I did phenolics before I did the foods. Well, phenolics are in foods, most of them, so they are really hard to avoid.

I do have quite the collection of Grateful Dead stuff. B)

Do you have bootlegs? I finally got rid of mine, unless they are still lurking in the basement and I couldn't part with them  . I had some classics!

Maybe I could get Talitha in. I just don't know. She has a lot of intolerances for only being 7. If I don't get anything done this year (with the horse money) then we won't be able to do anything for a couple years. We aren't sick now (aside from intolerances which aren't real bad), but Talitha did fit one of those categories you posted almost completely for the mercury toxicity. I just wonder if she (and Seth) have mercury/metal overload or whether Talitha has candida even. Through enterolab she tested great for malabsorption though.

I didn't have any malabsorption through Enterolab, but PLENTY of food intolerances. I don't think Enterolab tests are very good for testing for leaky gut syndrome.

Good luck selling the horses. If you can't sell them on eBay, maybe you could give them to a business that will sell them for you. You'll get a percentage of the profits and won't have to just give them away.

Claire,

Let us know what happened at the vet. I hope your Ouiser wasnt poisoned. :(

You know, I couldn't bear to go. In the end, I didn't want to know. It was just too painful :( .

Yes, I still have my left ovary...and after I posted I looked up a couple of things one of which said something about ovary...thankfully it's not bad pain and it's not constant...just happened a couple of times today.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
